We wait to celebrate the birth of Jesus, who came to show us God the Father s love and to free us from sin, so that we could be with him forever. We wait with hope and joy, praying for his love to be born again in our hearts, in our home-school-parish community, and in the whole world. Throughout October and November, we have focussed on the Catholic Graduate Expectations of a Reflective, Creative and Holistic Thinker and A Self-Directed, Responsible, Lifelong Learner. What does this all mean for us? Are you a thinker when you work to solve problems? Are you an inquirer when we ask questions to solve problems? Are you reflective when you make sure you are on the right track. Do you use the gifts and talents God has given you for the benefit of others? Do you always do your best and are proud of the good things you do. Do you build on your strengths and learn to overcome your weaknesses? Do you set goals? Do you accept change? Are you thankful for the gifts of others? For December we are going to concentrate on preparing for the birth of Jesus and what it means to each of us daily? As Catholic Learners, we are reminded to treat each other respectfully and to learn and grow as a Catholic community keeping our Patron Saint St. Marguerite d Youville, Jesus, Mary and Joseph s example of unselfish love for others through the Advent Season and beyond. How will you prepare this Advent?

St. Catherine of Siena Parish Prayer to St. Marguerite d Youville Saint Marguerite d'youville, we turn to you in humble prayer because your life speaks to us of goodness, compassion and love in a world of suffering, anguish and pain. It is not unlike the world you knew as you went about doing good with a great love for the human family, with preference for the poorest of all. Your dream of universal charity became a mission in the Church. We give thanks to you for the inspiring vision that is ours today as your dream lives on. May we learn as you did the lifegiving power of love, the profound peace of unfailing trust, the deep mystery of suffering and pain, the comfort of We are continuing our Caught You Caring campaign as we are watching to catch others doing random acts of kindness! STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS Our Student Council will be leading us in our Advent Ceremonies. The first ceremony will take place on Mon. Dec. 4 at 12:40 Please join us for this celebration. GRADE 4 & 7 STUDENTS Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI) will be administered to all of our Grade 4 and 7 students during the weeks of November 27 th - Dec. 8. Parents if you do not want your child to participate then you must return the forms to your child s homeroom teacher. It is to help us to understand more about children s thoughts, feelings and experiences inside and outside of school. The MDI is a questionnaire that gives schools and communities valuable information about the strengths and needs of their children. MARYDALE CAMP TRIP Our Grade 3 students will be attending a Trip to Marydale Camp to experience the outdoors. We wish them a good time.

St. Marguerite d Youville, Pray for us. Amen. ADVENT CRAFT NIGHT Please join us for our Annual Craft Night on Wed. Dec. 6 at 6:30 in our school gym. Come celebrate Advent together as a Catholic Community and make a family craft together. JOY DAY JOY stands for Jesus, others and you! On Thurs. Dec. 7 th our children will be involved in creating a beautiful craft courtesy of our Catholic School Council. Every child will also receive a tasty treat while we celebrate JOY Day at school. Students are encouraged to wear red, white and green as we prepare for the Season of Advent. KINDERGARTEN POLAR EXPRESS TRIP On Fri. Dec. 8 all of our Kindergarten students will be going to Puddicombe Farm to ride the Polar Express! We wish them a wonderful time! CHRISTMAS FRIENDSHIP BAGS A friend is what the heart needs all the time. ~~ Henry Van Dyke.

4 In the spirit of Christmas and sharing with others, the students of St. Marguerite D Youville can voluntarily participate in our Give the Gift of Friendship program. Students can fill a box or bag with items for another student in our school system. The bags will go to deserving students and will help to spread holiday cheer. You may want to include such items as a toy, hats, mittens, school supplies, a gift card or items such as shampoo, bubble bath, or deodorant. Should your child wish to participate, please indicate if the bag is for a boy or girl in the primary, junior or intermediate division? If you would rather send in one or two items, please feel free to do so as well. We can certainly combine gifts together. All bags should be brought in by December 12th. Thank you for your support.
