Youth will explore the Christian community described in James and seek better ways to welcome all people. Youth will consider personal discipleship in light of Peter s declaration and Jesus interpretation of the Messiah. Youth will discern how Jesus calling challenges their images of greatness. Youth will explore the need to accept the breadth of those who call on Jesus name. Youth will explore Jesus teachings of mutual respect and concern as well as how healthy relationships help us serve God. Youth will learn about God s holistic claim on their lives. Youth will learn to follow Jesus teaching about greatness. Youth will, with Bartimaeus, reflect on what in their lives must be cast aside in order to be a more faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. Youth will connect with the God who transcends boundaries to bring new life and hope.

Youth will wonder about Christ s sovereignty by considering the significance of Alpha and Omega.

Youth will acknowledge the materialism of our culture and explore how John s call of metanoia beckons us to selfless lives. Youth will discover that one young person s story Mary s story or their own can change the world. Youth will acknowledge that, like Jesus, they are nurtured by the whole congregation and give thanks. Youth, with the magi, will explore what it means to seek God s guidance and journey in faith. Youth will explore God s claim on their lives and consider how this claim leads to actions of faith. Youth will feel freed to explore their diverse spiritual gifts in unity with Christian community. Youth will engage the transformative power of worship and scriptural interpretation through the story of the returning exiles experience in Nehemiah 8. Through Jeremiah s story, youth will lay aside their doubts and embrace God s call to act for justice in the world.

Youth will gain new perspectives on the meaning of blessings and woes as they examine the vision in Jesus teaching. Youth will deepen their understanding about what it means to embody grace and kindness as an act of resistance.

Youth will reflect on the temptation of Jesus and how he made choices that demonstrated faithfulness to God. Youth will imagine how God s love can transform the threat of violence into a desire for compassion and hope. Youth will affirm that satisfaction comes through a relationship with God instead of worldly commitments. Youth will identify God s amazing grace and explore ways grace shapes relationships and community. Youth will seek ways to emulate Mary s generosity as they consider the importance of Jesus Christ in their lives. Youth will learn how Holy Week s events show Jesus as our king from God, and will explore ways to honor his rule in word and deed. Youth, with the women, will identify the challenges of proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. Youth will explore what it means to believe without seeing and consider how to live in a world that gives more weight to provable facts than the mystery of faith. Youth will examine God s intervention in Saul s life and, like Saul, begin to view the world through changed eyes.

6 Session 11 May 12, 2019 Easter 4 Psalm 23 Session 12 May 19, 2019 Easter 5 Revelation 21:1 6 Session 13 May 26, 2019 Easter 6 Acts 16:9 15 Like the psalmist, youth will find that well-being comes through entrusting their lives to God. Youth will stroll through Revelation 21 s vision and join in God s reconciling work, in solidarity with others and the world. Through Paul and Lydia s story, youth will engage the collaborative relationship between the work of the Spirit and their own choices.

As youth examine the Pentecost story, they will identify how the Spirit can empower them to find their voice and bear witness to the gospel. Youth will declare, with help from the psalmist, the majesty of God, who empowers us to care for creation. Through Elijah s story, youth will discover that they can count on God s presence, no matter what. Youth will explore their lineage of faith through the relationship between Elijah and Elisha. Youth will feel encouraged that, through the worshiping community, God meets them in their suffering and does not leave them there, clothing them with joy. Youth will be challenged by Jesus story of the Samaritan to practice God s shocking love-ethic, especially with unexpected people. Youth will strive to balance their discipleship between their many activities and their devotion to God. Youth will discover that praying for God s will to be done tells us who God is and who God calls them to be. Youth will explore the tension between being rich in money and things and being rich toward God. Youth will explore living in faith as living in the assurance that God, even though seemingly absent and silent, will fulfill God s purposes for the world.

8 Session 12 August 18, 2019 Proper 15 Hebrews 11:29 12:2 Session 13 August 25, 2019 Proper 16 Luke 13:10 17 Youth will gain insight and courage from the cloud of witnesses in order to be witnesses to others. Youth will reject societal prejudices that separate people and explore ways to promote the freedom that restores human beings to community.
