2 SO TEACH US TO NUMBER OUR DAYS, THAT WE MAY GAIN A HEART OF WISDOM. PSALM 90:12 >KNOW THE LORD, KNOW YOUR LANE Know the Lord. Know your lane - This was something the Lord really impressed on me as the New Year started, so much so, it formed the basis of a message I shared with our CCCM family early in Psalm 90:12 was the scriptural inspiration and helped to give vision to all we undertook as a church. The Lord is indeed establishing the work of our hands, and as 2018 unfolded, He continued to show His faithfulness as we walked in the assurance of His calling on our lives as individuals and as a church. What a year it was! God did some amazing things. We ll never be able to fully capture all that He accomplished throughout our church community, but once again, I wanted to give you a snapshot of the work of the Spirit in our church. As you browse these pages, it s a reminder of how you, God s people, have answered the call and have run in the lanes He s established for you. Every activity on every page is a testament of how you partnered in God s great work. Now in my fifth year as senior pastor, nothing encourages me more than seeing people pursuing intimacy with the Lord and exercising their gifts. I believe God is doing great things here at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in and through each of you, and I m excited to be a part of it. So remember know the Lord, know your lane and trust that He will use your life to further His kingdom. Pastor Brian

3 JANUARY >HOSTED 2018 MISSIONS CONFERENCE YOU GAVE $2.68 MILLION TO MISSIONS WORLDWIDE 474 ADULTS & 74 KIDS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD ATTENDED >YOU SUPPORTED MORE THAN 155 MISSIONARY FAMILIES IN 50 COUNTRIES >143 YOUTH WORKERS Were equipped at our Youth Workers Conference 2018 STARTED WITH A >WEEK OF PRAYER & FASTING + 19 REGULAR PRAYER MINISTRIES >OVER 40,000 PRAYER REQUESTS prayed over on our Prayer Watch JOHN THOMAS PATTON In one year, I went from being a lost man serving divorce papers to reconciling with my wife, seeking the Lord as a couple, and starting a marriage ministry! During our 18-month separation, my wife Mary prayed faithfully for me every Saturday morning at CCCM with the Intercessory Prayer group. Because of this, the Lord broke through to me and brought us back together! Despite our reconciliation, I was hesitant to join a church again, but Mary told me I needed to come with her to CCCM and meet the welcoming people here. We got plugged in and committed to pray and fast with the church for the first time. Initially, it seemed nothing happened, beyond drawing closer to the Lord. But the Sunday after we broke our fast, the Lord spoke to me through Pastor Brian s message to start a marriage restoration ministry! By February, I started studying to do this at CCBC Costa Mesa, and I am now going with my wife monthly to pray for families at the local courthouse. Hear J. This is hard to find in other fellowships. The gathering atmosphere is always filled with Christ s love. Everyone from the ministry team works selflessly and diligently to welcome and share God s love to everyone, especially the new believers. The monthly gatherings show me that God s love has no boundaries, no matter what culture we belong to. It blesses me to see the love everyone has for one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. 5 MARCH >JUNIOR HIGH WINTER CAMP 300 STUDENTS met with the Lord in the mountains >WHEN LEADERS LEAD WOMEN S CONFERENCE >LIFT OFF OUTREACH EVENT Over a dozen commitments to Christ 1,157 WOMEN were encouraged by Kay Arthur & built up in over 30 workshops >CALVARY CHAPEL HIGH SCHOOL MOVING DAY THE ENTIRE CCHS STUDENT BODY & STAFF BECKY AMATO I went to CCCM s Junior High Winter Camp for the first time this year. After the very first chapel, some of the girls and I were emotional as we continued praying for each other. I had never experienced that. You could feel God s presence. We all came together like a family. Hannah Ostunio, the girls leader, was there to pray for us, and she showed me how to open up, to talk, and to cry about what was going on in my life. She did not make me feel like what I was going through didn t matter but showed that she really truly cared about me. After that week, my relationship with the other junior high girls and Hannah got so much stronger, and they showed me how to be myself and love myself. That has helped me so much, and it has made my relationship with God grow. We ve since become a part of the New Believers team and have been able to participate in follow-up at outreach events and have become part of the weekly Prayer Ministry at CCCM. I joined Children s Ministry, though I had never worked with children before. I joined the Worship Ministry, despite my feelings of inadequacy. OPEN, the young adults ministry, brought me community that I doubted could exist in this church. It didn t all happen right away, and it took a few years for me to find where I belong; but 2018 has truly been a season of exponential growth. God has shown me what church looks like and how He has provided people to run the race with. I am looking forward to this next year and what God has planned. We love gathering together weekly and have started to see each other not just at church or in a group, but as friends and family outside of church as a true community of believers. This year, as I gathered with my family for the holidays, I couldn t help but think how much more intimately connected I am with my community group at CCCM; it has become a true family to me.

