2 Welcome to St. Margaret s Episcopal Church If you are visiting us for the first time, let us offer you an especially warm welcome. If at any moment in the service you are not sure what to do, ask any of your neighbors in the congregation they will be happy to help you. We would like to continue our relationship with you, so please fill out a Connect card (found in the pew racks and on the back tables) and drop the card in the collection plate or hand it to one of the clergy or ushers following the service. Yellow "welcome" bags are available from greeters in the sanctuary narthex and lobby of the parish hall for all newcomers. Children are loved and welcomed at St. Margaret s While children are always welcome at all services, professional nursery care for ages 0-4 is lovingly provided from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Nursery (downstairs in the Annex building connected to the church). Please ask an usher for assistance in locating the Nursery. We have a 9 a.m. service in the Parish Hall this morning with more room to spread out and a tot spot in the adjoining lobby for our younger guests. We normally provide Sunday School and formation for both adults and children for ages 3 and up on Sunday mornings from 10:20-11 a.m. There will be no Sunday School today to allow participation in the Easter Egg Hunt at 10:20 a.m. Families should meet in the new Fellowship Hall at 10:20 a.m. Communion All are welcome to receive bread and wine during communion, including children. To receive bread, place your hands palms-up at the communion rail. To receive wine, assist the Eucharistic Minister in guiding the chalice to your lips, or you may intinct by dipping the bread in the wine. If you do not wish to receive the bread or wine, place your arms across your chest and you will receive a blessing. Gluten-free wafers are available for communion. Indicate your wish for a gluten-free wafer by first extending your hands palms down when at the communion rail. 5 COLLECT OF THE DAY The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. O God, who for our redemption gave your only-begotten Son to the death of the cross, and by his glorious resurrection delivered us from the power of our enemy: Grant us so to die daily to sin, that we may evermore live with him in the joy of his resurrection; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. The people are seated. FIRST LESSON Acts 10:34-43 A reading from the book of Acts. Peter began to speak to Cornelius and the other Gentiles: "I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ--he is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. SECOND LESSON I Corinthians 5:1-11 A reading from Paul's first letter to the Corinthians. I would remind you, brothers and sisters, of the good news that I proclaimed to you, which you in turn received, in which also you stand, through which also you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message that I proclaimed to you--unless you have come to believe in vain. For I handed on to you as of first importance what I in turn had received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me. For I am the least of the apostles, unfit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me has not been in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them--though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me. Mark 16:1-8 When the sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint Jesus. And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb. They had been saying to one another, Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb? 6

8 When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man, dressed in a white robe, sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you. So they went out and fled from the tomb, for terror and amazement had seized them; and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid. Priest The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. NICENE CREED and We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 7

9 PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE Church of England, Spain Leader Faithful God, we think of your church today celebrating the Resurrection all over the world. Language, race, and nationalities may be different, but our worship and our joy on the Day of Resurrection make us one in the Gospel. Lord, in your mercy: Hear our prayer. Mighty God we pray for the leaders of the nations of the world that they may give priority to those with greatest need in the distribution of the world s basic resources. We especially pray for peace in the world and for countries where there is war and conflict. We remember today those involved in the fight against terrorism around the world and for all service personnel in active duty around the world. Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our prayer. Creator God, we pray for those who are in need. We especially pray for all those within our church who need our prayers, especially... We also pray for the brokenhearted, for the sick, for the lonely; that your very presence would comfort them in their time of need. Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our prayer. Merciful God, we pray for those who have recently died, especially... May they share in the promise of new life won for us all by the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ and his triumph over death and the grave. Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our prayer. Faithful God, we pray that we may reflect your love in our families, our church and our community; so that the world can witness that we are followers of Christ and draw others into his loving care. Lord, in your Mercy: Hear our prayer. O God, who always listens to us, who breathes new life into us, call us forward to resurrection. Call us to follow in the footsteps of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen. It is customary to omit the Confession of Sin during the season of Easter. 10 HOLY COMMUNION The people remain seated while offertory music is played, and bread and wine are brought to the altar. An offering of gifts is collected, and along with the bread and wine, they are presented to God as thanksgiving for the blessings poured out onto us. But chiefly are we bound to praise you for the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; for he is the true Paschal Lamb, who was sacrificed for us, and has taken away the sin of the world. By his death he has destroyed death, and by his rising to life again he has won for us everlasting life. 11 We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we may be acceptable through him, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country where, with the Ever-blessed Virgin Mary, Margaret and all your saints, we may enter the everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation. SENDING FORTH OF EUCHARISTIC VISITORS On most Sundays, we send out Eucharistic visitors to deliver the sacrament to those who cannot be with us. This is the prayer we use to send them on their way. In the name of this congregation I send you forth bearing these holy gifts, to (N.) that they may share with us in the sacrament of our Savior Jesus Christ. We who are many are One Body, because we all share one Bread, and one Cup.
