It seems that the ones who should be speaking out about God s judgement have become silent in our nation. H O W T H E APOSTLES DIED. 1. Matthew Suffered martyrdom in Ethiopia, Killed by a sword wound. 2. Mark Died in Alexandria, Egypt, after being dragged by Horses through the streets until he was dead. Page 6 Volume XI No 3 March 31, Luke Was hanged in Greece as a result of his tremendous Preaching to the lost. 4. John Faced martyrdom when he was boiled in huge Basin of boiling oil during a wave of persecution In Rome. However, he was miraculously delivered From death. John was then sentenced to the mines on the prison Island of Patmos. He wrote his prophetic Book of Revelation on Patmos. The apostle John was later freed and returned to serve As Bishop of Edessa in modern Turkey. He died as an old man, the only apostle to die peacefully 5. Peter was crucified upside down on an x-shaped cross. According to church tradition it was because he told his tormentors that he felt unworthy to die In the same way that Jesus Christ had died. 6. James The leader of the church in Jerusalem, was thrown over a hundred feet down from the southeast pinnacle of the Temple when he refused to deny his faith in Christ. When they discovered that he survived the fall, his enemies beat James to death with a fuller's club. * This was the same pinnacle where Satan had taken Jesus during the Temptation. 7. James the Son of Zebedee, was a fisherman by trade when Jesus Called him to a lifetime of ministry. As a strong leader of the church, James was beheaded at Jerusalem. The Roman officer who guarded James watched amazed as James defended his faith at his trial. Later, the officer Walked beside James to the place of execution. Overcome by conviction, he declared his new faith to the judge and Knelt beside James to accept beheading as a Christian. 8. Bartholomew Also known as Nathaniel Was a missionary to Asia. He witnessed for our Lord in present day Turkey. Bartholomew was martyred for his preaching in Armenia where he was flayed to death by a whip. 9. Andrew Was crucified on an x-shaped cross in Patras, Greece. After being whipped

4 Page 7 Volume XI No 3 March 31, 2018 severely by seven soldiers they tied his body to the cross with cords to prolong his agony. His followers reported that, when he was led toward the cross, Andrew saluted it in these words: 'I have long desired and expected this happy hour. The cross has been consecrated by the body of Christ hanging on it.' He continued to preach to his tormentors For two days until he expired. 10. Thomas Was stabbed with a spear in India during one of his missionary trips to establish the church in the Sub-continent. 11. Jude Was killed with arrows when he refused to deny his faith in Christ. 12. Matthias The apostle chosen to replace the traitor Judas Iscariot, was stoned and then beheaded. 13. Paul Was tortured and then beheaded by the evil Emperor Nero at Rome in A.D. 67. Paul endured a lengthy imprisonment, which allowed him to write his many epistles to the churches he had formed throughout the Roman Empire. These letters, which taught many of the foundational Doctrines of Christianity, form a large portion of the New Testament. Perhaps this is a reminder to us that our sufferings here are indeed minor compared to the intense persecution and cold cruelty faced by the apostles and disciples during their times For the sake of the Faith. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: But he that endureth to the end shall be saved. Some humor: Dear grand-daughter, The other day I went to the local Christian book store and saw a Honk if you love Jesus bumper sticker. I was feeling particularly sassy that day because I had just come from a thrilling choir performance, followed by a thunderous Prayer meeting. So I bought the sticker and put it on my bumper. I am so glad that I did for the uplifting experience that followed. I was stopped at a red Page 8 Volume XI No 3 March 31, 2018 light at a busy intersection and I was lost in thought about the Lord and how good he is so I did not notice that the light had changed. It is a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn t honked, I d never have noticed. I found that lots of people love Jesus! While I was sitting there, the guy behind me started honking like crazy, and then he leaned out his window and screamed for the love of God Go! Go! Go! Jesus Go. What a cheerleader he was for Jesus. Then it seemed that everybody started honking. I just leaned out my window and started waving and smiling at all those loving people. I even honked my horn a few times to share in the love. There must have been a man from Florida back there because I heard him saying something about a sunny beach. I saw another man in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air. I asked my teenage grand-son what that meant. He said it was probably a Hawaiin good luck sign or something. Well, never met anyone from Hawaii, so l leaned out my window and gave him the good luck sign right back. My grandson burst out laughing. Even he was enjoying this religious experience. A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and started walking towards me. I bet they wanted to pray or ask what Church I attended, but I then noticed that the light had changed. So, grinning, I wave at all my brothers and sisters and drove through the intersection. I noticed that I was the only one to get through the intersection because the light had changed back to red. I felt kind of sad that I had to leave them all after all the love they had shared. So, I slowed the car down, leaned out the window and gave them the Hawaiin good luck sign one last time as I drove away. Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks! Love Grandpa (thanks Leon)

