2 Understanding Millennials Typically struggle with Identity and are transient; Grew up without defined Religious practices & in a fluid family structure; Mindset is based on intuition & experience before theory; Can spot a fake a mile away;

3 Who are the Millennials? Age gap is between 18 years and 34 years old. There are two groups of Millennials: Leading group ages 26 31; Trailing group ages 14 25; Group differences appear to be how they have matured with their life experiences.

4 Understanding Millennials Belonging happens first then conforming behaviors before changing beliefs; Mindset is based on intuition & experience before theory; Millennials are Philanthropic in many different ways;

5 Understanding Millennials Traditional Membership models are meaningless to them; Long for authentic leadership that welcomes their ideas & contributions; Desire Mentorship and interaction with the older generations;

6 Some Data on Millennials who say Church is not Important 39% say they can find God elsewhere; 35% say church is not personally relevant to them; 31% say church is boring; 20% say God is missing from church; 8% say church is out of date;

7 Other comments about Millennials who say Church is not Important Generally they mistrust institutions; They believe that Faith is not compatible with Science; They believe that church is morally rigid & too political; There is a problem of evil in the world;

9 ATTRACTING MILLENNIALS. Connections to causes and people that they care about; A welcoming Community that welcomes & values them as they are and their ideas; Mixing in with Leaders and members that are living authentic lives.

11 ENGAGING MILLENIALS. Opportunities to contribute to the community in meaningful ways; A Spiritual message that is relevant to their lives; Intergenerational & authentic relationships with those willing to mentor & discipline them.

13 SUSTAINING MILLENIALS. Giving a sense of involvement, support & affirmation though tangible and faith based practices; Activities & community engagement appropriate for their life stage; Deepening of their Faith in the context of community through relationships, small groups & discipline.

15 WHY THESE ARE IMPORTANT

16 WHY THESE ARE IMPORTANT Young adults who continue involvement with the church beyond their teens are twice as likely as those that don t have a personal relationship with an older adult in their faith community (60% vs 31%); Young adults are as likely to have an older mentor other than their pastor or youth minister (28% vs 11%); 7 out of 10 millennials who have dropped out of church did not have a close relationship with an older adult.

Some Family Fraternal Benefits KC s pay $1,500 for child who dies before age of 61 days; KC s pay $750 for a child that is still born 20 weeks after conception; KC s guarantee issue insurance up to $5,000 under age 18; Orphan Benefits - Monthly Allotment for Orphans of eligible families; up to $7,000College Scholarships available; Accidental Death coverage; Family eligible for other benefits, scholarships, etc;

24 There are at least 3 Things that Councils should think about in growing Membership especially with Young Men and Young Fathers.

25 Soft entry Points of Invitation are critical; Personal initiation into a project for getting the experience & ministry of the KC s - a must (i.e., project, social event or prayer); 1. Wait-Wait-Wait on the F100 until after the 2nd or 3rd attending event; Soft encounters build trust & help establish relationships while building deeper conversion;

26 2. Go Narrow & Deep not Wide and Shallow meaning general announcements, group invitations or ads do not attract or work; Narrow & Deep means focus on 1 or 2 Individuals to speak to, or evangelize with; Once they see the value, they will become your best evangelizers/recruiters; Outsiders observing the change with these 1 or 2 individuals will be attracted to this same benefit;

27 Be visible & share the work that you do & the council does!; Do not be parochial in sharing what the KC s do consider District, State & International accomplishments; 3. Be an example of a Witness to Christ; Be Authentic & Be welcoming; Share the works that you do with others; Be visible in all that you do;
