Bradbury Eugene Englert Invitation to Worship P God is in this place and has invited us here today to be in graceful communion with him, the author of all of life. God is here and promises to meet us as the one God, Father, + Son, and Holy Spirit. C Amen!! Christ is risen! A Jesus Christ, the one who was, who is and is to come, most mighty God, and gentle Shepherd, caring for us his sheep, greets us and invites us to come to him for life in abundance. C Amen!! Christ is risen! P The Holy Spirit, comforter and counselor, is at work in us this day calling us to faith and to a life of following the Good Shepherd. C Amen!! Christ is risen, indeed! A We worship this day lacking nothing because we belong to God and to one another. C God leads us to streams of living water and lush green pastures. P When we run away God seeks us out and finds us and brings us home. C In the dark shadows of death and evil we are held close by the one who loves us. A God sets a heavenly banquet before us, anoints us with costly oil, and pours our cup full of never ending goodness. C Through all of our life, God s goodness never fails. LicenSing#U5595 Holy Gospel John 10:11-18 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand, who is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and runs away and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. The hired hand runs away because a hired hand does not care for the sheep. I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father. And I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that do not belong to this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life in order to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. Used by permission OneLicenseA Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. 8

9 On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. Those worshipping on Saturday may share offerings as you come forward for Holy Communion. The Hunger Jar is also available. Distribution - by continuous tables. All baptized Christians who believe Christ is truly present in the bread and wine of the Sacrament of Holy Communion are welcome at Christ s table at Shepherd of the Desert. Please follow the directions of the ushers as you come forward to the altar rail by the center aisle. You may kneel if you are able. Grape juice may be substituted for wine if you let your server know by raising your index finger as you are served. Once you have been served, you may take your wine cup to the basket at the end of the pew. You then may return to your seat by the side aisles. 10
