1 St. Paul s on-the-hill Anglican Church 882 Kingston Rd., Pickering L1V 1A8 Phone: Fax: th Sunday after Easter April 29 th, 2018 the songs sung from the dawn of creation some were meant to persist. Of all the bells rung from a thousand steeples none rings truer than this. And all the powers of darkness tremble at what they've just heard. 'Cause all the powers of darkness can't drown out a single word.chorus [Peter Furler Steve Taylor, 2003 Ariose Music Soylent Tunes CCLI (Admin. by EMI Christian Music Publishing) (Admin. by Integrated Copyright Group, Inc.] Welcome and Call To Worship Opening Prayer Leader: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all. PEOPLE: AND ALSO WITH YOU. Leader: Almighty God, PEOPLE: to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Prayer of Confession: Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. 9:00 a.m. PRAISE EUCHARIST Sunday School: (JK to High School) on Lower Level in the Main Hall Nursery & Preschool: Lower Level, Nursery Room Processional Hymn: He Reigns It's the song of the redeemed rising from the African plain. It's the song of the forgiven drowning out the Amazon rain, the song of Asian believers filled with God's holy fire. It's every tribe, every tongue, every nation, a love song born of a grateful choir. Chorus: It's all God's children singing glory, glory, hallelujah, He reigns, He reigns. It's all God's children singing glory, glory, hallelujah, He reigns, He reigns. Let it rise above the four winds caught up in the heavenly sound, let praises echo from the towers of cathedrals to the faithful gathered underground. Of all Absolution Priest: The peace of the Lord be always with you. PEOPLE: AND ALSO WITH YOU. Praise Song: My Lighthouse In my wrestling and in my doubts, in my failures You won t walk out. Your great love will lead me through. You are the peace in my troubled sea, whoa, oh. You are the peace in my troubled sea. In the silence You won t let go. In the questions Your truth will hold. Your great love will lead us through. You are the peace in my troubled sea, whoa, oh. You are the peace in my troubled sea. Chorus: My Lighthouse, my Lighthouse, shining in the darkness; I will follow You, oh, my Lighthouse, my Lighthouse, I will trust the promise You will carry me safe to shore, safe to shore, safe to shore, safe to shore.
2 I won t fear what tomorrow brings, with each new morning I ll rise and sing. My God s love will lead us through. You are the peace in my troubled sea, whoa, oh, You are the peace in my troubled sea. Bridge: Fire before us, You re the brightest. You will lead us through the storms (hey). (Repeat) [Rend Collective, c. 2013, Thankyou Music; by permission CCLI Praise Song: Our Deliverer There is beauty rising from these ashes. There is new life in these dry bones. There s revival flowing like a fountain. There s a new song waiting to be sung. Chorus 1: Our Deliverer is coming, our Deliverer is coming. Every burden one day will be lifted and every broken heart will be redeemed. The Lord Almighty is coming to our rescue; salvation s waiting for all who will believe. Chorus 2: Our Deliverer is coming with salvation in His wings. Our Deliverer is coming here to set His people free. Our Deliverer is coming, coming back for you and me, our Deliverer is coming. Bridge: Savior come to set us free from our pain and suffering. We are waiting for the day when our Deliverer is coming, Savior come to set us free from our pain and suffering, we are waiting for the day when chorus 1 Chorus 2: Our Deliverer is coming with salvation in His wings. Our Deliverer is coming here to set His people free. Ending: Our Deliverer, our Deliverer, Savior come to set us free from our pain and suffering. We are waiting for the day when our Deliverer is coming with salvation in His wings. Our Deliverer is coming here to set His people free. [Third Day, by permission CCLI Praise Song: Resurrection Day Because You ve risen I can rise; because You re living I m alive; because Your cross is powerful, because you rose invincible, I can get up off the floor. Chorus: This is my resurrection day, nothing s gonna hold me in the grave. This is my resurrection day, nothing s gonna hold me down. Say goodbye to my yesterdays ever since I met You I am changed. This is my resurrection day, nothing s gonna hold me down. Because You rolled my stone away because my debt has all been paid because You stand in victory, because You crushed the enemy I can get up off the floor. Bridge: The good news is the good news cause You chose the rugged cross. The good news is the good news cause You rose up from the dust. Your gospel is the power that is saving all of us so I can get up off the floor, come on, get up off the floor. [Chris