So I prayed for new friendships and to be needed outside of motherhood. Almost in an instant, God answered those prayers far beyond my expectations! I am in the final month of 2018 with three new friend groups, a calendar with every day filled, and I am now co-leading the Moms with Babies Joyful Life group at CCCM. I have seen moms nourished emotionally and grow spiritually; it provides a place where they know they are not alone! I am grateful to a God who answers prayers more abundantly than I would have ever imagined. Thank you, Calvary, for being my home church. It has been a journey of faith, but just last year, I chose to give my life fully to Christ. During the 2017 week of Prayer & Fasting, God called me to rededicate my life, to publicly proclaim it, and to be baptized anew. Since then, I had the joy of joining the 2018 Creation Fest Team, the joy of leading three people to Christ in England, the joy of leading my 95-year old client to the Lord on her deathbed, and now I can see the Lord is preparing me for new things in my future! Be still, and know that I am God. It was more of a ritual to attend church with my family for the first few years of my marriage. I never included God or my wife in any decisions. In 2007, I hit rock bottom with my business and nearly lost everything, including our home. We couldn t afford to make mortgage payments, I had my life threatened, and I was facing a lawsuit all at the same time. My wife was faithful in praying for me throughout and was a great support, despite the circumstances putting stress on our marriage and family. At my lowest of lows, God showed up! He completely broke me and began to reshape me. I learned to depend on Him instead of myself. I began to serve here at CCCM, I joined the usher ministry, and joined the husbands group with Pastor Craig Coffin. Wow! What an eye-opening and heart-changing experience it has been. I m grateful for all the ministries that my family and I have been a part of these past few years, and I look forward to seeing what the Lord does in the future!

I have noticed them acting out skits of Bible lessons together, discussing the details of their lessons, and sharing with each other what they have learned. I have loved watching my kids not only learn about the Bible, but retain it and repeat it to each other. It is so fun to see the Bible in their playtime, and I hope and pray other kids attending Children s Ministry classes are just as blessed and having as much fun. OVER 4,000 came in costume to play games, listen to live music, eat delicious food, collect candy, & hear the Gospel 208 VOLUNTEERS made it possible 45 RESPONDED to the Gospel messages 30+ BIBLES given out 60 LBS OF POPCORN popped and served 200 FACES PAINTED by our children s ministry

We have always loved serving in this meaningful way with many wonderful people, but this year, we saw God do the miraculous in our own lives. Sheri underwent a couple of surgeries that resulted in a severed nerve, ultimately paralyzing her esophagus. We were told she would not be able to eat and digest solid food again. After 42 days in the hospital, we decided not to have a third surgery. We went before the Lord in prayer, along with the Armor of Light Ministry, Vintage Life Ministry, and Pastor John Henry Corcoran. We have seen God regenerate her nerve, healing her esophagus, prolonging her life, and restoring her ability to eat! That which the doctors told Sheri could never happen did happen through our God and your prayers! I was born into Sunday school, went to church, prayed every day, and all of my friends were Christians. But something was missing; I was numb. Everything changed for me when I went with the CCHS senior class on a missions trip to Panama. I got a glimpse of what my life looked like as a Christian in love with Jesus through time in personal reflection, worship sessions, and serving God s children. As I grew closer to God and to other people on fire for Jesus, I realized my perception of Christianity was not the reality of what God had in store for me. I rededicated my life to the Lord there on that trip because I wanted to move forward, not slide backwards. Complacency was the most dangerous spot I had ever been in because I didn t know how to escape. I now have a true relationship with the Lord, and I m truly in love with my Savior and grateful for the community of truly dedicated believers I now have at OPEN (the young adults group).
