(a) Four activities that took place during the dedication of Jesus in the Temple Luke 2:22-44.(8mks) (i) Jesus was taken to Jerusalem to be presented to the Lord by his parents. (ii) Simeon took Jesus up in his arms/blessed the Lord. (iii) Simeon said that he was ready to die, he had seen God s salvation/ a light for revelation to the gentiles/the glory to the Israelites. (iv) Simeon blessed the parents of Jesus. (v) Simeon told Mary, Jesus mother that the child was set for the fall and (vi) rising of many in Israel. Anna gave thanks /prayed/spoke of Jesus to all who were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem. (vii) The parents of Jesus performed everything according to the law of the Lord/offered a pair of turtle doves/pigeons. (viii) Parents of Jesus returned home. (First 4 points 2) 4 2 = 8 marks. (a) How john the Baptist prepared the way for the messiah (6mks) (i) John baptized people in River Jordan. (ii) He called people to repent. (iii) He advised people to lead honest lives. (iv) He warned people of the coming judgment. (v) He acknowledged Jesus greatness over him. (vi) He introduced Jesus to his disciples. (vii) He told people that he was not the messiah but His forerunner. (viii) He encouraged the rich to share with the poor. (ix) Reprimanded Herod for marrying his brother s wife. (x) He Baptised Jesus. (xi) He preached the good news that the messiah would baptize with fire and Holy Spirit. (Any 6 points 1) 6 1 = 6marks. (b) Ways in which the church wins people for God s kingdom. (i) By baptizing them. (ii) Providing guidance and counseling. (iii) Asking people to repent their sins. (iv) Encourage the youths to stop immoral behaviour/practice. (v) Assisting the needy. 1
2 (vi) Rehabilitating wrongdoers/making them useful. (vii) Praying for them. (viii) Preaching to people about salvation. (Any 6 points 1) 6 1 = 6 marks 2. (a) The call of the first disciples of Jesus in (Luke 5: 1-11) (8 marks) (i) Jesus was at the shore of Lake Gennesaret preaching the Gospel. (ii) People came to hear him preach the Gospel. (iii) He saw two unoccupied boats whose owners were washing their nets. (iv) Jesus got into the boat belonging to Simon Peter and began to preach. (v) After preaching, he told Simeon to put the boat into the deep waters and cast the net. (vi) Peter told Jesus that they had toiled all night without catching any fish but was ready to do it due to Jesus request. (vii) They got a multiple catch which almost made the nets break and the boats to sink/asked for help. (viii) When Simeon Peter saw this, he fell on his knees and confessed that he was a sinner. (ix) Jesus told Peter not to fear for he would be made a fisherman. (x) Peter, James and John left their boats and followed Jesus. (Any 8 points 1) 8 1= 8 marks. (b) Six factors that made Jesus choose the twelve disciples (6marks) (i) He wanted companions during His public Ministry. (ii) The disciples were to assist Him in His mission work. (iii) Jesus wanted to reveal to them the secrets about His messiah ship. (iv) He wanted to train them to succeed him after His death. (v) Jesus wanted to reveal to them the secrets of the kingdom of God. (vi) There was need to fulfill the theme of election aimed at bringing people back to God. (vii) Jesus was building a new Israel which comprised twelve tribes. (First 6 points 1) 6 1= 6 marks. (c) Six lessons that Christians learn from the call of the first disciples. (6mks) (i) Christians should be ready and willing to leave everything and follow Jesus Christ. (ii) Christian should acknowledge and be remorseful for their sins just as simon peter did. (iii) Christian should obey God s call at all times. (iv) There is need for team work in the service of God. (v) It is the duty of Christians to preach the gospel to others. 2
3 (vi) God reveals himself to His people through the miracles He performs. (vii) Christians must have faith. (viii) Those who follow Jesus Christ never lack anything. First 6 points (6 1 = 6 marks.) 3. a) Describe Jesus triumphant entry to Jerusalem Luke 9: (8 marks) (i) When Jesus was close to Jerusalem, He sent two of his disciples to a village to bring a colt that had not been ridden. (ii) The disciples were to find the colt tied. (iii) If asked why they were untying it, they were to say that the master needs it. (iv) They brought the animal (colt) to Jesus and cast their garments upon it. (v) Jesus rode on it as people spread their clothes on the road. (vi) The multitude of His disciples began to rejoice and praise God. (vii) The crowd hailed Jesus as the king of Israel. (viii) Some Pharisees asked Jesus to rebuke the disciples to keep quiet. (ix) Jesus responded that if they kept quit the stones would cry out. (Any 8 points 1) 8 1 = 8 marks. b) Seven extra ordinary things that took place during the crucifixion of Jesus i. Simon of cyrene carried the cross beam. ii. Large crowd (women) mourned and wailed. iii. Jesus was crucified together with two thieves. iv. Jesus forgave his executioners/divided his clothes. v. The rulers mocked Jesus saying save yourself. vi. The soldiers mocked him, coming up to him and offering him vinegar and saying If you are king of the Jews, save yourself. vii. There was also an inscription over him, This is the king of the Jews. viii. In the sixth hour, darkness engulfed over the whole land until the ninth hour (3 hours) ix. The curtain of the temple was torn into two. x. Jesus died with a loud prayer on his lips Father, unto thy hands I commit my spirit. xi. The centurion praised God and gave witness saying; this man was innocent. xii. Multitudes returned home beating their chests. xiii. One criminal hurled insults to Jesus, the other one rebuked him. (First 7 points) 7 1 = 7 marks. c) Five signs of eschatology visible to Christians today (5 marks) 3
