2 Your Monthly Bill Ten Ways to Get More Out of the Sunday Bulletin Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ: Here are some things that you may want to try in order to get more use from your Sunday bulletin. # 1 Use the scripture insert to reread the lessons daily I m often amazed at how a passage conveys new and deeper meanings after multiple days of rereading; and bring it with you to the Wednesday morning Bible Study Group # 2 Pray the Parish Prayer list daily everyone and every ministry on our list needs more than just prayers on Sunday; perhaps also call, , or write a note to someone you have been praying for on the list to let them know you are doing that # 3 Pray the Anglican Cycle of Prayer daily we only list the places to be prayed for on that Sunday, but each day of the week has additional places that covet the prayers of the whole church; you can Vind the full list at # 4 Pray the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer more fully we list the places to be prayed for that entire week, but the Diocese requests additionally that we pray each week for the Lutheran, Anglican, Roman Catholic and United Methodist dioceses, synods and conferences in Virginia and their bishops # 5 Pray for activities listed in the parish calendar even though these are not specivically on the prayer list, they need our prayers too; pray for the leaders and participants of all of the activities listed in the bulletin # 6 RePlect on the Trinity Mission Statement daily Our mission at Trinity Church is to be a community of thinking, caring, and giving Christians ; ask yourself to what extent you are living it out in your life # 7 Meditate on hymn texts while hymn texts are not printed in our bulletins, most can be found online at or by searching on Youtube # 8 Write on your bulletin take sermon notes or circle activities you plan to attend during the week; leave it out at home as a helpful reminder # 9 Take a copy to a friend share the word about Trinity and tell them what about the service, readings, sermon, hymns, or an activity was especially meaningful for you; invite them to join you next week; they ll Vind the church web address on it if they want to check us out more in advance # 10 Recycle it when you re Vinally done with it, don t forget to be a good steward of God s resources Yours in Christ,!!2

4 Search Committee Responses to Group Discussion Questions by Susan Laing A compilation of all the responses from the discussion groups as well as the online answers are in the book in the parish hall with all the survey results. We had a good turnout each Sunday and greatly appreciate everyone's participation. Below is a short report for all three questions for those of you who don't want to read the 100+ answers in the book. Question #1 - What has been your most meaningful experience at Trinity? EfM, Cursillo, Family Worship service, Holy Eucharist, challenging environment, inclusivity, outreach, sunrise service, supportive and caring community... Question #2 - What would you like Trinity to look like in Vive years? Continued warm, inclusive community, more young families, more spiritual, continued involvement in outreach to local community, stay pretty much the same, strengthen youth program, elevator in parish hall, increased Vinancial security... Question #3 - what do you want and/or are you looking for in a new rector? Spiritual, inspirational sermons, good listener, pastoral, sense of humor, be able to bridge the diversity of political/social/ethical and moral points of view, compassionate, good with children... With all the information we have gathered from the surveys and group discussions, we will now begin the challenging task of writing a provile that truly captures the diverse and unique community that we know as Trinity.!4

6 Notes from your Senior Warden: by Harold Beebout Our Evensong service last evening was absolutely wonderful. It was a great opportunity to worship our God with soaring music in a beautiful setting in community with our friends. And, it was nice to see our sanctuary full. Your vestry would like to see more people in our pews each Sunday. Please make an effort bring someone with you next Sunday it could be someone you haven t seen in church recently or a friend down the road. The vestry received an update on the status of our Boy Scouts. One group of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts are remaining under Trinity s charter and another group will be under a new charter at Reynolds. The split is being done cooperatively with the goal of keeping Scouting available for all boys in Rappahannock. We thank our Scout leaders who work hard to make these opportunities available. We are awed by the time and talent devoted to Trinity and related ministries the dried Vlower and house tour preparations, the upcoming Halloween blow out for kids of all ages, and the newly spruced up front porch of Trinity House to name a few of many.!6

