3 SAINT REPORT Your saint report must be 2 pages double spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font, 1 inch margins and answer the following questions: 1) Who was the Saint? (Where were they from, what was their early life, family background, etc.) 2) What did they do to deserve being called a saint? 3) What do you admire about them? 4) Why did you choose this saint? (What characteristics would take on from this person?) 5) What is the symbol for this saint? * Saints are known to have special gifts or charisms from God: St. Anthony for eloquent preaching, and St. Theresa of the Child Jesus for her little ways or small acts of great love. Other saints are special patrons of the arts or activities: St. Cecilia for music, St. Sebastian for sports, and St. Michael the Archangel for police officers. Do any of these special gifts relate to your life? Why? * Saints were ordinary people who strove to do God s will. It is interesting to see the different viewed that people have about what Sainthood means. Mother Theresa was questioned by a TV reporter, What are you trying to do, become a saint? She responded, Yes. Shouldn t we all strive for that? However, another Catholic leader, Dorothy Day was quoted as saying, don t call me a saint; I don t want to be dismissed that easily. Are saints people we can strive to be like, or are they too holy for us to even try to be like them? What do the saints do for our faith? Helpful Resources:

4 LETTER OF INTENT As a Confirmation candidate, you are required to send a letter to the Episcopal Vicar of the Central Region explaining what Confirmation means to you personally and why you wish to be confirmed. The letter should be well written and typed. The purpose of the letter is to describe what is happening in your faith life. You should include what service activities you have completed and how you have prepared for Confirmation. Your letter should be typed and begin with the greeting, Dear Fr. Flavin. You should begin your letter with the statement I wish to be confirmed this year at St. Mary St. Catherine of Siena Parish. In your letter should: - Explain why you are interested in being confirmed. - What are your reasons for choosing your confirmation name? - What are your reasons for choosing your sponsor? - Describe your faith life: o What have your experiences of faith been in the past? o What has grown your faith? o Where have you struggled in faith? - What are your strengths and weaknesses as a Confirmation candidate? - Where do you see God most effectively? - What is your prayer life like? - Name 3 concrete spiritual goals for yourself (e.g. spending more time in prayer, going to Mass regularly, finding new ways to commit yourself to the church community) - How do you plan to participate as a young adult in the Church?

Volunteer opportunities will be announced in class and via . Community Service is an opportunity that is performed according to need. It is not paid. If you have received payment for the services you provided, you cannot submit if towards your community service hours requirement.
