1 Trinity First Lutheran School 3 rd Grade Curriculum Plan Ms. Anna Schield Religion/Christian Faith Textbook: One in Christ, Grade 3 (CPH) Overview: Children will discuss and, guided by God s work in their heart, will understand answers to these questions: What has God done for me through Jesus? Who am I, based on who God says I am? What is my relationship with God like? What is the importance of God s word? How do I live as a result of my faith in Christ? 3 Other Aspects of Faith Development Memory Work Children have the opportunity to expand their brain s memory capabilities and create a storage file of helpful passages to guide them throughout their life in truth and encouragement of God s love. Prayers Communicating with God is part of our relationship with him, and we know that he hears us. In fact, he wants us to talk to him often! We incorporate prayer throughout the day specifically before meals, at the beginning and end of our day, and any time as concerns arise, as we experience joy and success, and whenever we feel the need to talk with our Heavenly Father. Songs/Hymns In addition to the songs and hymns children learn in choir and chapel, some songs and hymns will be incorporated in our learning both as part of some daily Religion lessons and throughout our classroom routine, including during our classroom closing or serving as prayers. Math Textbook: MathConnects, Macmillan/McGraw-Hill, 3 rd Grade Overview: Students will solidify their previous math knowledge and build on those skills to develop understandings of multiplication, division, and fractions. Students will use various forms of information (charts, physical manipulatives, pictures, etc.) to analyze mathematical concepts. Students will deepen their math thinking skills as they use learn how math is part of the real world. Conceptual Knowledge and Computational Fluency Using place value Multiple- digit addition and subtraction Measure length, area, temperature, capacity, weight, volume, and time Identify geometric figures and reason spatially Concepts of multiplication and division Methods for multiplying and dividing 0-12 Mental fluency: memory of multiplication and division facts Use various methods to organize, display, and interpret data: o Array, picture, diagram, graph/chart, physical manipulatives Mathematical Reasoning Skills Solve multiple- step problems Distinguish important information from irrelevant information Choose the best method to solve problems Recognize patterns Recognize function and purpose of math in the real world

4 Language Arts (Reading, Writing, English) Overview: Students will learn how to effectively use language to communicate ideas. Students will learn the rules of grammar through repetition and practice as well as through authentic opportunities in reading and writing. Students will understand concepts such as story structure, types of writing, and elements of a story and apply their knowledge in authentic reading, writing, and comprehension tasks. 9 Art Various teaching materials Overview: Students will learn how to express ideas and emotions through art. To effectively express those ideas students will learn the essential elements of art as well as the appropriate use of artistic media and tools. Students will learn about well- known artists in a historical context who used particular techniques and themes in their art. Students will understand that their God is a creative God. Since God made us in his image, our creativity is a reflection of the God who designed us and the universe.
