Label Catechism # Commandments 1&2 Hymn 282 Vs. 1-2 Ps. 56:11 Quiz 2 Text THE FIRST COMMANDMENT You shall have no other gods. We should fear, love, and trust in God above all things. THE SECOND COMMANDMENT You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God. We should fear and love God that we do not use his name to curse, swear, lie or deceive, or use witchcraft, but call upon God's name in every trouble, pray, praise, and give thanks. Lord, open now my heart to hear, and through your Word to me draw near. Let me your Word e er pure retain; Let me your child and heir remain. Your Word inspires my heart within; Your Word grants healing from my sin. Your Word has pow r to guide and bless; your word brings peace and happiness. In God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? Parents

Quiz 3 Commandments 3&4 THE THIRD COMMANDMENT Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. We should fear and love God that we do not despise preaching and his Word, but regard it as holy, and gladly hear and learn it. Hymn 230 Vs James 1:17 THE FOURTH COMMANDMENT Honor your father and mother, that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth. We should fear and love God that we do not dishonor or anger our parents and others in authority, but honor, serve, and obey them, and give them love and respect. Lord Jesus Christ be present now; Our hearts in true devotion bow. Your Spirit send with grace divine, and let your truth within us shine Unseal our lips to sing your praise; our souls to you in worship raise. Make strong our faith; increase our light that we may know your name aright. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights

Quiz 4 Commandments 5&6 THE FIFTH COMMANDMENT You shall not murder. We should fear and love God that we do not hurt or harm our neighbor in his body, but help and befriend him in every bodily need. 904 Jn 11: Jn 4:10 THE SIXTH COMMANDMENT You shall not commit adultery. We should fear and love God that we lead a pure and decent life in words and actions, and that husband and wife love and honor each other. Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Quiz 5 Commandments 7&8 THE SEVENTH COMMANDMENT You shall not steal. We should fear and love God that we do not take our neighbor's money or property or get it by dishonest dealing, but help him to improve and protect his property and means of income. THE EIGHTH COMMANDMENT You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. We should fear and love God that we do not tell lies about our neighbor, betray him, or give him a bad name, but defend him, speak well of him, and take his words and actions in the kindest possible way. Acts 4: Cor 5:15 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again

Quiz 6 Commandments 9&10 THE NINTH COMMANDMENT You shall not covet your neighbor's house. We should fear and love God that we do not scheme to get our neighbor's inheritance or house or obtain it by a show of right, but do all we can to help him keep it. THE TENTH COMMANDMENT You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, workers, animals, or anything that belongs to your neighbor. We should fear and love God that we do not force or entice away our neighbor's spouse, workers, or animals, but urge them to stay and do their duty Cor 5: Cor 8:9 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

Quiz 7 Conclusion THE CONCLUSION What does God say about all these commandments? He says, "I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments." God threatens to punish all who transgress these commandments. Therefore we should fear his anger and not disobey what he commands. But he promises grace and every blessing to all who keep these commandments. Therefore we should love and trust in him, and Jn 1:7 697 Gal 4: Is 43:11 gladly obey what he commands. The blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.

Quiz 8 1 st Article THE FIRST ARTICLE I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe that God created me and all that exists, and that he gave me my body and soul, eyes, ears and all my members, my mind and all my abilities. And I believe that God still preserves me by richly and daily providing clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, spouse and children, land, cattle, and all I own, and all I need to keep my body and life. God also preserves me by defending me against all danger, guarding and protecting me from all evil. All this God does only because he is my good and merciful Father in heaven, and not because I have earned or deserved it. For all this I ought to thank and praise, to serve and obey him. This is most certainly true Eph 3: Lk 1:37 [God] is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine For nothing is impossible with God

Quiz 9 2 nd Article THE SECOND ARTICLE I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord. He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned creature, purchased and won me from all sins, from death and from the power of the devil, not with gold or silver, but with his holy, precious blood and with his innocent suffering and death. All this he did that I should be his own, and live under him in his kingdom, and serve him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness, just as he has risen from death and lives and rules Hymn 200 vs. 1-3 eternally. This is most certainly true. A mighty Fortress is our God,A trusty Shield and Weapon; He helps us free from every need That has us now o ertaken. The old evil Foe Now means deadly woe; Deep guile and great might Are his dread arms in fight; On Earth is not his equal. With might of ours can naught be done, Soon were our loss effected; But for us fights the Valiant One, Whom God Himself elected. You ask, Who is this? Jesus Christ it is. The Almighty Lord, And there s no other God; He holds the field forever. Though devils all the world should fill, All eager to devour us. We tremble not, we fear no ill, They shall not overpower us. This world s prince may still Scowl fierce as he will, He can harm us none, He s judged; the deed is done; One little word can fell him.

