1 Vocabulary Wild Words Before Reading: As you come across words in bold in The Wild Life of Christian the Lion, ask yourself if you know them or if you can figure them out from context. Then check their meanings here. 1. betray: We knew we couldn t betray him by putting him in a zoo, John recalled later. (p. 17) Meaning: be disloyal to someone or something 2. captivity: Animals raised in captivity don t have the skills to survive in the wild.
