Dear Sister: Peace and Blessings Be With You in the Name of the One Called By Many Names Whose One Truth Is Spoken In Many Different Languages. In the Duality of the Holy Spirit (Male and Female), we Honor and Represent the Female Principle of Creative Intelligence from an ancient African perspective, in order that we may realize that which Africa gave to the world: humanity, civilization, art, science and religion. In so doing, we consciously integrate the Sacred Wisdom with Dedicated Selfless Human Service (Right Action and Good Will) for the Greater Good of St. George s Church humanitarian programs in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. The Mystic Order of St. Maryum Sion (MOMS) is an African-centered service oriented humanitarian program established under the Religious Department of ROOTS International Arts Alliance, Inc. (ROOTS). ROOTS is a non-profit, nonpolitical charitable organization incorporated in the State of Illinois in February 1987 for cultural, educational, religious and scientific purposes. In 2004, Sister Imani Kali-Nyah, President & CEO of ROOTS International, Inc was appointed Goodwill Ambassador to St. George s Church in the Northern Hemisphere and Beyond by Abba Woldemarkos, Head Administrator of St. George in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. Sister Imani established MOMS as a service organization to heighten the awareness of St. George s humanitarian programs internationally, generate funds and provide service opportunities for members of the Order of the Mystic Order of St. Maryum Sion. St. Maryum Sion The African/Ethiopian Madonna MOMS embraces the Ethiopian Holy Mother and Child St. Maryum Sion (Zion) who is also known in various circles as "The Black Madonna," and Mary, Mother of God. Her origins are to be found in Ancient Africa (Ethiopia/Egypt) where she is known as Auset, Meri, and St. Maryum Sion in addition to hundreds of other revered names in Europe, North and South America and Asia. 2 The Mystic Order of St. Maryum Sion MOMS African-centered Humanitarian Service Program In Memory of Empress Menen Queen of Queens of Ethiopia and Queen Mekeda the Queen of Sheba: Queen of the South Mission and Purpose The primary mission of the Mystic Order of St. Maryum Sion Order is to heighten the visibility of St. George s Church history and the humanitarian Works of Empress Menen, in the Spirit of the Queen of Sheba: Queen of the South and to serve and support St. George s humanitarian programs in Addis Ababa Ethiopia by raising funds to maintain and expand the school, free clinic and homeless shelter and to provide qualified women from the African Diaspora with humanitarian service opportunities in Ethiopia. Membership Women who are at least 18 years of age, regardless of race, color, creed, nationality or ethnic origin who are of the highest moral integrity who have an innate desire to serve humanity with compassion and good will on a voluntary basis and who embrace African-centered Christianity. Humanitarian Programs & Activities Humanitarian Travel & Learn Program coordinate and establish fundraising activities for health fares, medical supplies and equipment, school supplies and technology, food, shelter and clothing for the homeless shelter, while serving St. George and learning more about ancient Ethiopian history (the land of the Garden of Eden and the Bible). Return to America spiritually rejuvenated and inspired: apply your experience and share your acquired knowledge about the program through daily interactions and by sharing information about our program in your respective community. 3 MOMS is based on ancient African spiritual teachings or the African Genesis which is Christianity from an African perspective: Ethiopia (Kush) is the land of the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:13): "...and a river went out of Eden to water the garden (Egypt) and from thence it was parted and became into four heads (Mediterranean Sea); the name of the first is Pison that is it which compassed the whole land of Havilah where there is gold; and the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone; and the name of the second river is Gihon and the same is that encompassed the Whole land of Ethiopia." 4 Sisters are required to pay annual membership dues and to conduct fundraising events for their particular service commitment. DRESS REQUIREMENT - All sisters are required to purchase MOMS Service Garments (white Ethiopian dress with red, gold and green sash). As we are a young organization, our management style is based on the ancient way: new members must declare their interest in one or more of the following areas: Fundraising Health Education Beautification of St. George Grounds DO NOT DECLARE AN AREA OF SERVICE UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING AND ABLE TO FULFILL THE MISSION YOU SET FOR YOURSELF.
