1 25 th Sunday after Pentecost, November 11, Morning Prayer Nov 11, Today we remember all those who have given their lives for the peace and freedom we enjoy today. Let us pause to reflect on the sacrifices made by our brave service men and women, and reflect on the price of freedom. That price continues to be paid today with the brave service men and women who have been killed or injured in active service since O Canada Roll Call Silence They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old. 2 Nov 11, Dear friends in Christ, as we prepare to worship almighty God, let us with penitent and obedient hearts confess our sins, that we may obtain forgiveness by his infinite goodness and mercy. Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us, that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your name. Amen.

3 Psalm 146 Nov 11, Alleluia. Praise the Lord, O my soul: while I live will I praise the Lord; as long as I have any being, I will sing praises to my God. Put not your trust in princes, nor in any human power, for there is no help in them. When their breath goes forth, they return to the earth; on that day all their thoughts perish. Happy are those who have the God of Jacob for their help, whose hope is in the Lord their God; Who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them; who keeps his promise for ever; Who gives justice to those that suffer wrong and bread to those who hunger. 4 A Reading from 1 st Kings Nov 11, Then the Lord said to Elijah, Now go to the town of Zarephath, near Sidon, and stay there. I have commanded a widow who lives there to feed you. So Elijah went to Zarephath, and as he came to the town gate, he saw a widow gathering firewood. Please bring me a drink of water, he said to her. And as she was going to get it, he called out, And please bring me some bread, too. She answered, By the living Lord your God I swear that I don't have any bread. All I have is a handful of flour in a bowl and a bit of olive oil in a jar. I came here to gather some firewood to take back home and prepare what little I have for my son and me. That will be our last meal, and then we will starve to death. Don't worry, Elijah said to her. Go on and prepare your meal. But first make a small loaf from what you have and bring it to me, and then prepare the rest for you and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: The bowl will not run out of flour or the jar run out of oil before the day that I, the Lord, send rain. The widow went and did as Elijah had told her, and all of them had enough food for many days. As the Lord had promised through Elijah, the bowl did not run out of flour nor did the jar run out of oil. The Word of the Lord

5 A Reading from Hebrews Nov 11, For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgement, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him. 6 The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark Nov 11, And in his teaching he said, Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes and like greetings in the market-places and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honour at feasts, who devour widows' houses and for a pretence make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation. And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on. The Gospel of Christ

7 Nov 11, Sermon The Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. 8 Prayers of the People Nov 11, God of life, we praise you for your abiding presence from generation to generation, blessing your people, strengthening us to lives of service, empowering us to witness. Hear the prayers we offer on behalf of your creation. Let us pray for all who suffer as a result of conflict, for the service men and women who have died in the violence of war, each one remembered by and known to God; Give peace to all, Lord. For all members of the armed forces who are in danger this day, remembering family, friends and all who pray for their safe return; Give peace to all, Lord. For all those whose lives are disfigured by war or terror, calling to mind in penitence the anger and hatreds of humanity; Give peace to all, Lord. For peacemakers and peacekeepers, who seek to keep this world secure and free; Give peace to all, Lord. For all those we pray for, those on our list and those who have asked us to pray for them, remembering especially Becky, Ardith, Stanley, Bishop Edwards, Beulah, Carole, Ruby, Jason, Mark, Evelyn, Harold, Vivian, Phyllis, Zula, Ernest, Linda, Ken, Linda, Jeremy, Ann, Richard, Bennett, Ethel, Doreen, Ann, Catherine, grant us all peace. We ask that from age to age, new generations may be born to restore life and nourish the weak, by returning to you those things we once thought ours. Amen. as our Saviour has taught us, let us pray: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
