5 From the Library DECEMBER BOOK REVIEW THE BELOVED CHRISTMAS QUILT Three books in one, all written by a Brunstetter. All the Brunstetter fans will find this interesting! Book 1: LUELLA S PROMISE - by Wanda E. Brunstetter Leulla Ebersol has been caregiver for a dying woman and her young son. When Dena Zook gives Luella her favourite quilt, she makes Luella promise to pass it down to her future daughter. But Luella isn t sure she will ever marry if she can t find someone with maturity and faith like Dena s husband, Atlee Zook. Book 2: KAREN S GIFT by daughter, Jean Brunstetter Karen Allgyer and her husband moved to a slow-paced village to raise her children, but Karen longs for the closeness of family to help her through the challenges of managing three girls with one on the way. When life s pressures rise, will Karen cave to her fears? Book 3: ROSEANNA S GROOM by granddaughter, Richelle Brunstetter When the unexpected happens on the day of her wedding, Roseanna Allgyer can t help but blame herself, despite not understanding why. Then an old boyfriend returns to down, and she battles feelings for him while afraid of being hurt again. THE FARMERS MARKET MISHAP by Wanda & Jean Brunstetter Living alone for the first time in her life is lonely for Elma Hochstetler, whose twin sister, Thema, recently married. Though they share the running of a general store, more and more of Thelma s time is taken up by her growing family. Elma has dated some, but she wonders if she is just too picky to find love. Through a mishap at the farmers market, Elma meets Ben Wagler and instantly likes him. But there is a problem. He lives in Grabill 50 miles away! The store needs her. Her sister needs her. Elma feels love will forever remain beyond her grasp. Elma has a habit of putting others before her own needs. Can she learn to take a risk at following the desires of her heart?
6 CBOQ Children & Family - is excited to be an official sponsor of The Star, which opened in theatres in November. In Sony Pictures Animation's The Star, a small but brave donkey named Bo yearns for a life beyond his daily grind at the village mill. One day he finds the courage to break free, and finally goes on the adventure of his dreams. On his journey, he teams up with Ruth, a loveable sheep who has lost her flock and Dave, a dove with lofty aspirations. Along with three wisecracking camels and some eccentric stable animals, Bo and his new friends follow the Star and become accidental heroes in the greatest story ever told the first Christmas. A great family movie to watch at the theatres! A Motion Picture we have the book in our Library! A dangerous, homeless drifter who grew up picking cotton in virtual slavery. An upscale art dealer accustomed to the world of Armani and Chanel. A gutsy woman with a stubborn dream. A story so incredible no novelist would dare dream it.
7 Children's Ministry at FBKingsville This month we have included part one of a five-part series all about Children s Ministry! Each month we will answer a different question. This month is all about the Why do we do what we do? International Day of Children's Prayer has caused me to really stop and think more deeply about intentionality in the overall structure of Children's ministry. In short: why? where? who? how? and what are we doing? Just as these questions need to be answered for our adult ministries in order for spiritual growth and transformation to occur, they are no less important for us to answer for our children. I fell in love with the Jesus of the flannel graph. I distinctly remember fuzzy sheep and a smiling Saviour Who embraced little ones like me. Mission Band and sword drills are among my earliest recollections. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane, but why does this matter? Because they ARE my earliest memories! These are the foundations of my faith and although the methodologies may have changed, the WHY of what we do, never does! God's Word stands the test of time and our great WHY must always align itself in order to be effective in leading children toward spiritual health. Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all you mind." This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matthew 28:19-20 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Jesus Himself provides our framework! WORSHIP- "Love the Lord your God with all your heart" BELONG-"Baptize them" GROW-"teach them to obey" SERVE-"Love your neighbor as yourself" SHARE-"Go make followers" This is our WHY?! Intentional ministry to children seeks to fulfill these purposes. As we seek to build a children's ministry that intentionally disciples our children, the biggest puzzle piece will be the workers, those "boots on the ground" people who love and serve our children. We teach best by how we ourselves are living. Often, our actions speak volumes louder than our words with these eager learners and natural questioners. After all, we are their role models. Lack of focus and vision spiritually in ourselves, translates itself well as chaos and lack of spiritual health. Transformational faith and spiritual growth creates a model we need our children so desperately to see and emulate. It fulfills our mission: Becoming fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ and inviting others to do the same.
