2 LEADERSHIP IS A CHOICE and it is one I hope you'll make. Leadership isn't another program to attend. Our student leadership team isn't just for a select few. It isn't just for the cute, fun, or popular. Leadership isn't about having an extroverted and outgoing personality. Being a leader is a personal commitment to carry out a cause. For us at Extreme, that cause is Jesus. The most meaningful commitments are tough to keep, but they are worth the effort because our priorities determine who we are and who we are becoming. This team will be an incredible opportunity for you to grow as a leader and learn how to follow through on commitments. Each student will learn how to take ownership and be a part of a cause greater than themselves. Maybe you re thinking, being a leader at Extreme is only for those who have leadership skills already? Not necessarily. A leader is committed to the cause, serves others, sees what needs to get done to make Extreme better and does it. We see a great example of that from Jesus in Matthew 20: 25-28: But Jesus called them (the disciples) to him and said, You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. This application will help you understand the leadership commitment, and it's our hope that you'll reach for this high standard. 8 Applicant s Statement We re asking a lot from student leaders and because of this, we realize leadership isn t for everyone. Many people won t want to rise to the high level of commitment we are expecting. Others might not have enough time to commit to the requirements for Extreme student leadership. If student leadership isn t for you, don t worry about it. Also you do not have to be a student leader to help out. Please help us continue to reach our vision and consider applying at a later time. Not being involved in Student Leadership isn t necessarily a measure of your spiritual maturity or your commitment to Chapel Hill Student Ministries. We are committed to you and want to help you continue to grow spiritually regardless of your involvement with Extreme Student leadership. Although we re asking for a considerable commitment from our student leaders, there are also benefits. Student Leadership has high requirements, but it also has high rewards. Part of the high reward student leaders receive is personal time with the Extreme staff. We want to invest in the lives of our leaders. In addition to this, you ll have opportunities for training and service in Extreme that will only be available to student leaders. Finally, as a member of the Student Leadership team, you ll be connected to an outstanding community of believers who strive to put God first and serve the Kingdom.
