1 ASSOCIATE PASTOR WORSHIP & FIRST STEPS Faith Baptist Fellowship 601 W 57 th St. Sioux Falls, SD search@faithsf.com The Associate Pastor of Worship & First Steps is a full-time position, reporting to the Senior Pastor and the Elder Council of Faith Baptist Fellowship in Sioux Falls, SD. This pastor plans, coordinates, and leads weekly Sunday morning worship services based on biblical themes in cooperation with the preaching pastor. The Associate Pastor also oversees our First Steps ministries which include Sunday morning hospitality, guest follow-up, and our general assimilation process including our membership classes. DUTIES: 1. To design, shape, and lead gospel-centered, Christ-honoring worship services through music and singing 2. To recruit and oversee worship team personnel, including worship leaders, vocalists, and instrumentalists as needed 3. To provide mentoring for emerging leaders and current ministry leaders 4. To oversee and coordinate worship logistics, including communion, ushers, greeters and audio/visual personnel (the Tech Coordinator will report to this Associate Pastor) 5. To further research, develop, and evaluate membership class curricula and guide facilitation of membership classes, and to oversee the hospitality and assimilation process 6. To participate in the formulation of budget items reflective of ministry responsibilities 7. To perform pastoral responsibilities, including preaching, weddings, funerals, care, and counseling as needed 8. At the request of the Elders and/or Senior Pastor, to take on special projects for greater effectiveness in our First Steps or Worship ministry or the church as a whole 9. Fully participate in weekly staff meeting, and joyfully work with other staff for the health and benefit of the body of Christ at Faith

2 QUALIFICATIONS: A strong testimony of personal faith in Jesus Christ, including a growing and tenderhearted current walk with God Commitment to the Bible as the sole authoritative guide for faith and life A member of (or willingness to become a member of) Faith Baptist Fellowship, in agreement with our Covenant and Statement of Faith Meets biblical qualifications for pastoral leadership (1 Tim. 3:1-7, Titus 1:6-9) NOTE: Faith Baptist holds to a complementarian view of pastoral leadership (1 Tim. 2:12) and will only consider men for this position. Has spiritual gifts and passion for leadership, teaching, and evangelism A willingness to serve God, the body, leadership, and staff of Faith with an eye toward its growth in grace, unity, and kingdom impact, all for the glory of God Education and experience are flexible, with the following preferences: M.Div. or M.A. in Bible, theology, ministry, or church music preferred At least a college degree with a biblical/theological/ministry emphasis and some music education A minimum of five years experience in local church leadership A demonstrated interest and effectiveness in the careful handling of God s word and the gospel A demonstrated proficiency and effectiveness in musical ability

A PASTOR WITH GIFTS and abilities to lead our congregation to the throne of God for adoration, exaltation, and praise in an atmosphere of humility, joy, and biblical faithfulness; a leader able to create a God-centered, Christ-honoring atmosphere of corporate worship which lends itself to the preaching and teaching of the Bible. A variety of music should be utilized, including music which appeals to the next generation of young people, as well as the great hymns and songs of the church, but all with distinct, gospel-oriented, biblically faithful lyrics, so that worshippers are united not by style or entertainment but by the truth of the gospel itself, magnifying the glory of God through our praise. A MUSICAL PERSON able to marshal the forces of our volunteer talent at Faith, along with other key elements, such as technology, to the end that powerful, Christ-exalting worship takes place in our Sunday morning services. This person may not lead every Sunday, but will often lead and sometimes utilize other capable leaders. This pastor will oversee the song choices to assure appropriateness, plan rehearsals to assure the preparedness and quality of our musical and technical aspects of worship, and serve as champion in the area of music and worship. A PASTOR ABLE TO TEACH, with a heart for biblically faithful ministry, sound doctrine, careful handling of Scripture, and wise application of it. AN ORGANIZED PERSON to work with our First Steps Ministry Group, which is the primary welcome and assimilation ministry at Faith, including the Faith Explored (membership) class. This person will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, be capable of dealing with the public, members, and staff of Faith Baptist, and have a keen ability to function as a catalyst for assimilation in a growing church. A PEOPLE PERSON with excellent interpersonal skills and wisdom in working with volunteers and navigating the challenging environment of worship in today s church. A TEAM PLAYER who loves being part of the church, working with other staff, and living a cross-centered life.

The church began as a Bible study meeting in a nursing home. Today, Faith Baptist meets in two separate locations in the city, seeking to have the widest possible impact for the gospel in Sioux Falls. We are affiliated with Converge Worldwide (formerly called the Baptist General Conference) and are part of the Heartland District of Converge. Our south campus is located at the prominent intersection of 57 th and Minnesota Ave. This facility has a 400-seat worship space, a generous Fellowship Hall, a full Christian education wing, and offices for our staff. Our new west-side location meets in a leased space in the growing neighborhoods of west Sioux Falls about 15 minutes from the south campus. In total,

5 Faith Baptist sees well over 400 in weekly attendance across both locations with a growing membership of about 300. ABOUT OUR MUSIC & WORSHIP MINISTRY Faith Baptist Fellowship is blessed to have many gifted and humble servants to assist in leading worship every Sunday. We have approximately volunteer instrumentalists and vocalists who have a wide variety of skills. Our typical Sunday morning praise team consists of piano, guitar, bass, drums and 2-3 vocalists. We like to also include additional instruments like horns or strings whenever available. Our style is mainly contemporary though we appreciate traditional elements. We strive for vibrant, uplifting, and participatory worship. We want our congregation to hear one another singing! Our musical influences for the last several years have been a balanced mix of Sovereign Grace Music, Keith and Kristyn Getty, Matt Boswell,

6 Matt Papa, Chris Tomlin, Matt Redman, Vertical Worship, Hillsong, City Alight, etc. We also seek to regularly incorporate familiar hymns that are gospel-focused and Christ-centered. Faith Baptist is also blessed to have an adult choir. We have a gifted choir director and accompanist who works with our singers each week between September and April. During these months the choir sings once per month vocally assisting the praise team in leading congregational worship and performing a special anthem for the congregation. The choir also prepares a special presentation of 5-6 songs for Christmas and Easter. ABOUT OUR COMMUNITY We love our city! Sioux Falls is a growing, vibrant, progressive city in America s heartland. There are several universities and colleges within a few minutes of Faith Baptist, including Augustana University and the University of Sioux Falls. Large banking institutions, along with government and education, have fueled job growth in our area. Two large, and expanding, hospital systems are quickly making Sioux Falls a healthcare hub for the upper midwest. Downtown Sioux Falls continues to be a growing attraction with many new restaurants and shopping not to mention beautiful Falls Park! The new 12,000-seat Sanford Premier Center brings sold-out concerts and other big events to the city. Sioux Falls has great public schools as well as a top-notch Christian school and many options for homeschool families to network
