Connect Church Welcome to Connect Church If you are visiting with us for the first time, WELCOME!

We hope this time of praise and the study of God s Word will be an encouragement for you.

This act of worship and obedience is for baptized believers. It is a time when we reflect upon the death of Christ and how He gave His life for us.

We are directed in Scripture to examine ourselves in order to not participate in an unworthy manner.

I have found friendships within this church that I could have never imagined. Friends who encourage me, mentor me, and hold me accountable.

2 Connect Church Welcome to Connect Church If you are visiting with us for the first time, WELCOME! We are glad it was your choice to worship Christ with us today. We hope this time of praise and the study of God s Word will be an encouragement for you. please join us between services for refreshments and fellowship. On Sunday, July 29th, we will partake of the Lord s Supper. This act of worship and obedience is for baptized believers. It is a time when we reflect upon the death of Christ and how He gave His life for us. Please spend time this week preparing your heart for this worshipful time. We are directed in Scripture to examine ourselves in order to not participate in an unworthy manner. 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 I love this church because I know without a doubt that this is exactly where God has called my family and I to be. I have found friendships within this church that I could have never imagined. Friends who encourage me, mentor me, and hold me accountable. I love that I get to watch my children grow up with other families that have the same love for God. I serve God's church as one of two coordinators for our Acreage MOPS group in which we encourage and uplift moms during their times of raising their children. I love watching this ministry be a blessing to other moms as well as in my own life. I also serve on Sunday mornings at the Acreage location by greeting families and assisting as they check their children into our children's areas.

Church Life Asking specific questions of God is a great tradition in Scripture. Abraham stood by the oaks of Mamre and asked the Lord. Will not the Judge of the earth do right?

David asked, Where shall I go? To Hebron, the LORD answered. So David went up. As God s children, we should ask Him more than just rhetorical questions.

His answers won t always be as unmistakable as they were to David, but He invites us to ask Him nonetheless.

Rather, He has provided us His Word with principles for effective financial stewardship principles we have to wrestle with.

3 Church Life Asking specific questions of God is a great tradition in Scripture. Abraham stood by the oaks of Mamre and asked the Lord. Will not the Judge of the earth do right? At a great hinge point in his life (2 Samuel 2:1-2), David asked the Lord two very specific questions: Shall I go up to on of the towns of Judah? he asked. The LORD said, Go up. David asked, Where shall I go? To Hebron, the LORD answered. So David went up. As God s children, we should ask Him more than just rhetorical questions. We should ask and seek and knock, expecting some kind of response or provision from our God (Matthew 7:7). The Lord has no trouble handling our most challenging questions. His answers won t always be as unmistakable as they were to David, but He invites us to ask Him nonetheless. When it comes to financial stewardship, God hasn t handed each of us a standardized checklist with little boxes to mark off one by one. Rather, He has provided us His Word with principles for effective financial stewardship principles we have to wrestle with. In the process of this struggle, God expects us to seek His face and to pursue the counsel of godly believers who have traveled further than we along Stewardship Road. God s Word - Time With God Today s SOAP Pastor Jim Sims Scripture: 2 Samuel 15:10-16, 24-30 Observation: David and his household had to flee for their lives.

5 God s Word - Time With God Today s SOAP Pastor Jim Sims Scripture: 2 Samuel 15:10-16, Observation: David and his household had to flee for their lives. Absalom, David s son, turned the hearts of the people against him. Absalom wanted to be king. In verse 25 David sends the ark of the covenant back to Jerusalem with Zadok the priest. David shares that the Lord will allow him to see both Jerusalem and the ark again. It is a statement of faith. However, unlike those who believe that if you say something enough it will happen, David acknowledged that it might be the Lord s displeasure with him, which was causing the departure and might keep him from returning. He trusted the Lord. Also of note is that this powerful symbol, the ark, was not the Lord s presence, just a reminder of and assurance of His presence. Therefore David could send it back to Jerusalem with confidence because he knew that God would continue to be with him wherever he went. Application: Today we need to be certain we are trusting God with all of the circumstances of our life. He will guide us through the good times and the bad. It is good to have reminders of his presence built all around our lives. (For example: scripture verses upon our house and facebook walls, a journal noting specific things God has done, good Christian music on the radio, Pandora or Spotify) However, if we have none of those physical reminders He promises that He will never leave or for sake us. He is our forever God. Prayer: Lord help me trust you in the good times and bad. Help me always remember that you are with me. How Do I SOAP? Scripture - Read the passage of Scripture for the day and allow God to speak to you. Write down a verse which spoke to you. Observation - Write your observation as to what is happening in the text. What do you believe is the point of the passage? Application - Write down how the Scripture passage applies to your life today. Prayer - Ask God to help you use this Scripture for greater insight on what He may be revealing to you. Remember, prayer is a two-way conversation, so be sure to listen to what God has to say! Next Steps David had a deep confidence God would guide the situation according to His will. Do you have the same confidence that the Lord will guide everything in your situation?
