2 Instructions 1. Pray before you start talking about the Holy Spirit so He can direct your thoughts, words, and actions. 2. Start talking and asking questions about the boys and girls in the Bible. Ask students why the Bible writers even wrote about them for us. What is so special about these boys and girls? Can we be like them? How? 3. After they read each brief narrative about each Fruit of the Spirit and even the whole story from the Bible about each boy or girl, have the students write about a common-life event they might face where they will need to bear the Fruits of the Spirit to overcome that temptation or difficult situation. This unit might take several weeks; you can do a Fruit of the Spirt each week, once a week, or a Fruit of the Spirit each day. 4. At the end, there is a prayer for a boy and for a girl. Disregard the prayer that doesn t match your student s gender. 5. This unit is suitable for students in grades 1 to 4. This unit can be done after a Week of Prayer about the Fruit of the Spirit, or whenever you teach about the Holy Spirit from your Bible textbook and workbooks as an extra reinforcement about this concept. All of the Bible verses go along with the International Children s Bible version. 6. Hand this booklet to students single-page printed, not double-sided. There is a puzzle that students need to cut and glue on another paper and then insert it again in the booklet. 7. Save this booklet for Visitation Day, Back to School Night, etc. It would be great for family and friends to see what their child is learning at an Adventist School! 2

3 8. Feel free to send this booklet home after the unit is completed. Make copies for your own records in order to remember your students thoughts and reflections about the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives. NAD SDA Standards covered by this unit: Recognize the three-in-one members of the God-Family, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and their individual personal ministries. Identify that Fruit of the Spirit comes from God and portray His character. Determine that God s laws are gifts that reveal His character. 3

4 I can be loving, faithful, joyful, kind, patient and gentle just like THEM because they were boys and girls just like ME!!! 4

5 Did you know that boys and girls from the Bible stories had the Fruit of the Spirit? They went through difficult moments, yet, they trusted Jesus, the Holy Spirit helped them by giving them a special Fruit. Let s study some of these boys and girls, and find out which fruit they received, and how they could be a great example for us! After all, they were boys and girls just like YOU! 5

6 But the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:

7 And you must LOVE the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Deuteronomy 6:5 7

12 Josiah experienced the joy of giving when he and the people of Israel gave offerings for the repair of God s temple. He was a cheerful and joyful giver! (See 2 Kings 22-23) 12

14 When Jesus was a little boy, He loved singing! Everyone was happier when He was around! Can you think of five songs about being joyful? Think about these songs when you feel sad, they will help you feel better! Try singing when other people feel sad, too. Music is a powerful tool you can use to make you and other people feel better and happy!

15 May the Lord show favor toward you, and give you PEACE. Numbers 6:26 15

16 As a little boy, Daniel learned to trust God. He showed PEACE when he was taken captive to Babylon and when he ended up in the lion s den for obeying God. (See Daniel 1 & 6) 16

18 As you put this puzzle together, think about how PEACEFUL Daniel must have been to have a lion in front of him! Color the picture, cut on the lines and put the picture back together. 18

23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace patience, KINDNESS, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:

28 Captain Naaman s little maid showed GOODNESS toward the captain by letting him know about a prophet in Israel who could heal him. (See 2 Kings 5) 28

There are certain things that if you throw them to the ground they won t break apart, but there are other things with which we must be gentle and try not to drop them on the ground, because they will certainly break apart. 42 There are many situations when we feel tempted to not control our tongues and actions. Circle the right thing you should do, with God s help, in each situation. 43 Just as these boys and girls in the Bible bear the Fruit of the Spirit, I can surely bear the Fruit of the Spirit in my life, today. I will ask God the Father to help me pray each day for the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will give me the strength I need to bear His fruit in calm and difficult moments. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. 43
