If you would be willing to help every now and then, please contact Susan Crawford at or CREATE Requests Donations In April, CREATE requests donations for the Family Promise Center downtown. They provide laundry services, emergency housing, child care, life skills training and transitional housing for homeless women and children in Chattanooga. 4 Dear Friends in Christ, A Note From Our Rector I ve been active in the Episcopal Church now for more than a decade, and I still am amazed by the beauty and power of the way we approach Holy Week and Easter. I pray that you have known God s love as we ve moved through this season and that you know that Easter joy is still at work in you and in our community. Many churches tend to go all out during Lent. Along with the extra worship services, we add in extra programming. This has certainly been the case here at St. Peter s. Lent was an exciting time of learning and growing in community. We had classes covering the liturgy of the Eucharist, a visit from our Bishop, the full range of Holy Week services, and the incredible Sunday evening activities. I have to thank our whole staff and especially Linda Cooper and Lauren Abbott for their hard work on bringing those nights together. To put it succinctly, there s been a lot of good stuff going on! The trend in many places after Easter is to give time for everyone to catch their breath. There s nothing wrong with that! Well, except for one thing it isn t after Easter. We are right now in the season of Easter. We are right now in the thick of the glory of the resurrection. And while we will, for good reason, take time to catch our breath when it comes to the church s programs, this is no time to catch our breath as Christians! What better time is there to commit to regular attendance at worship than in the season where we celebrate with such joy the Lord s resurrection? What better time is there to be agents of resurrection in the world serving those people and in those places that might seem furthest from Easter hope than during this great season? And here s a challenging one for Episcopalians who tend to do worship and service pretty well what better time is there to share your story of joy and hope in Christ with a friend, a neighbor, or a loved one than during this season of new life? That is to say, what better time is there for evangelism than right now? St. Peter s Episcopal School News Love of Learning April 2018 St. Peter's students submitted original writings to the Southern Lit Alliance's Young Southern Writers literary contest. Fifteen of our students received recognition and will be honored on April 9 at the Tivoli Theatre. Joy of Service SAVE the DATE for this great Earth Day activity! On April 21, from 9:00 am until noon we welcome your service to Margaret s Garden. Here are a few tasks planned for the day: building of a green bean tipi trellis installation preparation of soil for a pumpkin patch and sunflower field weeding of garden beds spreading of compost A Lively Faith Congratulations to our boys basketball team for an undefeated season and for winning the ISC tournament. Their school spirit, perseverance, and sportsmanship were admired by all. One of the priorities that our Vestry identified for the coming year is welcome. That s a broad word that can mean a lot of things, and we re going to explore it more deeply in the coming months. However, one thing it must mean is that we are people who practice evangelism, flinging open the church s doors and welcoming new people among us. But they aren t going to appear here by magic. They need to hear your story. They need to hear what Jesus means to you. They need to hear why church matters. They need to understand the excitement, challenge, and joy to which new life in Christ calls us. If you are reading this, you know someone who needs that message. You are the evangelist God is calling. So here is my Easter challenge to you: tell your story. Tell your story of hope in Jesus to a friend who needs to hear it. Invite them to come to church. Help them through our service hand them the right books, tell them when to stand, kneel, and how to receive communion. Connect them with our ministries, our classes, our outreach opportunities, our small groups. We have an amazing, exciting thing going on at St. Peter s. The Lord is risen indeed, so let s tell about it. Easter Blessings, Fr. Quinn Parman+ Youth and Parents, Spring has sprung! There is so much to be grateful for in this season of hope and resurrection. New Beginnings #3 is finally here, April This is a retreat for Middle School students led by youth. It will be a great chance to build community and find a safe space for questions of faith. The youth are also looking forward to the Mission Trip this summer to the Heifer International Ranch in Perryville, AK. There is still one slot open if you would like to attend, so let me know soon if you haven t already. We will have a Car Wash/Bake Sale Fundraiser on April 28 and we will need lots of youth involvement and parish support. Please or call if you would be interested in volunteering or donating baked goods. Finally, we are already looking forward to the summer. We are going to have opportunities for outreach, community service, and fun. We are going to volunteer with organizations like Grace House on the Mountain, the Community Kitchen, and more. If you have ideas for more activities, like rafting, hiking, etc., send them my way so I can I put them in the schedule.
