At the end of April we celebrated our SERVE 13 day of service, where 800 College Parkers served around our city in the name of Jesus and the Gospel. As we move into May and look ahead to next fall, I want to focus your attention on the opportunities to embracing your calling and serve within our church body. God has given spiritual gifts to the church to use for building up His church (see 1 Corinthian 12:4-11). This means He has specifically equipped you to play a role in igniting a passion to follow Jesus. He s equipped us to go beyond worship in community to serve and embrace a calling in community. If you re like me, I put a good deal of time into planning and thinking about my daily schedule, my family activities, and my vacations. As you prepare for summer vacations, are you just as intentional in prayerfully thinking and planning how your family will be serving this fall? HOW HAS GOD EQUIPPED YOU AND YOUR FAMILY TO SERVE? Here s a snapshot of one such area to serve, in which I have a role in shepherding: Sunday School at the Park. We average 40 new children visitors per week and over 1,000 total children from babies to teens every Sunday that s bigger than the majority of churches in America! It takes 240 classroom volunteers each and every Sunday to make this happen. Starting May 5 and through the summer, the Children s Ministry team would love to talk with you about where you would plug into our Children s Ministry volunteer team. We need your help. Beyond our Children s Ministry, we have lots of other opportunities. Special Needs Buddies Be a buddy for an adult or child on Sundays Compassion Help provide meals & support for hurting First Hands Ministry Hospitality, welcoming newcomers, evangelism Local Outreach Going beyond your SERVE 13 project to make a long-term impact Communication Help with writing/editing, design, social media, or administrative projects TAKE THE NEXT STEP Join the Children s Ministry team at yourchurch.com/volunteeratthepark Visit the Serving Hub to see a complete list of volunteer roles at yourchurch.com/servinghub
Can you imagine the apostle Paul in cowboy boots and a ten-gallon hat? Paul went where he was called to preach the Gospel, and did so in a way that spoke to his audience. With that in mind, it is easy to imagine that Paul would have gladly slipped on a pair of boots and a Stetson to bring Christ s message to hundreds of children. How about you? Summer at College Park brings hundreds of children for a week of activities, games, crafts, music and FUN at Vacation Bible School (VBS), and this year s theme is The Great Western Round-Up! During VBS, College Park folk with a hankerin to minister to cow-pokes will host kids from all over central Indiana during a purposeful time designed to bring children closer to Jesus. VBS at College Park is all about our Church s core statement to ignite a passion to follow Jesus. VBS does this by reaching out to our community to provide a free and exciting week for kids to hear the Gospel in a fun and loving environment. As you might expect, this outreach is not just for the kids who attend. The Gospel message delivered at VBS through Christ centered songs, teachings, and the arts, is also intended to reach the parents and families of children who attend. While VBS guarantees a good time for all involved, the week results in beautiful, life changing stories. VBS in summer 2012 resulted in: Dedicated VBS workers leading children to Christ.like Ruby Sanford leading 3rd grader Grace Sawyer at the end of a VBS lesson! Visiting kids having questions about eternity like those from Molly, a visitor to College Park for VBS. Molly came from a Catholic background and was confused about the Gospel message she heard. Her friend Emily, who invited her to VBS, continues to encourage her towards Christ. OUR kids also having questions.like one College Park youngster who did not raise her hand for counseling, but instead asked assurance questions at home. Her mom answered her questions, helping to ease her fears. How can you help with the Round-up? Well, On May 12th College Park kids (K-6th grade) will receive two VBS invitations for their friends. This is an excellent opportunity to encourage your kids and grandkids to invite their friends! Saddle-up, it s going to be a great week! BE A PART OF VBS THIS YEAR! Sign up to volunteer at yourchurch.com/vbs Beginning June 1, register your kids for VBS at yourchurch.com/servinghub

JOURNEY TO THE BIBLE S WORLD: THE EPIC QUEST OF YOUR LIFE By Dr. Jim Hamilton Becoming a biblical theologian is an epic task worthy of every human being. It goes beyond the mere reading of books on the topic, though that will aid those who join this quest. It requires a lifelong study of the Scriptures for the glory of the Father in the power of the Spirit by faith in the Son. MEET BETSY BARTEMUS She would say to get into the Word and don't be shallow. Persevere and don't give up. Life is not always easy, but He is worth it. THE TESTIMONY OF NEVA KAUFFMAN In 2 Peter, chapter 1, it says though we have all God s promises when we accept Christ, we need to add to our faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love. Then he wrote, If you have these things in increasing measure they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your Christian walk. Christ can be your perseverance.
