THE FRUIT OF LOVE: HOW TO LIVE YOUR MOST PRODUCTIVE LIFE WEEK 2 Damon Life Group
Last Week You CAN have it all! You can work harder, play harder, and multitask your way to squeezing 31 hours of activity into a 24 hour day BUT WITH A PRICE? We are more burned-out, stressed-out, and over-extended than ever THE AMERICAN DREAM replacement has replaced ownership Never reach the finish line, or place of contentment In Romans 8, Paul gives us the formula for a truly PRODUCTIVE life and the need to tap into the power of the Holy Spirit
Fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:22-25 The Fruit of the Spirit Love Joy Peace Patience Kindness Gentleness Faithfulness Self-control Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature, its passions and desires. Since we live by the Sprit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.
Today: The Fruit of Love How does our culture define LOVE? How does God s Word define LOVE? How are we doing (as a Church) when it comes to LOVING one another? As a whole, we do a better job LOVING ourselves The problem is that we have been commanded to love your neighbor as
Love & Marriage I would go out on a limb to say that the biggest reason I see couples divorce is a misconception of or an unwillingness to LOVE I hear things like, I m just not IN LOVE with them anymore or we fell in LOVE many years ago, but I have not felt that way about them for years AP article last month revealed wedded couples now 48% of households! Unmarried couples living together has jumped 13% since 2009 Attitudes about marriage are changing about 39% of Americans say marriage is becoming obsolete (Pew Research Center) up from 28% in 1978
Love is Action Video Jose Matt 5:38-48 Let s hear it from The Message Tate recently preached on I Cor. 13 (the Love Chapter ) Let me read that chapter to you from The Message Listen carefully to how God defines this first fruit of the Spirit
Today s Points to Access the Spirit s Fruit of Supernatural Love God has called you to love (I John 4:7) The kind of love God has for you is supernatural (John 15:9) The indwelling of the Spirit is the source of supernatural love (I John 4:7-8, 12; Galatians 5:22) To access the Spirit s fruit of supernatural love, abide in Christ (I John 15:9)

God s Call is for us to Love with His kind of Love Agape When we love like God loves, it is a mark that we are His disciples read John 13:34-35 This is an interesting new command that Jesus gives His disciples in his final hours with them What was the context of this verse? Look at the first verse of this chapter (13:1) having loved his own he now showed them the full extent of His love.
Follow God s Love: Intimate & Active Even as he stared into his fate at Golgotha, He continued to love them (even as the betrayed, fell asleep, denied, and ran from him) Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us John 13:34-35 A new command I give to you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. God has called you to love and that love is intimate AND active!
The Kind of Love God has for you is Supernatural Read John 15:9a&b As the Father has loved me, so I have loved you Here, we have a picture of the love Christ has received from His Father and how this was the model for His love for us God did not just love the Son, look how much he loved us read I John 4:9-10 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
Since God so loved us We just read about the extent of God s love for us the next verse tells us what our response to His love should be Read I John 4:11 Dear friends, since God loved us, we ought to love one another. You can not give what you have not received If you are in a spot where you find it hard to love someone the way the Bible has called you to love, go back to the first part of v.11 and experience how much God loves you
Today s Points to Access the Spirit s Fruit of Supernatural Love God has called you to love (I John 4:7) The kind of love God has for you is supernatural (John 15:9) The indwelling of the Spirit is the source of supernatural love (I John 4:7-8, 12; Galatians 5:22) To access the Spirit s fruit of supernatural love, abide in Christ (I John 15:9)
The Spirit is THE Source of Supernatural Love Loving the way God has called us to love is IMPOSSIBLE through the flesh It is a SUPERNATURAL love that can only be given through the power of a supernatural God Read I John 4:7-8, 12 Born of God Appears in 2:29; 3:9; 5:1,4,18 and reminds us of John 1:13; 3:3-8 that talks of being born of God and knows God To know Him is to have an intimate relationship with Him to know Him experientially does not love does not know God When we are born of God and intimately know Him, we WILL LOVE because God is love They are called the Fruit of the Spirit because the flesh can not produce them we must be born of God and know God
Accessing Supernatural Love We just looked at I John 4:7-8, let s revisit v. 9 one more time This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into he world THAT WE MIGHT LIVE THROUGH HIM. Love is an ACTION, it is also deeply RELATIONAL I John 4:7 just spoke to the fact that to love we must KNOW GOD ( everyone who loves is born of God and KNOWS God ) But here is the interesting thing we don t just know Him, He KNOWS us fully! To know and be known by God and to love and be loved by God is deeply INTIMATE and this is coupled with corresponding love in ACTION When we abide in Him and He in us, we have access to a supernatural power than allows us to demonstrate the Fruit of LOVE in a supernatural way
Plugging In How did you get to know your spouse, your best friend, your kids, etc? 4-Letter word TIME Time in His Word Time with Him in prayer Time with Him in confession Time with Him in obedience The ultimate productive life can only be lived by plugging in to the supernatural power intended for your life by abiding in Him
Today s Points to Access the Spirit s Fruit of Supernatural Love God has called you to love (I John 4:7) The kind of love God has for you is supernatural (John 15:9) The indwelling of the Spirit is the source of supernatural love (I John 4:7-8, 12; Galatians 5:22) To access the Spirit s fruit of supernatural love, abide in Christ (I John 15:9)
