Worship Times: 9:00 AM & 11:00AM (Español) We are thankful to God that you are here to worship with us this morning. Your presence with us is a gift from God. May He bless our worship together! December 23,

PRESERVICE MUSIC GREETING GOD GATHERS US IN HIS PRESENCE BELLS "The Advent of Our God" 16:77 [18] (In reverent awe we stand and face the cross of our Lord at the entrance. The pianist leads us in singing praise. As the processional cross passes, you, turn and continue to focus your eyes and heart on the cross. We do this to remind ourselves Jesus' death for us draws us here to be served by Him and serve Him as members of His family, the church.) HYMN "The Advent of Our God" LW 12 The advent of our God Shall be our theme for prayer; Come, let us meet him on the road And place for him prepare. The everlasting Son Incarnate stoops to be, Himself the servant's form puts on To set his people free. Come, Zion's daughter, rise To meet your lowly king, Nor let your faithless heart despise The peace he comes to bring. As judge, on clouds of light, He soon will come again And all his scattered saints unite With him on high to reign. Before the dawning day Let sin be put to flight; No longer let the law hold sway, 2

But walk in freedom's light. All glory to the Son, Who comes to set us free, With Father, Spirit, ever one Through all eternity. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Pastor: God is light; in Him is no darkness at all. Pastor: If we claim to have fellowship with Him yet walk in darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. Pastor: But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1:5-7 (Silence for meditation and reflection) Pastor: Let us confess our sin to God, our merciful Father: I, a poor sinner, plead guilty before God of all my sins. At times I have served unfaithfully and have not done what is required of me. I have angered those around me and have provoked them to curse and swear. I have been negligent toward others and have caused damage to be done. My words and deeds have been offensive. I have quarreled with my peers. I have aggravated my spouse, my children, my friends, and my co-workers. For these things, I am truly sorry, and plead for Your infinite grace and mercy. I want to do better. Pastor: Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of Christ, and by His authority, I therefore declare unto you the forgiveness of 3

Pastor: all of your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. May He who began this good work within you bring it to completion on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. The peace of the Lord be with you. And also with you. SONG "Light One Candle"...AGPS #163 The Advent candle is lit at this time. Light one candle for hope, one bright candle for hope, He brings hope to ev'ry heart, He comes! He comes! Light one candle for peace, one bright candle for peace, He brings peace to ev'ry heart, He comes! He comes! Light one candle for joy, one bright candle for joy, Ev'ry nation will find salvation in Bethlehem's baby boy. Light one candle for love, one bright candle for love, He brings love to ev'ry heart, He comes! He comes! He brings love to ev'ry heart, He comes! He comes! PRAYER OF THE DAY Pastor: Let us pray. Pastor: Stir up Your power, O Lord, and come among us with great might; and because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let Your bountiful grace and speedily help deliver us; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. 4

Amen. "GOD GIVES US THE GIFT OF HIS WORD" KYRIE Gloria in Excelsis SALUTATION AND COLLECT OF THE DAY P The Lord be with you. C And also with you. P Let us pray. Almighty God, whom to know is everlasting life, grant us to know Your Son, Jesus, to be the way, the truth, and the life, that we may steadfastly follow His steps in the way that leads to life eternal; through Jesus Christ, our 5

Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen. OLD TESTAMENT Micah 5:2-5a But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose origin is from of old, from ancient days. Therefore he shall give them up until the time when she who is in labor has given birth; then the rest of his brothers shall return to the people of Israel. And he shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they shall dwell secure, for now he shall be great to the ends of the earth. And he shall be their peace. When the Assyrian comes into our land and treads in our palaces, Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! EPISTLE Hebrews 10:5-10 Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me; in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. Then I said, Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book. When he said above, You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings (these are offered according to the law), then he added, Behold, I have come to do your will. He abolishes the first in order to establish the second. And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! (Please rise.) ALLELUIA AND VERSE 6

GOSPEL Luke 1:39-45 Pastor: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the first chapter. Glory to You, O Lord. In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord. Pastor: This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, O Christ. CHILDREN'S MESSAGE 7

HYMN "My Soul Now Magnifies the Lord" (Tune LW 14) LW 211 My soul now magnifies the Lord; My spirit leaps for joy in him. He keeps me in his kind regard, And I am blest for time to come. SERMON For he alone who shows such might Has done amazing things to me. His mercy flows; his name like light Remains in time perpetually. His arm is strong; his strength is great. He scatters those of proud intent And casts them down from high estate, Then gives the low his nourishment. He feeds the hungry as his own; The wealthy leave with empty hands. He gives his help to Israel; His gracious promise always stands. THE APOSTLES CREED (With All Christians We Proclaim Our Convictions) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead. 8

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Pastor: It is truly good, right and salutary that we should gratefully thank you Holy Lord evermore praising you and singing: PRAYER Pastor: Almighty God, Your power is great but it is made known chiefly through the mercy You show to those who do not deserve Your grace. Grant us Your Holy Spirit that WE may RECEIVE CHRIST WITH FAITH as blessed Mary received Him in the annunciation of the angel. Fill us with COURAGE AND CONFIDENCE in Your grace that we may STAND FIRM in faith and BE BOLD in witness to all that He by His grace has accomplished for us. Help us to know Him by faith now so that we may be ready to receive Him when He comes as Lord and Judge of all. Prepare our hearts and minds through repentance and give us Your Spirit to lead us in pathways of holiness and righteousness all our days. Give us to know Him with such confidence that we may not fear but welcome His presence in Word and Sacrament as we await His coming again. 11

SANCTUS THE LORD'S PRAYER: Pastor: Lord, remember us in Your kingdom and teach us to pray: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. CHRIST S WORDS OF CONSECRATION Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is my body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of me. In the same way also he took the cup after supper, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink of it, all of you; this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. 12

DISTRIBUTION HYMNS Hark the Glad Sound LW 29 Hark! the glad sound! the Savior comes, the Savior promised long: let every heart prepare a throne, and every voice a song. He comes the prisoners to release in Satan's bondage held; the gates of brass before him burst, the iron fetters yield. Our glad hosannas, Prince of Peace, Your welcome shall proclaim; and heaven's eternal arches ring with your beloved Name. "Lo, How a Rose Is Growing" LW 67 Lo, how a rose is growing, A bloom of finest grace; The prophets had foretold it: A branch of Jesse s race 13

Would bear one perfect flow r Here in the cold of winter And darkest midnight hour. The rose of which I m singing, Isaiah had foretold. He came to us through Mary, Who sheltered him from cold. Through God s eternal will This child to us was given At midnight calm and still. The shepherds heard the story The angels sang that night: How Christ was born of Mary; He was the Son of light. To Bethlehem they ran To find him in the manger As angel heralds sang. This flow r, so small and tender, With fragrance fills the air; His brightness ends the darkness That kept the earth in fear. True God and yet true man, He came to save his people From earth s dark night of sin. Joy to the World LW 53 Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let all their songs employ While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains Repeat the sounding joy, Repeat the sounding joy, 14

Repeat, repeat the sounding joy. No more let sin and sorrow grow Nor thorns infest the ground; He comes to make His blessings flow Far as the curse is found, Far as the curse is found, Far as, far as the curse is found. He rules the world with truth and grace And makes the nations prove The glories of His righteousness And wonders of His love, And wonders of His love, And wonders, wonders of His love. (Please rise.)
