2 First Baptist Church 305 South Perry Street Montgomery, AL p: f: w: To Southern Baptist pastors, pastoral staff, full-time denominational workers, chaplains, and vocational evangelists: On November 14, 2018, Grace Thornton wrote an article in SBCLIFE, War Room Prayer Ministry Changes Culture of Montgomery Church. The article described the prayer ministry of First Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama and referenced a prayer plan. We have had many pastors and churches request the prayer plan, or contact us about helping their church start a prayer ministry. As a member of the prayer committee of First Baptist Church Montgomery and a member of the executive committee of the Southern Baptist Convention, it is my privilege on behalf of the FBC Prayer Committee to share the War Room Prayer During Worship Prayer Plan with you and your church. 3 THE PURPOSE: Corporate War Room Prayer To Bring Glory to God 1 Peter 4:11 (NASB)...so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. To Have the Church be called a House of Prayer as commanded by Jesus THE MISSION: Matthew 21:13 (NASB) And He said to them, It is written, MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED A HOUSE OF PRAYER. To Pray Fervently for the Repentance of Lost Souls Luke 13:3 (NASB) I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. To Pray Consistently for Revival of the Church Psalm 85:6 (NASB) Will You not Yourself revive us again, That Your people may rejoice in You? THE STRUCTURE: Identify a group of people with a passion for intercessory prayer who are willing to pray through and fast to hear from the Lord as to the exact prayer strategy for their individual church. This group should be expanded as the Lord leads and with the approval of the senior pastor. Solicit the full support and participation of the senior pastor and his staff. Engage each deacon in taking a leadership role in the prayer ministry. This can be accomplished by having a prayer ministry leader attend a deacons meeting and explain the expectations for each deacon s participation. Involve members of each Bible Study Fellowship Class. Practical Means of Implementation Sunday Service Prayer at the Altar Before each Sunday morning church service begins, church members are encouraged to prayer on the church altar, as lead by the Holy Spirit. Sunday Worship Prayer Room During our Sunday morning worship services, corporate prayer is held in a room

4 designated as our War Room of Prayer. The purpose of this prayer time is to pray for repentance and salvation of lost souls who attend the service; to pray for revival within the church; and to pray for the participants in the worship service. This time of prayer is led by a member of the prayer ministry who uses a specific order of prayer and a prayer plan. See page 5 for a suggested order of prayer and prayer plan. Following his offertory prayer in the church service, the deacon of the day joins the members of his Bible Study Fellowship Class; plus the prayer ministry leader to pray for the ongoing service. Wednesday Evening Prayer Meeting A time of prayer lead by the senior pastor following the Wednesday night church family dinner. Monthly War Room On the first Wednesday of each month, from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. on the altar of main sanctuary, the church membership is called into a focused prayer time. This prayer time is lead by a prayer ministry member and attended by the senior pastor, the church staff, and members of the congregation. This has proven to be a very powerful time of prayer. Weekly Prayer Room Intercessory prayer, staffed by church members, in one-hour increments throughout the week to pray for specific prayer requests of church members and of numerous missionaries, church planters, and chaplains. Special Events Corporate Prayer Room THE POWER: Corporate prayer lead by prayer ministry members interceding together while special evangelical and outreach events are simultaneously being held at the church. Praying God s Word in Unity is Extremely Effective in times of Corporate Prayer as confirmed by this scripture Isaiah 55:11 So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing What I desire And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. Additional Training: A 6-week discipleship training designed to strengthen each participant in his personal spiritual growth in areas of prayer, purity, and purpose, is also available upon request through the First Baptist Church Montgomery Prayer Ministry.

5 Guidelines for Corporate Intercessory Prayer Time is very limited so our prayers on EACH SUBJECT should be 1 to 2 minutes per person. Incorporate God s Word into our prayers as much as possible. Isaiah 55:11 - So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. Remember that the focus of our prayer time is the church service; personal prayer requests should be handled in each Bible Fellowship Class. One can participate in Corporate Intercessory Prayer without praying OUT LOUD in the group! Since this time is dedicated to the Lord we want to honor Him by being on time; putting the needs of others before our own and being united in prayer. Philippians 2:2-4 - fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. PRAISE Outer Court Prayer Plan Psalm 103:1-5 Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget all his benefits: who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with lovingkindess and tender mercies, who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle s. THANKSGIVING THROUGH THE BLOOD OF JESUS Bronze Altar John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming, and said, Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world! TIME OF CONFESSION Bronze Laver Psalm 139:23-24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. IN HIS PRESENCE Holy Place - Holy of Holies Revelation 4:8, 11 Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come! You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for you created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.

6 THE ARMOR OF GOD Spiritual Armor Ephesians 6:10-20 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints-and for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. INTERCESSION Intercede for others and petition for your own needs. Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. Please pray for the following elements of our Worship Service Pastoral Staff Protection Psalm 91:11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. Wisdom Psalm 119:66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe Your commandments. Boldness in proclaiming the Gospel Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness. Support Personnel (choir, orchestra, pianist, organist, special music presenters and speakers, etc.) That each of these would help set the tone for Worship Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

7 Congregation For each individual to have attentive ears Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. To be receptive to what the Lord is speaking 1 Samuel 3:9 Therefore Eli said to Samuel, Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, Speak, LORD, for Your servant hears. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. To be filled with the Holy Spirit so that they will be equipped to accomplish everything that the Lord has for them to do Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. Altar Call for Non-Believers To admit that they are a sinner Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. For them to believe that Jesus is the son of God John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Acts 16:31 So they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household. That they will call upon the name of the Lord (Call means to confess) Romans 10:9-10, 13 That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved. Altar Call for Carnal Christians Conviction of sin and repentance Psalm 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear. Psalm 51:10-11 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Please feel free to pray additional prayers as led by the Holy Spirit.