Quiz 10 3 rd Article THE THIRD ARTICLE I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. I believe that I cannot by my own thinking or choosing believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to him. But the Holy Spirit has called me by the gospel, enlightened me with his gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith. In the same way he calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian Church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian Church he daily and fully forgives all sins to me and all believers. On the Last Day he will raise me and all the dead, and give eternal life 191 Ps 50: Ps 118:1 to me and all believers in Christ. This is most certainly true. Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will honor me." Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Quiz 11 1 st Baptism THE INSTITUTION OF BAPTISM First: What is Baptism? Baptism is not just plain water, but it is water used by God's command and connected with God's Word. Which is that Word of God? Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Matthew, "Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit!" Hymn 2 vs Mt 7:7-8 Savior of the nations, come; Virgin s son make here your home. Marvel now, O heav n and earth, that the Lord chose such a birth Not by human flesh and blood, by the Spirit of our God was the Word of God made flesh, Woman s offspring, pure, and fresh. Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Quiz 12 2 nd Baptism THE BLESSINGS OF BAPTISM Second: What does Baptism do for us? Baptism works forgiveness of sin, delivers from death and the devil, and gives eternal salvation to all who believe this, as the words and promises of God declare. What are these words and promises of God? Christ our Lord says in the last chapter of Mark, "Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned." 1655 Mt 26: Cor 10: Gal 5:13 Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak. So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Serve one another in love.

Quiz 13 3 rd Baptism THE POWER OF BAPTISM Third: How can water do such great things? It is certainly not the water that does such things, but God's Word which is in and with the water, and faith which trusts this Word used with the water. For without God's Word the water is just plain water and not baptism. But with this Word it is baptism, that is, a gracious water of life and a washing of rebirth by the Holy Spirit. Where is this written? St. Paul says in Titus, chapter 3, "God saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. This is a trustworthy saying Gal 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Quiz 14 4 th Baptism THE MEANING OF BAPTISM FOR OUR DAILY LIFE Fourth: What does baptizing with water mean? Baptism means that the old Adam in us should be drowned by daily contrition and repentance, and that all its evil deeds and desires be put to death. It also means that a new person should daily arise to live before God in righteousness and purity forever. Where is this written? St. Paul says in Romans, chapter 6, "We were buried with Christ through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from 1634 Eph 4: Jn 4: Eph 6:1 the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life." Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. We love because he first loved us. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

Quiz 15 Address THE ADDRESS Our Father in heaven With these words God tenderly invites us to believe that he is our true Father and that we are his true children, so that we may pray to him as boldly and confidently as dear children ask their dear father Jn 4:7,20 Jr 29:11 Let us love one another, for love comes from God.anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Quiz 16 1 st Petition THE FIRST PETITION Hallowed be your name God's name is certainly holy by itself, but we pray in this petition that we too may keep it holy. How is God's name kept holy? God's name is kept holy when his Word is taught in its truth and purity, and we as children of God lead holy lives according to it. Help us to do this, dear Father in heaven! But whoever teaches and lives contrary to God's Word dishonors God's name among us. Keep us from doing this, dear Father in heaven! 746 Rm 8: Is 55:11 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. My word will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it

Quiz 17 2 nd Petition THE SECOND PETITION Your kingdom come. God's kingdom certainly comes by itself even without our prayer, but we pray in this petition that it may also come to us. How does God's kingdom come? God's kingdom comes when our heavenly Father gives his Holy Spirit, so that by his grace we believe his holy Word and lead a godly life now on earth and forever in heaven. 250 Lk 11: Mt 7:15 65 Jn 5:39 Blessed are those who hear the word of God and obey it. Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me

Quiz 18 3 rd Petition THE THIRD PETITION Your will be done on earth as in heaven. God's good and gracious will certainly is done without our prayer, but we pray in this petition that it may be done among us also. How is God's will done? God's will is done when he breaks and defeats every evil plan and purpose of the devil, the world, and our sinful flesh, which try to prevent us from keeping God's name holy and letting his kingdom come. And God's will is done when he strengthens and keeps us firm in his Word and in the faith as long as we live. This is his good and gracious will. 229 Jn 8:47 18 Jn 20:31 49 Rm 1: Tim 3:15 He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God." But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes From infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Quiz 19 4 th Petition THE FOURTH PETITION Give us today our daily bread. God surely gives daily bread without our asking, even to all the wicked, but we pray in this petition that he would lead us to realize this and to receive our daily bread with thanksgiving. What, then, is meant by daily bread? Daily bread includes everything that we need for our bodily welfare, such as food and drink, clothing and shoes, house and home, land and cattle, money and goods, a godly spouse, godly children, godly workers, godly and faithful leaders, good government, good weather, peace and order, health, a good name, good friends, faithful neighbors, and the like. Hymn 105 vs. 1,4 O sacred head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down, now scornfully surrounded, with thorns your only crown, O scared head no glory, now from your face does shine; Yet though despised and gory, I joy to call you mine. My burden in your passion, Lord, you have borne for me, for it was my transgression, my shame on Calvary. I cast me down before you; Wrath is my rightful lot. Have mercy, I implore you; Redeemer spurn me not!