5 Thiefs Page 9 Volume XI No 3 March 31, 2018 Arkansas: Seems this guy wanted some beer pretty badly. He decided that he'd just throw a cinder block through a liquor store window, grab some booze, and run. So he lifted the cinder block and heaved it over his head at the window. The cinder block bounced back and hit the would-be thief on the head, knocking him unconscious. Seems the liquor store window was made of Plexi-Glass. The whole event was caught on videotape. New York: As a female shopper exited a convenience store, a man grabbed her purse and ran. The clerk called 911 immediately, and the woman was able to give the police a detailed description of the snatcher. Within minutes, the police had apprehended the snatcher. They put him in the cruiser and drove back to the store. The thief was then taken out of the car and told, "Stand there for a positive ID." To this instruction the man replied, "Yes Officer, that's her. That's the lady I stole the purse from." Washington: When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street, he got much more than he had bargained for. Police arrived at the scene to find an ill man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesperson said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline and plugged his hose into the motorhome's sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges, saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had. Kentucky: Two men tried to pull the front off an ATM by running a chain from the machine to the bumper of their pickup truck. Instead of pulling the front panel off the machine, they pulled the bumper off their truck. Scared, they left the scene and drove home--. with the chain still attached to the machine-- with their bumper still attached to the Page 10 Volume XI No 3 March 31, 2018 chain-- with their vehicle's license plate still attached to the bumper. We will be celebrating our 15 years in this location. Have you marked down this date? Have you scheduled to be off that week? This is going to be a great meeting and I really pray that you are making sure that your calendar has this marked bold and bright. March was a difficult time for our congregation. One of our deacons suffered a massive heart and died at his daughters wedding. Joey Devlin at the young age of 54 left us on March 11 at the close of his daughters wedding while cleaning up.

6 Page 11 Volume XI No 3 March 31, 2018 Many times I make a prayer request for families that have a loved one who departs this life. I want to take a little time to share with you about this gentle man that was a gentleman. As a Deacon, he served without ever making a complaint. At our meetings, Joey was the one that I could always count on for support in the work of our congregation. He not only supported me but for those who needed help, he was willing to get involved to help in any way he could. If he could not do the job, he had contacts with people that could and he was not ashamed to ask for that help. He was also a praying man. Often he would come to me asking for prayer for a friend or family member. As a Christian, he would talk with others about the Church. He would invite them to Church. I never heard him making judgement on others when he did not know them very well. Joey was not a man of many words but he was a man of action. Sometimes it would take him a little longer to do something but he would get it done. Each Lord s Day, he would be at the front door greeting everyone as they came in and giving them the bulletin for morning service. He would oversee the servers to be sure that they were in place for communion and offering time. He faithfully took communion to those who could not get to the assembly on Sunday morning His example with his family as a leader in our congregation led them to be active in the worship. They are carrying on his example in their faithful worship.. In my years of preaching, Joey would be among the top five deacons that I have been privileged to serve with. I will miss him very much. We are silent where the Bible is silent We remember the Lord s request and take the Lord's Supper on the first day of every week as the First Century Christians We wear the Christian name: "Christians" -Acts 11:26 "The Church" - Acts 14:27 "Churches of Christ" - Romans 16:16 "Church of God" - 1 Corinthians 1:2 "Church of the Firstborn" - Hebrews 12:23 We teach the Bible plan of salvation Faith in Jesus Christ Mark 16:16, John 3:16, Acts 8:37, Romans 10:17, Hebrews 11:6 Repentance Luke 13:3, Acts 2:38, 3:19 & 17:30, 2 Corinthians 7:10 Confession of faith in Christ Matthew 10:32-33, Acts 8:37, Romans 10:9-11 Immersion for the remission of sin Acts 2:38 & 22:16, Romans 6:3-7, 1 Corinthians 12:13, Galatians 3:27, Colossians 2:12, 1 Peter 3:21 We also encourage Christians to endure to the end.
