Matthew 25:34-36 You might be surprised by the number of literature requests we get from Seventh-day Adventists in prison. Praise the Lord that they are asking for the materials! We also get many requests from non-sda s as well. The devil causes all sorts of turmoil in our lives and we can be very thankful that we are not in prison ourselves, but the day may be coming very soon. Hope International sends out Bibles, books, tracts and other Bible study helps and materials to prisoners all across the nation. 3 Hope International Camp Meeting We have bowed to the pressure, and will again begin our camp meeting program. For the beginning, we will start by having a camp meeting on the Hope International grounds on June 13-15, In the upcoming Newsletters and Our Firm Foundation magazine and on the website, we will announce the speakers and messages. Rooms at our dormitory will be in very short supply, so you will want to call early to reserve a room, if you plan to stay on the grounds here at Hope. We look forward to spending a glorious weekend with all who would like to fellowship with us. See you there! Hope International 3

4 World Evangelism as I m sure you can imagine, we receive literally thousands of requests for assistance from foreign lands. Anywhere from food and clothing to assistance for college. We are very careful what we send to whom, so that many might be helped, and that we are god stewards of the Lord s funds. We do work in Africa, Malaysia, Panama, Philippines, India, Canada, Mexico, Czechoslovakia, Latvia, and many others, too numerous to mention. In some countries, it is literature, in others, it is food and clothing, in others, it is publication equipment. We are very careful that we send support to only those that we know are doing the actual work they claim. You can rest assured that the funds you donate to Missions and General Funds & Offerings are going to help support workers, many who are struggling under intense pressures from poverty, disease, and the temptations of the devil to give up. We get reports not only from individuals, but also from the website hosting company, of the numerous individuals in countries that are identified as receiving information from us. 6 I Still Know Who You Are! It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80 s, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor s appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer s disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now. I was surprised, and asked him, And you still go every morning, even though she doesn t know who you are? He smiled as he patted my hand and said, She doesn t know me, but I still know who she is. I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arms, and thought, That is the kind of love I want in my life. We would love to have you send them in, with the source information, (what magazine or paper the info came from and the date) so that we might consider it for our Newswatch section of Our Firm Foundation magazine, or the Good News Newsletter. Our eyes can read and find only so much, but if there were hundreds who were using their eyes as they run across information that is interesting to them, and send it in, we could have a veritable army of correspondents out there working together to bring all of us a greater understanding of the world we live in. We have all found items of interest. Now we can share them with the rest of the world. Please send in your material and we will pick several items each month and put them in the magazine and/or Newsletter, and maybe also on our website. 9 When Did You Last Tell God What to Do? A lot of wives like Martha, for they are busy too: She was so very anxious, her housework well to do. She welcomed her dear Saviour, into her home with joy: She kept the place in order, and did her gifts employ. The churches need their Marthas, respectable to be: They hold things all together, in gracious unity. The Saviour loved dear Martha; the Bible tells us so: Although she envied Mary, Christ had something to show. Our duties may distract us, and work may interfere: Our business oft prevents us, agendas now to clear. Take time to look to Jesus, and sit at His dear feet: Forget those seeming pressures, and make your life complete. The humble tasks do beckon, for help from other folks: But we should be more patient, before we have a stroke. We dare not tell our Master, how He should solve our need: He bids us let Him teach us; His words we ought to heed. To spend more time (like Mary), His good part we may learn: Then life will be more pleasant and take a sweeter turn. REL

Even if your church does not have a directory, if you know the member s names and addresses, send them in. We will send all of them a complimentary DVD and the health catalog. Do you want your friends to prosper and have good health? Send in their names and let us send them an opportunity to live a healthier, happier life! Ralph Larson Memorial Dr. Ralph S. Larson passed away on Sunday, August 19, Some of you probably knew or might remember Ralph Larson. He was an outstanding evangelist for years and pastor for Central SDA Church in Honolulu. He was an exceptional teacher, beloved by all students. He earned his Ph.D. at Andover Newton Theological Seminary. He later became the pastor of the Campus Hill Church in Loma Linda before he was appointed head of the theological department at our Adventist University of the Philippines. Dr. Larson was a prolific author of periodical articles and several outstanding books. He had written many, many articles for Our Firm Foundation magazine and was a very good friend to many of the board and staff here at Hope. He had put together tracts and books that Hope International still sells. He will be sorely missed. He was willing to take a stand when few others would stand with him. The board and staff of Hope International extend their condolences to Ralph s wife and family. Praise the Lord we have the hope that, if faithful, we will see Ralph again. 10 Good News Newsletter September - October

12 Bible Doctrines on DVD By God s grace, we plan to begin a series of DVDs that will deal with all of the doctrines of our faith. The traits that we inherit, are never worth our praise: We have to yield to Jesus and learn to walk His ways. Just saying to the Saviour, I do believe the Word, Is really insufficient, and often quite absurd. We need to live it daily, surrender all our pride: The Lord has strength to give us, and all our past to hide. Repent of all transgression, and put to death self s rule: God s grace can make us perfect, as students in His school. REL
