1 David C Cook Sunday School Lesson Review Spring Quarter March May 2019 The Bible-in-Life Sunday School Lesson Review is designed to help Sunday school leaders understand and maintain uniform teaching direction throughout the quarter. As a pastor you will be able to tell at a glance what the children are studying. Children s sermons, and churchtime activities can be organized so that Sunday school themes are supported throughout the entire Sunday morning experience. As a Christian education director you will be able to see the Bible Basis for each age level and the focus of each lesson. You will be able to organize opening programs, plan whole school worship services, order materials needed for activities, and plan for special programs that might be valuable for your students. The Sunday School Lesson Review makes teacher training more efficient and effective since you can see at a glance exactly what each teacher needs to know each Sunday. The Sunday school superintendent will find the Sunday School Lesson Review important for supporting teachers in their planning and preparation. Classroom arrangements, large- or small-group activities, and bulletin board ideas can be prepared ahead of time to make Sunday morning easier for your teachers. David C Cook Bible-in-Life Bible-in-Life curriculum has Unified Themes, which are assigned for each unit (units normally coincide with calendar months). This makes possible unified teacher training, lesson introduction, or review in combined assembly and home activities. A Thorough Bible Study Program for All Ages curriculum targets the unique needs of two year olds in a two-year cycle. and Early curricula use their own Unified Themes in a two-year cycle, which take into consideration the special needs of these children. classes are studying the same book or period of Bible history with age-level appropriate lessons that support the Unified Theme. These curricula are on a three-year cycle. Adult curriculum is built around the Uniform Lessons Series, which provides comprehensive and in-depth Bible study for the adult learner. Bible coverage correlation for the age levels is achieved by the fact that these age levels are studying the same book of the Bible or the same historic period throughout the three-year cycle (e.g., Paul s missionary journeys and related Pauline Epistles) except for summer topical studies. 3 Lesson 1, March 3 rd Unit 19: Jesus Did Good Things Bible Basis: Jesus heals a paralytic (Mark 2:1-12). Lesson Focus: Jesus helped a man who couldn t walk. Unit 19: Jesus Shows His Love Bible Basis: Jesus blesses the children (Matthew 19:13-15.). Lesson Focus: Jesus always has time for us. Unit 19: Jesus Shows His Love Bible Basis: Jesus encourages Peter to walk on water with Him (Matthew 14:22-33). Lesson Focus: Jesus wants us to trust Him. Unit 19: Jesus Shows His Love Bible Basis: Jesus teaches the story of the two builders (Matthew 7:24-29; Luke 6:46-49). Lesson Focus: We learn about Jesus from His stories. Unit 19: Jesus Shows His Love Bible Basis: Jesus raises Lazarus (John 11:1-45). Lesson Focus: Jesus is all-powerful. Memory Verse: Nothing is impossible with God. Luke 1:37 Bible Basis: Jesus explains the Scriptures to two followers on the Emmaus road (Luke 24:13-35). Memory Verse: Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. John 14:21 Lesson Focus: Jesus opens the Scriptures to us. Upper Bible Basis: The risen Christ explains the Scriptures to discouraged disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35). Memory Verse: But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:31 Lesson Focus: Knowing the Bible helps us learn about Jesus. Bible Basis: The risen Christ restores Peter after his failure (John 21:3-17). Memory Verse: I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness. Jeremiah 31:3 Lesson Focus: Jesus loves us in spite of our failure. Unit 20: Jesus Friends Show His Love Bible Basis: Peter and John help a lame man (Acts 3:1-10). Lesson Focus: Jesus helps us help others. Memory Verse: Serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13 Unit 20: Jesus Friends Show His Love Bible Basis: Philip helps the Ethiopian man learn about Jesus (Acts 8:4-5, 26-39). Lesson Focus: God gives us people to teach us His Word. Unit Theme: Jesus Friends Show His Love Bible Basis: Philip tells the Ethiopian man about Jesus (Acts 8:4, 5, 26-39). Lesson Focus: We can tell others about Jesus. Memory Verse: Serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13 Unit 20: Jesus Friends Show His Love Bible Basis: Dorcas help others, and Peter helps her (Acts 9:36-41). 9 Palm Sunday, April 14 th Unit Theme: Jesus is Alive! Bible Basis: The crowds cheer Jesus as He enters Jerusalem (Matthew 21:1-11). Lesson Focus: Jesus is King! Bible Basis: Jesus makes his triumphal entry into Jerusalem (Matthew 21:1-11). Lesson Focus: Cheer and shout about Jesus! Memory Verse: I am with you always. Matthew 28:20 Bible Basis: Jesus makes his triumphal entry into Jerusalem (Matthew 21:1-11). Lesson Focus: Jesus is our King. Memory Verse: Jesus loves me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20 Unit: Palm Sunday Bible Basis: Jesus authority is questioned (Mark 11:27-33). Jesus tells the parable of the vineyard about His forthcoming death (Mark 12:1-12) Jesus is crucified (Mark 15: 24-39). Memory Verse: God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. John 3:17 Lesson Focus: God sent His Son to die for our sins. Upper Unit: Palm Sunday Bible Basis: Isaiah prophesies the coming of God s Savior (Isaiah53:5, 6). Peter says Jesus is the Son of God (Matthew 16:13-16). 10 Easter Sunday, April 21 st Unit Theme: Jesus is Alive! Bible Basis: Mary looks for Jesus at the tomb (John 20:10-18). Lesson Focus: Mary looked for Jesus. Bible Basis: Jesus is crucified, raised from the dead, and appears to His friends (Luke 23:46, 50-56; 24:1-12, 35-44). Lesson Focus: Jesus died and is alive again! Memory Verse: I am with you always. Matthew 28:20 Bible Basis: Jesus died and rose again (Matthew 27:33-38, 57-61; 28:1-8). Lesson Focus: We can tell others that Jesus lives! Memory Verse: Jesus loves me and gave himself for me. From Galatians 2:20 Unit: Easter Bible Basis: Jesus followers are stunned by the empty tomb (Luke 24:1-12; John 10:17-18). Memory Verse: Because I live, you also will live. John 14:19 Lesson Focus: Jesus is alive! Upper Unit: Easter Bible Basis: Jesus is crucified for our sins and then rises from the dead (Matthew 27:1-50; 28:1-6; 2 Corinthians 5:15-21). Unit Theme: Jesus Friends Show His Love Bible Basis: Paul and Silas help the Philippian jailer (Acts 16:25-36). Lesson Focus: Our actions can show we love Jesus. Memory Verse: Serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13 Unit 20: Jesus Friends Show His Love Bible Basis: Seven helpers are chosen so widows won t be neglected (Acts 6:1-7). Lesson Focus: God gives us different jobs. Memory Verse: As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:34 Bible Basis: Jacob tricks his brother and father (Genesis 25:27-34; 27:1-45). Memory Verse: Each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor. Ephesians 4:25 Lesson Focus: Being honest helps us get along with others. Unit 21: Jesus Friends Help Others Bible Basis: People in the early church share what they have with one another (Acts 4:32-37). Lesson Focus: Sharing makes everyone happy. Memory Verse: Let us do good to all people. Galatians 6:10 Unit 21: Jesus Friends Help Others Bible Basis: Peter tells Cornelius about Jesus (Acts 10:1-9, 17b-48).
