2 Should you receive Holy Communion today? Holy Communion is the real and saving Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, mysteriously made present in ordinary bread and wine, according to the promise Christ made at His Last Supper. Through this wondrous gift, we believe that Christ extends to us the promise of salvation, a strengthening of our faith, the forgiveness of our sins and protection from the assaults of the devil. Ultimately, we hope that everyone will come to believe and trust in these promises as we do here at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran. However, if you are not at least open to believing in these mysteries concerning Holy Communion, are unwilling to ask God s forgiveness for personal sins or have not yet been baptized (which ALWAYS precedes one s participation in Holy Communion) it is best to simply wait. If in faith you genuinely desire encountering the love and forgiveness of Christ in Holy Communion, please be repentant for sins and open to His saving Presence contained therein. You will not be turned away. (For those who wish to abstain from alcohol, please find dealcoholized wine in the center of the communion tray it is pinkish in color. Lord God, heavenly Father, we thank and praise You for Your great goodness in bringing these Your sons and daughters to the knowledge of Your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ, and enabling them both with the heart to believe and with the mouth to confess His saving name. Grant that by Your Word and Spirit they may continue steadfast in the one true faith in the fellowship of this congregation as together we await the day when all who have fought the good fight of faith shall receive the crown of righteousness; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Immediately [Jesus] made his disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. 46 And after he had taken leave of them, he went up on the mountain to pray. 47 And when evening came, the boat was out on the sea, and he was alone on the land. 48 And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out, 50 for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid. 51 And he got into the boat with them, and the wind ceased. And they were utterly astounded, 52 for they did not understand about the loaves, but their hearts were hardened. 53 When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored to the shore. 54 And when they got out of the boat, the people immediately recognized him 55 and ran about the whole region and began to bring the sick people on their beds to wherever they heard he was. 56 And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or countryside, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored him that they might touch even the fringe of his garment. Do you believe in God, the Father Almighty, in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord, and in the Holy Spirit? R Yes, I believe in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Do you hold all the prophetic and apostolic Scriptures to be the inspired Word of God and the doctrine of the Lutheran Church, drawn from them and confessed in the Small Catechism, to be faithful and true? R I do. Do you intend to hear the Word of God and receive the Lord's Supper faithfully? R I do, by the grace of God. Do you desire to become members of this congregation? R I do. Will you support the work our gracious Lord has given this congregation with your prayers and the gifts God has given you? R I will, with the help of God. Upon this your confession of faith, I acknowledge publicly that you are members of the (Evangelical) Lutheran Church and of this congregation, Shepherd of the Hills in Crossville, Tennessee. Receive the Lord's Supper and participate with us in all the blessings of salvation that our Lord has given to His Church, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

9 PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. THE WORDS OF THE LORD Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me. In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. 10 NICENE CREED C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. It is right to give Him thanks and praise It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who on this day overcame death and the grave and by His glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying: Amen.