Llewellyn, Ed Cash, Gareth Gikeson, c. 2018, Capitol CMG Paragon, Rend Family Music, Alletrip Music; by permission CCLI Collect of the Day: (said together) Almighty God, your Son Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. Give us grace to love one another and walk in the way of his commandments, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. First Reading: Acts 8:26-40 (page 777) Reader: A Reading from the book of Acts. At the conclusion of the Reading, the reader says, The word of the Lord People: THANKS BE TO GOD All stand for the reading of the Gospel. Reader: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Reader: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John, Chapter 15, verses 1-8. People: Glory to you, Lord Jesus Christ. (The Reading of the Gospel page 764) Reader: The Gospel of Christ, People: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Sermon: The Rev. Canon Phil Bristow The Apostles' Creed: (said together, standing) I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Offertory Hymn: I Am Yours You found me when I was your foe, You chased me down that road. You took me in just as I was and loved me as Your own. I could run a thousand miles but I d never get away. I know Your love would follow me far beyond the grave. Chorus: I am Yours. I belong to You. If only one thing s true, I belong to You. (2X)
3 In this age of worry, where the fear commands the day, sometimes if I m honest, I feel helpless and afraid. But as I lie awake in bed, unsure of what s to come, I remember these two things: I m chosen and I m loved. Chorus Bridge: When I m walking through the valley of the shadow, I will fear no wrong. You lead me down beside the still and quiet waters in the peace and calm. Your love has always been for me, this heart is spoken for, I am Yours. Ending: You found me when I was your foe. You chased me down that road. You took me in just as I was and loved me as Your own. Chorus [Tim Neufeld & The Glory Boys, by permission CCLI Prayer over the Gifts: Priest: Gracious God, you show us your way and give us your divine life. May everything we do be directed by the knowledge of your truth. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ the risen Lord. Intercessions The Celebration of the Eucharist Leader: The Lord be with you. Hosanna in the highest. PEOPLE (said): Therefore, Father, according to his command, we remember his death, we proclaim his resurrection, we await his coming again in glory; The Lord's Prayer (Said together) Leader: Lord we died with you on the cross. All: Now we are raised to new life. Leader: We were buried in your tomb. All: Now we share in your resurrection. During Communion please maintain a quiet attitude of prayer or join in quietly singing the following hymns. Prayer ministry is offered at the lobby doors during Communion. Benediction May the Lord bless you, and may He keep you and make His face to shine upon, and when we part ways, may you know His grace. May hope everlasting keep you strong. Chorus: To God be the glory, forever and ever. To God be the praise of all men. To God be the glory for ever and ever, to God be the glory, amen. (repeat from beginning) Bridge: To God be all the glory, all the glory, forever. (2X) Chorus 4X [Tim Neufeld & The Glory Boys, by permission CCLI One And Only Who spoke and told the sun to rise? Whose lips proclaimed the birth of light? Who sparked the kindling of the stars and set the fire in our hearts? Who sang as planets learned their dance? Who poured the oceans from His hands? Whose breath awakened life and dust and leaves me breathless at His touch? Chorus 1: Jesus, one and only, great and holy, we are Yours. How our hearts race at Your glory, Lord Almighty, we are Yours and Yours alone, Lord Almighty, we are Yours, My Savior. Who is this man upon a cross, who left His throne to ransom us; who died to save us at our worst and rose to give us heaven s best? Yeah, we will watch the Bridegroom come and heaven breaking like the dawn, all dressed in white, all shame is gone; we re free to dance before the throne. Chorus 2: Jesus, one and only, great and holy, we are Yours. How our hearts race at Your glory, Lord Almighty, we are Yours. [Rend Collective, c. Thankyoou Music, by permission CCLI Prayer After Communion: Leader: God of love, in this eucharist we have heard your truth and shared in your life. May we always walk in your way, in the name of Jesus Christ the Lord. People: Glory to God, whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. The Blessing Recessional Hymn: Resurrection Day Because You ve risen I can rise; because You re living I m alive; because Your cross is powerful, because you rose invincible, I can get up off the floor.
