Luke 14: A.M.
Have you ever noticed how many things happened in Jesus life around a mealtime? First Miracle- Wedding Feast in Cana Feeding of the 5, baskets full Bread of Life Sermon Dinnertime with Jesus in the home of Mary and Martha and Lazarus, when He remarked that Mary s attentions were superior to Martha s intentions.
Have you ever noticed how many things happened in Jesus life around a mealtime? When Mary anointed Jesus feet The Passover/ Lord s Supper, the night in which Jesus was betrayed When Jesus ate broiled fish with His Disciples on the Seashore
Have you ever noticed how many things happened in Jesus life around a mealtime? Heaven: The vast Marriage Feast, often called the Supper of the Lamb where we will enjoy God s company for evermore.
Jesus Heals on Sabbath Here in Luke 14:1-24 we find Jesus once again using the dinner table as a training table for all who would follow after Him. At the beginning of this meal, Jesus purposely chooses to heal a man suffering from Edema, (AKA dropsy).
Sabbath Insanity Did you know you couldn t cook on the Sabbath (all meals prepared on Friday) Could keep warm, but NOT FURTHER COOK.

Knowing the Were Gunning for Him JESUS ASKED the very question the Pharisees were thinking; "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath, or not?" (14:3). And they remained silent.

Four scenes - Four Related Lessons (V.1-6) Rebuking Compassionless Legalism (V. 7-11) Encouraging Genuine Modesty (V ) Promoting Unselfish Generosity (V ) Demanding Prioritized Allegiance [to God]
Scene One Lk. 14:1-6 Basic Logic - Humane Truth He says; "Which one of you shall have a son or an ox fall into a well, and will not immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?" And again they had no reply
Message in Lk. 14:1-6 A TRULY HOLY GOD would never forbid such a great EXPRESSION OF LOVE AND REDEMPTION, and anyone who WOULD FORBID SUCH AN ACT - was not speaking for GOD!
Scene Two Lk.14:7-11 He {began} speaking a parable to the invited guests When you are invited, go and recline at the last place, so that when the one who has invited you comes, he may say to you, Friend, move up higher ; then you will have honor in the sight of all who are at the table with you. 11) For everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled, and he who humbles himself shall be exalted.
Message in Lk. 14:7-11 Lk. 14:7-11 is clearly a declaration in defense of modesty. Modesty is living reverently and respectfully of God and of God s Will. Today far too many people live lives of self-promotion.
Scene Three Lk. 14:12-14 "When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return, and repayment come to you "But when you give a reception, invite {the} poor, {the} crippled, {the} lame, {the} blind, and you will be blessed, since they do not have {the means} to repay you; for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."
God s Commentary Luke 6:31-35 And just as you want people to treat you, treat them in the same way... Phil. 2:3-4 Regard one another as more important than [your]self. James 2:1-4 Don't show favoritism have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?
Message in Lk.14:12-14 God s people are to be: Considerate of others Unselfish in their dealings Generous in all their acts?
Scene Four Lk.14:15-24 First in Luke 14:15 15 And when one of those who were reclining {at the table} with Him heard this, he said to Him, Blessed is everyone who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God! Good Answer, but needs application
Luke 14:16-24 "A certain man was giving a big dinner, and he invited a large number; and at the dinner hour He sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, Come; for everything is ready now. (Notice NOW is the needed time.) 18 - But they all alike began to make excuses
Luke 14:16-24 Then the head of the household became angry and said to his slave, 'Go out at once (NOW) into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and crippled and blind and lame Compel {them} to come in, that my house may be filled For I tell you, none of those men who were [originally] invited shall taste of my dinner.
Message in Lk.14:15-24 After 2+ years of pristine deportment and divine instruction, proving His Messiahship, many of His kinsmen still made excuses NOT to believe. Those who were [originally] invited (The Unconverted Jews) Shall NOT taste of my dinner. = Shall NOT inherit eternal life through Christ.
Message in Lk.14:15-24 In the broader sense, ONLY THOSE WHO ACCEPT JESUS AS LORD AND OBEY HIS WILL CAN BE SAVED. (Jew or Greek, Male or Female, Bond or Free - Gal. 3:28).
Excuses, Excuses Sadly, many in the world TODAY continue to make the most asinine excuses for not obeying Jesus. They foolishly refuse the very Bread of Life, and the very Living Water sent from God, that every man must consume, to live one day in eternity.
In Luke 14:15-24: God is the Master Jesus is the implorring servant The Jews are the original invitees (Granted the OLD LAW) And- The the poor and crippled and blind and lame, are ALL those HUMBLE enough to OBEY His Will.
NO EXCUSE TODAY There is NO EXCUSE today for NOT FOLLOWING JESUS. We must ALL Receive the Word of God's message, accepting {it} not {as} the word of men, but {for} what it really is, the Word of God, which also performs its work in those who believe, (1Thes 2:13 NAS).
Room at The Table, NOW There is always room at the table for those whose God is God and whose Savior is Jesus the Christ. BUT
Room at The Table, NOW But if one waits too long, if he makes excuses too long, if one rejects the Savior too long, the promise is that the door to Heaven will be closed, and My house will be filled. Translation- You will be lost for eternity.
Accept God s Gracious Invitation By (v.1-6) Rejecting Legalistic Thinking By (v. 7-11) Exhibiting Genuine Modesty By (v ) Practicing Unselfish Generosity By (v ) Prioritizing Allegiance [to God]