4 i. Presence of many false prophets. ii. Natural calamities. iii. Many wars. iv. Outbreak of incurable diseases. v. Many cults which spread fear among the people about the end of times. vi. Persecution of Christians. vii. Christians face difficulties which have challenged their faith (gay marriage) (First five points 1 (5 1= 5 marks) 4. a) How Peter s life was transformed on the day of Pentecost (Ats 2:1 40). i. Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit. ii. He started speaking in tongues. iii. He became courageous/defended the disciples that they were not drunk. iv. He was able to remember Old Testament prophecies/teachings. v. He began witnessing the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. vi. He called people to repentance. vii. He was empowered to perform miracles. viii. He took up the leadership roles. Any 7 points = 7 marks. b) Outline what Peter said about Jesus during his speech on the day of Pentecost. i. That Jesus was the son of God/ Messiah. ii. Jesus performed miracles through the power of God. iii. The people were witnesses to the miracles of Jesus. iv. Peter accused them of crucifying and killing Jesus. v. The death of Jesus was according to the will of God. vi. The resurrection of Jesus had been foretold by David. vii. The disciples were witnesses to the risen Christ. viii. Jesus Christ was from Nazareth. ix. Jesus was exalted in heaven. x. God had made him both Lord and judge. xi. Jesus is a descendant of King David. (Any 7 points 1) 7 1 = 7 marks c) Ways in which Christians in Kenya demonstrate the New Testament teaching on unity. (6 marks) i. Christians meet for prayers/fellowship together ii. They observe a day of worship to honour God. iii. They help those who are poor/needy. iv. They solve problems affecting the church members. v. They hold joint crusades / rallies. 4
5 vi. They also co-operate by providing Christian programmes in the mass media/source materials. vii. They speak in one voice to condemn evil in society. viii. Through ecumenical organizations eg NCCK, catholic secretariat etc. (Any 6 points 1) a) Seven factors that should be considered when determining a just wage. i. The ability of the employer to pay. ii. The profits or returns of the enterprise. iii. The academic qualifications of the employee. iv. Te needs of the employee. v. The work experience of the employee. vi. The amount of work done. vii. The efficiency of the employee. viii. The risks of the job to be done. ix. The number of working hours. (First 7 points 1) 7 1=7 b) Moral duties and responsibilities of an employee towards an employer. (7marks) i. To work according to the terms of contract and to the best of their ability without supervision. ii. To take care of the employers property by using it responsibly for the intended purpose. iii. To use the correct channels to resolve disputes. iv. To cooperate with other workers to execute duties. v. To give enough notice to the employers when one plans to leave the job. vi. To keep the secrets to the firm in order to safeguard business. vii. To be faithful to the employer by being punctual and working effectively. viii. To respect the employer and fellow employees and work diligently. ix. To have the necessary skills and abilities to do quality work. x. Should express good will to the employer in times of need. (Any 7 points 1) 7 1= 7 marks. c) How a Christian should respond when offered a job in a hardship area.(6 marks) i. Acknowledge and accept the offer through writing. ii. Collect information about the place of work. iii. Endure the hardships and overcome them. iv. Make adequate preparations for the job. v. Seek training in life skills. 5
6 vi. Pray for God s guidance and protection. vii. Be honest and adhere to professional ethics. viii. One should work with commitment and dedication. ix. Take the opportunity to preach the word of God. x. Seek guidance on how to work and live in a hardship area. xi. Give thanks to God for the job opportunity. (Any 6 points 1) 6 1= 6 6. a) How money economy has undermined the principles of Christian living in Kenya today. (6 marks) i. Wage labour has undermined the family unit. ii. People are discriminated against because of poverty. iii. There is power struggle to acquire wealth and protect it. iv. Struggle to acquire wealth has undermined commitment to God. v. Bride wealth has been commercialized thus undermining love and equality among partners. vi. There is use of unjust means to acquire wealth. vii. People sell family land and end up living as squatters. viii. There is individualism as opposed to communal sharing of property. ix. Overdependence on foreign aid has undermined hard work to earn a living. x. Subsistence farming has been replaced by cash crop farming leading to lack of food. (Any 7 points 1) 7 1= 7 marks. b) Seven ways in which wealth is acquired in traditional African communities. i. As a gift from God (blessings) ii. Through inheritance, parents share their wealth with their children. iii. Through marrying many wives and having many children who provided labour force. iv. Through barter trade. v. Through payment of bride wealth. vi. Through exploitation of natural resources eg forests, lakes and minerals. vii. Through farming and livestock rearing. viii. Gifts were given in appreciation of talents/good conduct /loyalty. ix. Warfare/raids. x. Use of skills eg tool making /weaving/pottery (they were able to produce goods for exchange.) xi. Talents eg medicine men /diviners/rainmakers who sold their services. xii. Hard work eg clearing forests, virgin land to enrich themselves. 6
7 (First 7 points 1) 7 1= 7 marks. c) Seven ways through which Christians can use their wealth to glorify God. i. Through financing the spread of the gospel. ii. Contributions towards the construction of hospitals/schools/churches/homes for the old/destitute/disabled/rehabilitation centres. iii. Provision of formal education. iv. Provision of professional training. v. Provision of technical training. vi. Giving famine relief (eg to the drought stricken area) vii. Provision of social services/amenities to others/needy. viii. Giving taxes to the government. ix. Providing for the family needs. (First 7 Points 1) 7 1 = 7 marks. 7
