1 FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH A Place To Belong, Or A Place To Visit? Sunday, April 14 th, :00 a.m.

2 Welcome in the name FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. If you a visitor or newcomer, here is some helpful, basic information: Bibles (blue cover) and hymnbooks (brown cover) are provided for your use. A nursery is available in the lower hall for infants and toddlers. Washrooms are also located in the lower hall. If you wish to have a cushion or hard of hearing headset, please speak to one of the ushers who will be happy to obtain these items for you. We invite you to complete one of the blue Visitor Cards in the pew rack and place it in the offering plate toward the end of the worship service. This will help us get to know you better! Please silence cell phones, pagers and other electronics. Speak softly, Many people have allergies to fragrances and perfumes, so we try to keep our church a scent-free zone in consideration of the health and wellbeing of others! Thank you! You are about to meet with Almighty God, Creator of all things! We strongly encourage you to prepare for this meeting! Take a few moments to be silent. Read and reflect on the Scripture lessons listed in the service bulletin. Pray the Bible. Perhaps this prayer will help you begin your preparation: Prepare us, O God, for worship in this sanctuary, and give us grace to serve you with reverence, joy, and thanksgiving; through Jesus Christ Ushers: Greeters: William Crook (Head Usher) Sanctuary: Vivian Johnson Bill & Alice Pompu Balcony: Murray & Shirley Wolfe Eileen Hutton Elevator: Pat & Oscar Rivera AV Ministry: Kevin Rich Service of Worship Sunday, April 14 th, 2013 Third Sunday of Easter 11:00 a.m. *Indicates congregation is invited to stand as able* Music for Gathering Morning Chimes 1 Mark Anderson

What a friend!! God the first and last is with us. Sing hosanna, everyone!) (repeat last two stanzas with new words) Welcome Mark McKim Reflective Moment THE APPROACH: THE PRAISE AND WORSHIP OF GOD Call to Worship Joel Russell-MacLean Prayer of Invocation or the Collect *Hymn of Praise We Praise Thee, O God, Our Redeemer (vs. 1 & 2)#16 (The children will proceed to the front of the church during this hymn.) Leader: It is like the precious oil on the head, running down upon the beard, on the beard of Aaron, People: Running down over the collar of his robes. 2

4 Leader: It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion. All: For there the Lord ordained His blessing, life forevermore. *Gloria Patri #623 Congregation Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost: As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. People: Thanks be to God! *Hymn of Preparation THE WORD OF GOD PROCLAIMED Congregation 3 Looking back, O God, we wonder of that time in history When the early settlers gathered, building this community. Children did their chores and played here; men and women worked the land. Sundays, Lord, they knelt and prayed here, seeking Your protecting hand. Looking to Your love, we worship as Your people long have done, Sharing bread and Word and friendship, singing praises to Your Son. Bricks of old are such a treasure, well-worn pews proclaim our past; But Your love beyond all measure is the treasure that will last. Looking out, we see our neighbours, God, we offer You our labours so that all will know your grace. As we witness all around us, as we welcome strangers in, As we help those lost and homeless, Your church welcomes You again. we wonder what will be; Yet we trust Your Spirit, knowing You will guide our ministry. You give each new generation ways to praise You, work to do; God, be with this congregation as we keep on serving You. Sermon A Place to Belong or a Place to Visit Mark McKim

This summer, Fran Purvis (on staff with Inter Varsity at the U of Regina) is helping lead a team of students from the U of R to China! We are excited to be building partnership between Canadian and Chinese students at a local Chinese university; this is an opportunity to engage Chinese culture, serve and be served by Chinese students, and support the Christian movement there. There is significant financial cost associated with this trip, as well as huge need for prayer: you are invited to attend a Chinese luncheon (prepared with help from our friend Greens/Ming)! 9 LINE OF CREDIT CAMPAIGN UPDATE: First Baptist Church has an operating line of credit. Two years ago, because of your vision and commitment, we were able to reduce the accumulated debt on that line of credit. We also permanently reduced the maximum amount we could access from $80,000 to $65,000. The Deacons,Legacy Planning Committee and Treasurer believe it is prudent that before the official launch of DULF (Double Up Legacy Fund) on June 9 th, we further reduce the indebtedness on the line of credit. If you are willing and able to assist in this campaign over and beyond your regular weekly offering please mark your gift clearly for LINE OF CREDIT CAMPAIGN. At this point, we have received over $12,000 toward this campaign! 8

10 CONGREGATIONAL CARE COMMISSION NEEDS YOUR HELP IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS: Prayer Chain We really are in need of some more people to pray for our church family as prayer requests come in. If you feel led to become a part of this team please call Kathy Brown at or Pearl Bretz Telecare Team This team contacts our parishioners by telephone once a week/month to help keep them connected with our church family. Pastor Mark has a long list of individuals who would like a call, so if you feel you could help with this important ministry, please call Kathy at NEWS FROM THE DIACONATE: At their most recent meeting the Deacons considered and approved two new partnerships. The Gideons will be using the library on Saturday mornings for a prayer meeting. The Open Door Society will be operating a day camp for children in the Lower Hall during July and August. Both of these agreements allow us to support Kingdom goals and will also provide some additional revenues for our operating budget. MEMBERSHIP AT FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, REGINA There are three ways of becoming a member at First Baptist Church. Each represents a way of making it clear you have freely chosen to accept Jesus as your Lord: : that is to say, people must be of sufficient age and maturity to understand that in baptism they are announcing that Jesus is their Lord. Letter of Transfer : be sent from that church to First Baptist Church indicating you are a member in By Experience: If you were baptized as an infant, you may be received as a member of First Baptist Church provided you are able to give evidence that you personally accept Jesus as your Lord. If you were baptized as a believer, but are unable to obtain a letter of transfer for some good reason (perhaps the church of which you are a member has closed, or the records have been lost), you may also be received by experience, provided you are able to give evidence that you personally accept Jesus as your Lord. 9