Quiz 20 5 th Petition THE FIFTH PETITION Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against US. We pray in this petition that our Father in heaven would not look upon our sins or because of them deny our prayers; for we are worthy of none of the things for which we ask, neither have we deserved them, but we ask that he would give them all to us by grace; for we daily sin much and surely deserve nothing but punishment. So we too will forgive from the heart and gladly do good to those who sin against us. Mk 16: Rm 10:17 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ

Quiz 21 6 th Petition THE SIXTH PETITION Lead us not into temptation. God surely tempts no one to sin, but we pray in this petition that God would guard and keep us, so that the devil, the world, and our flesh may not deceive us or lead us into false belief, despair, and other great and shameful sins; and though we are tempted by them, we pray that we may overcome and win the victory. Hymn 494 vs. 1,2,4 Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love; the fellowship of kindred minds is like to that above. Before our Father's throne we pour our ardent prayers; our fears, our hopes, our aims are one, our comforts and our cares. 693 Hb 11:1 96 Mt 5:48 When here our pathways part, we suffer bitter pain; Yet one in Christ and one in heart, we hope to meet again. Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Quiz 22 7 th Petition THE SEVENTH PETITION But deliver us from evil. In conclusion we pray in this petition that our Father in heaven would deliver us from every evil that threatens body and soul, property and reputation, and finally when our last hour comes, grant us a blessed end and graciously take us from this world of sorrow to himself in heaven. 641 Rm 3:23 56 Rm 6: Rm 7:18 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature.

Quiz 23 Doxology Hymn 587 vs. 3-4 THE DOXOLOGY For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen. We can be sure that these petitions are acceptable to our Father in heaven and are heard by him, for he himself has commanded us to pray in this way and has promised to hear us. Therefore we say, "Amen," "Yes, it shall be so." Lord Jesus, since you love me, Oh, spread your wings above me And shield me from alarm! Though Satan would assail me, your mercy will not fail me: I rest in your protecting arm. My loved ones, rest securely, For God this night will surely From peril guard your heads. Sweet slumbers may He send you And bid His hosts attend you And through the night watch o'er your beds. 579 Rm 8: Tim 6:10 The sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.

Quiz 24 Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary, and became fully human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate. He suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who in unity with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen Js 2:10 1Jn 4:8 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Quiz 25 Holy Communion First THE INSTITUTION OF HOLY COMMUNION First: What is the sacrament of Holy Communion? It is the true body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ under the bread and wine, instituted by Christ for us Christians to eat and to drink. Where is this written? The holy Evangelists Matthew, Mark, Luke, and the Apostle Paul tell us: Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night he was betrayed, took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me." Then he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me." Hymn 152 vs. 1-3 I know that my Redeemer lives; What comfort this sweet sentence gives! He lives, He lives, who once was dead; He lives, my everliving Head. He lives triumphant from the grave, He lives eternally to save, He lives all-glorious in the sky, He lives exalted there on high. He lives to bless me with His love, He lives to plead for me above. He lives my hungry soul to feed, He lives to help in time of need.

Quiz 26 Holy Communion Second THE BLESSINGS OF HOLY COMMUNION Second: What blessing do we receive through this eating and drinking and drinking? That is shown us by these words, "Given and poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins." Through these words we receive forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation in this sacrament. For where there is forgiveness of sins, there is also life and salvation Pt 3: Jn 11:25 Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies

Quiz 27 Holy Communion Third THE POWER OF HOLY COMMUNION Third: How can eating and drinking do such great things? It is certainly not the eating and drinking that does such things, but the words, "Given and poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins. "These words are the main thing in this sacrament, along with the eating and drinking. And whoever believes these words has what they plainly say, the forgiveness of sins. Hymn 411 vs. 1-2 What a Friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear! What a privilege to carry Ev'rything to God in prayer! Oh, what peace we often forfeit, Oh, what needless pain we bear, All because we do not carry Ev'rything to God in prayer! Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere? We should never be discouraged, Take it to the Lord in prayer. Can we find a Friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share? Jesus knows our ev'ry weakness-- Take it to the Lord in prayer. Rv 2:10 Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life

Quiz 28 Holy Communion Fourth Jn 1:9 495 Mt 12:36 THE RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION Fourth: Who, then, is properly prepared to receive this sacrament? Fasting and other outward preparations may serve a good purpose, but he is properly prepared who believes these words, "Given and poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins." But whoever does not believe these words or doubts them is not prepared, because the words "for you" require nothing but hearts that believe. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken
