2 PAGE 2 THE GOOD NEWS A PASTORAL POINT OF VIEW... THE SEARCH FOR A NEW PASTOR The story of CCC is not just about preserving the past it is also about embracing the future. And so, let me ask you: Do you believe God is building a future for CCC? If so, then here is one crucial matter of concern that you must be willing to consider in your present search process: As a church family, you are getting older every day. And so, as a matter of practical concern, how can CCC get younger even just one generation younger? And what kind of change might be necessary in order for this to happen? How can you as a church family not only survive but thrive as you look to 2020 and beyond? Well, if you are to thrive, then you must first believe that God has a particular vision for you a vision that sees the reality of God s Presence God is with you and for you and is, in fact, alive in you! And so, as you contemplate this new season of opportunity in seeking a new Pastor for your church family, what kinds of goals and priorities should you identify in addressing the change that is necessary in order for you to grow younger as a church family? In this season of new beginnings, what kind of church might God be calling CCC to become and what might God be inviting CCC to do? How might God be preparing CCC to receive the new Pastor that he will send to you? As you engage in the search for a new pastor, it will be helpful to identify as well as acknowledge the expectations each of you have for your new pastor. But while some of your expectations are certainly valid and sensible, there may be others that are totally unrealistic. While you can be hopeful in calling a Senior Pastor who is gifted by God to do a variety of ministry tasks very well, it is futile to think that you can find a perfect Pastor who can satisfy everyone and who is the best at doing everything. And so, I encourage you to consider this: Instead of being guided by your individual expectations for a new Pastor, what would it mean for you to consider what person might be best for CCC as you submit yourselves to God s vision for the church life you presently share together with all the members and friends of CCC? And the beat goes on... In this season of new beginnings, our journey with God continues. Let s continue to pray and ask the Lord s blessing on us as we trust the Lord to guide us on our journey. Let s pray for our Search Committee as they seek God s guidance in calling a new Senior Pastor to CCC. Let s believe that God has prepared a person/couple who will be just the right choice for Central Christian Church. And, as we continue to pray for our own individual spiritual renewal, may we also ask the Lord to awaken all of us to the new opportunities that God is now giving us as a church family the kinds of opportunities that will renew and revitalize us as a church. Let s always remember that the story of our salvation is not just about our past; the story of our salvation is also about our future! And yet, as much as some things may change, there are those things that remain the same: as Central Christian Church, the Lord has called us to discover and develop a life and love relationship with God through worship, discipleship, fellowship, and ministry. Thanks be to God! The Lord be with you, Dr. Wyatt E Fenno LUNCH AND BIBLE STUDY It seems life keeps getting busier and busier these days despite our best efforts to keep it simple. Why not take a mid-week pause that refreshes? Every Wednesday at noon, a group meets in room 101 to have lunch, reflect on the Word of God and pray. So pack a bag lunch and head on over to the church, Wednesdays at noon. We d love for you to join us.

3 MAY 2016 VOLUME 104, ISSUE 5 PAGE 3 SUNDAY PICNIC ON THE CHURCH LAWN JUNE 5 AFTER WORSHIP Last year s picnic was such fun and a great hit with everyone. So guess what? We re going to do it again! Bubba s fried chicken will be back as the star of the menu and everyone is invited to bring your favorite traditional picnic side in a disposable container for serving and discarding once the picnic is over. Easiest clean up ever! Containers will be available for you to pick up in Fellowship Hall on Sunday May 29th after worship. A few ideas for sides include potato salad, pea salad, coleslaw, watermelon, baked beans, you know the usual. Bubba s will provide rolls. We will need some cookies and/or bars for desserts. Lawn games will be available like badminton, croquet and corn hole. If you just want to be lazy, you can loll around and visit in the sprawl of the Bois D arc tree. 4 PAGE 4 THE GOOD NEWS SENIOR PASTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE UPDATE We thank everyone who attended the recent Town Hall meeting on May 15. As mentioned during the meeting, the Search Committee is finalizing our church profile and looking forward to receiving pastor profiles from prospective candidates. We ask everyone to continue praying for the individual God is preparing to serve as our new Senior Minister. If you have input, questions or concerns, please visit with any of the committee members: Valda Dracopoulos, Shelia Huffman, Barbara Williams, John Davenport, Michael Raines, Brian Worthington, or Tyson Woods. CHURCH SERVICE AT FOWLER HOMES On Sunday, June 26th, Disciples Women's Ministries will be leading the church service at 3:00 PM for the people at Juliette Fowler Homes. We had a wonderful service last year and expect to do as well, if not better, this year. We'll need as many elders and deacons as possible (several to serve communion to those who cannot leave their rooms) as well as those who will serve at the table. Before the service it is really nice to get acquainted with those who live there. They all have stories to tell, which are most interesting. So, please come a little early. The service is being put together now, so if you are asked to participate, please say, "Yes, I'd love to!" NEW SUNDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY A new Bible will begin on Sunday, June 5th, in room 207. The class will begin at 9:45 AM. We will use as a guide the book, "I Am a Church Member" by best-selling author and ministry leader, Thom S. Rainer. Using Scripture as its foundation, this book focuses on the attitudes and responsibilities of healthy church membership while addressing what is expected of those who join a body of believers. When a person's attitude is consistently biblical and healthy, matters of giving, serving, and so forth will fall into place more naturally. Six intentional chapters with study questions will guide us in our discussion: 1. I Will Be a Unifying Church Member 2. I Will Not Let the Church Be About My Preferences and Desires 3. I Will Pray for My Church Leaders 4. I Will Lead My Family to Be Healthy Church Members 5. I Will Be a Functioning Member 6. I Will Treasure Church Membership as a Gift All are welcome to join in this thought-provoking and lifechanging study.