SOMETIMES YOU WALK THE PATH BEFORE YOU SEE I TERRY & DAWN SITES short years ago. Nonetheless, we are now privileged to participate in College Park s global outreach through the India partnership. Our path to this involvement stretches over many years and includes four primary influences. INDIA IS A FASCINATING PLACE. Where else can you share the highway with cows, tractors, mule-drawn carts, bicycles, school children, a seemingly endless number of motor scooters, monkeys, and even the occasional camel? And the road noise can be daunting Indian drivers MUST use their horns constantly to warn others they are coming through. The sheer number of people is beyond description. We have been blessed to participate in two CPC vision trips to India. From our perspective, India can be overwhelming at times a nonstop sensory assault. And in all honesty, one of us (that would be Terry) would never have imagined taking these trips a few PERSONAL INVITATIONS FROM MINISTRY LEADERS TO PARTICIPATE IN THEIR MINISTRIES. Saying yes to leaders who have asked us to join them was really the start of our journey, from a family vision trip to Arizona when our children were young to KidsChurch at Brookside to participating in CPC s GO and REACH conferences. It s clear that God has used others to shine light on next steps and to grow us spiritually, and we re grateful for those leaders. DUSTIN CROWE
GLOBAL OUTREACH FRIENDSHIP WITH MISSIONARIES. We were blessed to become good friends with a missionary couple several years ago, who consistently asked us to come and see. In fact, their daughter, at the tender age of 8, explained to us the 10/40 window and why their ministry was important. This was new to us, and increased our awareness of global needs and God s work among the unreached. And since that time, we have come to know other missionary servants who encourage and challenge us out of their obedience to God s call. INVOLVEMENT IN FIRST FRIDAY PRAYER TIMES. These prayer opportunities are also learning and enrichment experiences. CPC missionaries who are in town are often in attendance, and we get to hear about ministry needs, challenges, and blessings. We also get to see how the body of Christ can be connected all across the globe. We have seen that prayer is the fuel for God s global work. And though our personal role may be small, we can nonetheless be a part of God s global work. GOD PUT SOME FACES ON GLOBAL OUTREACH. In addition to the home grown missionaries we know, we now have personal connections to Indian brothers and sisters in different-sounding places like Bhagwanpur, Patri, and Madhubani. We know people serving in village schools and orphanages, and taking the gospel to the unreached Yadav in Bihar. Our lives are richer for it. What a privilege extended to us by our awesome God! Everyone has a role to play in global missions, but sometimes you have to walk the path before you see it. God is always inviting us to Come and see what God has done the marvelous works in man s behalf. (Ps. 66:5) WHAT S YOUR NEXT STEP? Learn more about the open 2013 Vision Trips at yourchurch.com/2013visiontripinfo Call or Ron Page for more information. rpage@yourchurch.com // LOCAL OUTREACH THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED SERVE OUR CITY ON APRIL 27, especially those of you who brought a friend. You can see pictures and comments from the day on our Twitter (@CPLocalOutreach) or by searching #serve13 on Twitter & Instagram. Serving is not something you do one day to check off a box, instead service is a lifestyle. The goal of SERVE 13 is to allow College Park to get a taste for our local strategic partners as well as to provide a one day event that acts as a springboard to serving as a lifestyle. Our local outreach partners are ministries we serve alongside and support on an ongoing basis. If on SERVE 13 you enjoyed the project with which you participated, consider following up with that ministry to become more involved. All of our partners are Christcentered ministries trying to be salt and light in a city as they bring the gospel to others in word and deed. With 12 strategic partners serving a spectrum of needs and ages, there s something out there for you. While the blessing of serving others is still fresh on your mind it s a great time to take the next step. And for those of you who invited a friend to SERVE,keep building up that friendship throughout the year. Invite them to join us on a Sunday morning at College Park Church. Maximize the good summer weather by having them over to your home! LEARN MORE & STAY INVOLVED...
