2 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The feeling I have as we enter the New Year is gratitude. I am thankful for you, and the meaningful ministry we do together! Fresh in my mind is the Christmas Concert and Christmas Eve performance by our choirs, and instrumentalists, professionally led by our Music Director, Gina Jones: truly inspiring! And there was so much prep work that went on behind the scenes to make our sanctuary beautiful, and to feed our guests. Thanks to our worship assistants, greeters, acolytes, and ushers (John Stotz did double duty!). Thank you to Angelika Domschke, who ends six years as chair of the Worship Committee! I am also thankful as I look around our well-maintained property. Each week, a crew comes out to mow, edge, trim, and fix equipment. Thanks especially to Dave LeGoullon, who repaired and painted the ceiling in our narthex and the breezeway. These property volunteers are definitely some of our unsung heroes. And Alfred Domschke, who leaves that post at the end of this year, could tell you how much work is involved. Then there are the Children s Church teachers and the leader of all our youth activities, Sarah Davis. Instructing our kids, and touching our hearts with a simple, but profound, Christmas play a couple weeks ago. The parents of these children stepped up too organizing and providing for a Polar Express children s Christmas party. Close to 20 local children, along with their parents, attended this event in the Volkmann Community Room. Our Social Ministry programs continue to impact the lives of more and more people, with Marilyn Sorenson putting in long hours. Evangelism is creatively tackling the issue of reaching out with the Gospel in a time when many have never even been inside a church! I m encouraged by that team s creativity. Behind all of this is our Church Council. Thanks to all who serve in that capacity, and for the hardest working treasurer in the Florida-Bahamas Synod, Debbie Rescott. Dr. Michael Miller also concludes his term as our congregational president Job well done! And, of course, there are many other faithful volunteers whom I ve not mentioned Thank you! The New Year ahead will bring fresh opportunities for you to be involved with the good things happening at LCR. I ask that you prayerfully consider serving in one or more of our many areas of church life. During the month of January, each week, we will lift up another area of church life and seek volunteers. Give of your time as you ve given so generously of your financial blessings. Serving the Lord is rewarding! It only gets better when we make that difference together. With Love and Respect, Pastor Jay Lisa and I would also like to say thank you for the generous congregational Christmas gift, and all the cards and gifts we received. You are such a blessing to us!!

3 Council Members Dr. Michael Miller, President Jim Stark, Vice-President Ann Fosburr, Secretary Jenn Billingham, Fellowship Alfred Domschke, Property Angelika Domschke, Worship Bill Bond, Stewardship Marilyn Sorenson, Social Ministry Kathy Lueders, Evangelism Christian Education Debbie Rescott, Treasurer (Advisor) Michelle Davis, Financial Sec. (Advisor) The Church Council meeting was held on December 11th and here are some highlights of discussions and decisions. The meeting began with a devotion and prayer led by Pastor Jay Minutes of the last meeting were reviewed and approved and the agenda for the evening was set. Pastor Jay gave his report. Financial Secretary our giving is behind where it should be for the year, but our attendance is up over last year, 10 to 15 people per Sunday. Treasurer s Report is posted in the fellowship hall and available upon request. Evangelism At the monthly Burger Bash for our pantry friends, 66 hamburgers and 24 hotdogs were served. Youth members and church families have been showing up to help with serving. A Christmas ad has been placed in the Cocoa Beach Explorer. The website is currently being reviewed and updated. New pew cards have arrived. They are a simplification of the old two card system. New church t-shirts have arrived. They will be given out to all members soon. The committee requests the submission of church activity pictures. Worship Rehearsal for the Christmas concert will be held on December 12 th. Christmas decorating will take place on the 14 th. An acolyte is needed for 7:00 p.m. worship on Christmas Eve. The committee began discussing ideas for Lenten worship in A suggestion was made that, rather than a Wednesday gathering at church, small study groups be organized by region to meet at a time agreed on by the group. Volunteer recognition of many areas of service will be held during January and February. Fellowship 85 people attended the annual Christmas party. Social time sign up sheets have been printed out for next year. Social Ministry The Cocoa Beach community has been very generous to our pantry. In fact, we have so much food that we have stopped collecting from members on Sunday morning until further notice. The number of people served grew steadily from 2016 to 2017, about 120 more per year is outpacing that growth. The Pantry Friends Christmas party will be held on December 23 rd at 2:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. We are looking forward to new windows in the pantry and the refitting of the doors. Property A letter was read from Hamilton Roofing. They have reduced their charge for the new roof over the pantry and narthex from $107,000 to $70,000! New batteries were installed in the choir loft chair lift. A proposal for a new HVAC unit in the breakroom of the Ministry Center was presented. The workers said that there was no rush to replace it, so it was tabled until the New Year. The dehumidifier was replaced in the handbell closet. Dave LeGoullon did an excellent job painting the breezeway ceilings and fixing the ceiling in the narthex. New playground equipment will be installed after Christmas. Continued on next page.

7 SOCIAL MINISTRIES AT LCR Food Pantry: The featured items for the Food Pantry are listed below: (Please bring them to the shopping cart in the Sanctuary or basket in the Fellowship Hall.) 1/6 - Packaged Cookies 1/13 - Peanut Butter 1/20 - Jelly 1/27 - Mac-n-Cheese Thank you for your gifts. We are in need of razors, deodorant, sunscreen and toothpaste. Please give from the heart. PANTRY HOURS: The first 4 Saturdays of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. BIKE MINISTRY: 2nd and 3rd Saturday of every month. 10:00-12:00 noon. Have an overflowing piggy bank at home? Share your coins with the Laundry Ministry at LCR. Each month we give the gift of clean clothes to our homeless friends and pantry clients at a local laundromat. Your coins bring smiles to many faces! We never realized that the homeless see their clothing as disposable, but it makes sense. Imagine wearing the same clothes in the heat for weeks at a time! Such clothes get to the point where they are unwearable. Now, the homeless, and those in economic distress, have a chance to wash and renew that clothing. One less shirt in a landfill, and good stewardship of God s gifts! NEEDED: The Bike Ministry are in need of new and used bikes in any condition. We can pick up your donated bike or you may drop it off. We repair them and give them to those in need in the community. LCR is doing GREAT things! Thank you for your financial support now, but have you thought about leaving a legacy in your will after you leave this world? Contact your financial consultant or church office for ideas. If you would like Resurrection to be remembered after you go to be with the Lord, be sure to name us in your will. Sadly, we ve seen survivors not honor the known wishes of the deceased. Its hard to imagine, but it happens. Thank you!