8 The Third & Final Installment on Lynn Ellen & Bill Queen: The Road to Trinity The conclusion of Lynn Ellen and Bill's story Vinds Bill in his Virst full-time position as a priest. Jacksonville Beach s St. Paul s-by-the-sea (three blocks away from the Atlantic) called Bill to be their Associate Rector where he served for three years. The parish had a day school that Thomas and Anna attended, so Bill was occasionally able to ride with them to work and school on their bicycles along the beach. Bill s next call was to be Rector of St. Barnabas in Richmond (south of the James River, in the Diocese of Southern Virginia). One major undertaking there was the conversion of the parish's unused rectory into an ecumenical ministry offering a transitional home for single mothers with children. Thomas, and later Philip, were at that time singing in the Choir of Men and Boys at All Saints Church in Richmond. Lynn Ellen took them for their every-other Sunday singing, and Bill took them for their twice-a-week rehearsals, so All Saints became a second church home for the family. After Vive years at St. Barnabas, it was a natural transition for Bill to become Associate Rector at All Saints (north of the James, in the Diocese of Virginia). Bill's thirteen years at All Saints included a two-year interim period between Rectors, with Bill the only priest on staff for one year of that time. Experiencing Virsthand the importance of the interim period, and in consultation with Mary Thorpe, the Director of Transition Ministry at the Diocese of Virginia, Bill received Interim Ministry certivication through the Center for Congregational Health, based in Winston-Salem. Trinity is Bill s Virst call as an Interim Rector; both he and Lynn Ellen feel blessed to be with us. We believe the feeling is mutual.!8

First coat of wall paint is being applied. - bathrooms have been tiled - baseboard and damaged Vloor boards have been repaired - interior doors have been set - plantings around foundation have been either trimmed or removed - some box bushes along entry walkway are being transplanted to the hedge along the street.!9

10 Meditation Corner from Henri J. M. Nouwen Bread for the Journey When we speak about the Holy Spirit, we speak about the breath of God breathing in us. The Greek word for spirit is pneuma, which means breath. We are seldom aware of our breathing. It is so essential for life that we only think about it when something is wrong with it. The Spirit of God is like our breath. God s Spirit is more intimate to us than we are to ourselves. We might not often be aware of it, but without it we cannot live a spiritual life. It is the Holy Spirit of God who prays in us, who offers us the gifts of love, forgiveness, kindness, goodness, gentleness, peace, and joy. It is the Holy Spirit who offers us the life that death cannot destroy.!10

11 Helen Reports by Helen Williams Preliminary gross receipts from the Floral Art Sale/House Tour/Evensong/ Reception stand at $11,000. Thanks to all who contributed in any way to this Vifty-ninth endeavor, which has provided help to the parish, the county, the nation and the world over the years with its charities. From the moment the Virst seeds go in the ground, until the deposit goes in the bank, a great many people have had a part in this and we appreciate every one, even the unknown ones who put vases on the table, or wires in Vlowers, and never say a word. Next year is our 60th!!!!! Turkey Match Please donate frozen turkeys. Drop them off at the Food Pantry, not at Social Service as in the past. The Food Pantry will be ready to receive frozen turkeys anytime in November. Their drop off days are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays anytime, but they prefer mornings (because it s before clients get there). Food Pantry number : These turkeys will be matched with all of the Vixin s by a generous donor. Nov. 8 and 15th African Team Ministries items will be for sale in the Parish Hall Nov. 15 Men s Corporate Breakfast after the 8 AM Service contact person is Beth!11

12 Boy Scouts and Trinity As the Chartering Organization for Troop 36 and Pack 123, we at Trinity have a very special relationship to these boys and their leaders. Even though many of them are not members of our congregation, they are part of our family," and consequently we have a responsibility towards them. For this reason, we hope to have an article each month in the newsletter so we can get to know these boys and young men. Then when we see any of them around the county, we will be able to interact with them as we would with any members of our family. Over the Columbus Day weekend the scouts went to Deltaville for camping, boating and Vishing. Nov. 10 USMC Birthday Celebration 6:00pm in the Parish Hall!12
