2 The secular papers announced some days ago the sudden death of Rev. Thomas King, of Halifax. He died of heart disease. Bro. King was a quiet, retiring man, rarely appearing in our denominational gatherings, and therefore not widely known. He was blessed with ample means, and loved to entertain his brethren. In his pastoral work he seems to been very effective and successful, having had large access1ons to the churches in his charge. Will some brother prepare us a fitting tribute of esteem to this beloved man of God? RELIGIOUS HERALD, March 1, 1883, page: /R27.

3 Bro. Meredith, As I have been under the necessity of writing to you, and before coming to a close, I will give you a brief account of the work of the Lord among us. Elder James King and T. King his son, have four churches each, the most of which have and are at this time receiving a blessing from the Lord. They are unusually engaged in the work of the ministry. We have had the additional labours of bro, McNabb, who, I think, has been instrumental in the hands of the Lord, in doing much good.---the brother Kings have been preaching at Bethel M. H., eleven days today, (Tuesday). They received on Saturday and Sunday morning, fifteen converts, and baptized them on Monday morning. Several professed since. I saw more people come forward on Sabbath, to be prayed for, than I ever saw before at one time. The christians appear generally to be much engaged, for the salvation of souls, and may the Lord continue to bless the labors of his people. Bro. King had a son and daughter, among those baptized. He and his family have been much blessed of the Lord. He has seven children living; and they are now all members of the church, except the youngest, which has not arrived to middle age. The bro. 4 MRS. SARAH ANN MARGARET KING of Halifax County, Va., the wife of Rev. Thomas King, died the 10th day of November 1851, aged 27 years, leaving four children, a disconsolate husband, and a large number of friends to mourn their loss. not as those who have no ho8e. But we sorrow Mrs. King was a faithful and devoted member of the Baptist church for 11 years. She lived the Christian at home. It was there that her Christianity shone forth with brilliancy. Many in this day of isms, whose religion sticks not quite so fast with them at home, will when they go to church, or during the revival, speak out for God; but follow them to their homes, and to their daily avocation, and you will there scarcely see any religion. for God. But little is said and done If their light shines, it glimmers like the ignis fatuus that only shines for a moment, and then vanishes into obscure darknes~. The bright mantle of religion is not worn by them every day; it is only at particular times that they wear it. All they do is to be seen of men. But such was not the conduct of this amiable lady. She possessed as small a portion of hypocrisy, as any person we have known. Her piety was of a high order, and deeply seated in affections. He~ce her kind and affable manners, her sweet and unruffled temper, and her god like disposition. inflated with wrath? Was she ever The writer of these lines has been intimately acquainted with her for a number of years, and can say without the fear of contradiction, that she possessed more self control over her passion than any person he ever knew. In this respect she resembled the smooth, expansive lake, whose waters are calm and unruffled by the wind, and reflects the radiance of heaven. She was indeed a wife---c mother---and a mistress of the first order; and we presume surpassed by none and equalled by very few. But she is gone from our sight, and we believe she is gone to rest. How short the journey from the cradle to the tomb! fragile and fleeting is the glimmering spark of life. How The subject of this obituary was superintending her business the day before she died; and on the next succeeding day after that, between 3 and 4 o'clock P.M., she was cold in death. Oh death! death!

5 MRS. SARAH ANN MARGARET KING--2 thou dost delight to shoot thy dark, barbed shaft at a shining mark, and to clip the tenderest ties that ever twined around the heart of man. And before long, both reader and writer must follow those who were dear to me, down to the cold grave. The next moment we may be in eternity. Oh, what a solemn reflection! We conclude with one request, that is, every good person who shall read this brief sketch of this excellent lady, will offer up one prayer for her motherless children. COM.
