4 FANTASTIC FERNCLIFF FUPC sent lots of campers to Ferncliff this summer! I was blessed to be the Chaplain the week that we had two campers there: Jackson Sullivan, Sandy and David Davies grandson, and Hayden Werner. That same week Ferncliff experienced the groundbreaking for the extension to the Brown Center, the overnight rooms part of the conference center. It was exciting to see the building take shape from outlining the foundation to pouring the concrete for the footings! And all of our campers got to experience the new pool this summer! It s a fantastic pool, making it possible for campers to be more safe and to enjoy the pool regardless of their swimming level, with upward bursts of water, fountains, and buckets of water that dump on your head! And of course for those of us more practically minded, there s also a lot of shade with picnic tables so that the towels don t get wet, and a mini-kitchen complete with ice machine to make snow-cones for the campers! Next on the improvements schedule is a new dining facility that will be closer to the center of camp and make it possible to feed the growing number of campers at Ferncliff each summer. All of these additions at Ferncliff have been made possible through their Capital Campaign Fund, toward which FUPC made a three-year pledge and is fulfilling that pledge this year. Thank you to our members for your tithes and offerings which support our annual budget and make it possible for us to contribute to Presbytery-wide ministries such as Ferncliff. Rev. Leslie Belden UNITED CAMPUS MINISTRY Welcome to United Campus Ministry! We are looking forward to meeting you in August. We have several events in the Fall and Spring semesters that we want you to be aware of, in addition to our weekly and monthly activities. If you are participating in sorority recruitment, most likely you will be at UCM some time during the week! We will be a "rest station" when you are not in parties, offering water and lemonade and snacks daily. Make sure to introduce yourself! We participate in youth conferences as part of a group called Leader Corps. In the fall, we participate in Junior High Youth Quake at Ferncliff Conference Center in Little Rock on Sept This year, college students will keynote the conference, as well as lead energizers, recreation and small groups. If you are interested in participating in this conference, let us know so we can get you the paperwork. The ministry covers the cost of this conference. The spring dates for Senior High Youth Quake, as well as the conference center, are still being determined. Every year, we attend two college conferences. Montreat College Conference is Jan 2-5, 2015 in Montreat, N.C. Application deadline for this conference will be Oct. 1, and includes a $50 non-refundable deposit. Total cost for the conference runs about $200. In past years, we have traveled by charter bus from Little Rock. We have not determined transportation yet for this year. Our other college conference is College Connection at Mo Ranch, which is held in May. Dates for this conference haven't been finalized yet. We have plans for an Alternative Spring Break, partnering with local churches and Solar Under the Sun, to work in Honduras March 21-28, This is an effort with Presbyterian missionaries in Honduras, and part of a long term mission plan with churches in Northwest Arkansas. Costs will be finalized in the fall. Questions? Call or text Susan Rose at , or her at ucm_chaplain@yahoo.com. FUPC YOUTH SPREAD GOD S LOVE AT REACH WORK-CAMP On June 14, sixteen youth and three adults from FUPC set out to spread God s love through mission and fellowship at REACH Work-Camp in Sylacauga, Ala. This was an exciting time for our youth as they were continuing their support of REACH Work-Camp and getting to live out their faith through missions. The week ahead would be spent working, laughing, and playing together with new friends in the HOT Alabama sun! When we arrived to Sylacauga we were quickly split up into our work crews. Our Jr. High students were split into two work crews lead by Rob Button and Angie Hewat, while the Sr. High students were spread out to a number of different work crews for the week. The work crews gave our youth a great opportunity to connect with other youth from different parts of the country and different denominations. The work crews were assigned different task for the week. These task included painting, roofing, building handicap assessable ramps, etc. The work the youth took part in was truly amazing and the impact they made was a blessing to the neighbors and community of Sylacauga, Alabama. During the evening the youth had the opportunity to worship alongside each other and with new friends at the evening program. This was a great time for them to explore scripture and events that are relevant to their lives together! This was truly an amazing week for our youth. The houses we worked on were not the only thing transformed. The lives of our youth and lives of our neighbors were changed. We thank the congregation for the loving support to make this happen. This mission was an extension of this church s efforts to expand the Body of Christ! Blessings! Presbyterian youth from all over the country converged on Sylacauga, Ala. in June to help residents there with various home repairs.
