1 Title: God the Son: Multiplication Movement Part 1 Scripture: John 4:1-19 Date: 5/1/2016 Bible Version: NKJV BOTTOM LINE: You can t reach the lost unless you have a heart for the lost. Vs.1-Vs.2 When the Lord knew- Jesus knew that there would be a confrontation with the Pharisees if He stayed in Judea. Vs. 3-Vs. 4 He needed to go through Samaria- Samaria was the quickest route between Jerusalem to Galilee. Never miss an opportunity for ministry, even if it means things may be more difficult or uncomfortable. Vs. 5-Vs. 6 Being wearied- When you read the scriptures, never forget that Jesus is 100% God, and 100% man. As a man, He submitted to our human limitations. In this case He was tired. Sixth hour- Noon time, the heat of the day. Vs. 7-Vs.8 Woman of Samaria came to draw water- Usually women came in groups, and would come early in the day/morning. She came at the noon hour. Disciples had gone- As the disciples continued into town to

2 purchase food, they more than likely would have passed this woman as she was coming to the well. Vs. 9 Never forget that Jesus is our example on how to reach the unreached. Man made rules or customs should never stop us from reaching out to others. Vs. 10 You would have asked-jesus points to the fact that He has spiritual importance. Given you living water- The result of her asking was the gift of living water. Vs. 11 Don t limit a move of God in your life to what you can only see. Nothing, material in nature, can ever satisfy the thirst of the soul.-jon Courson Vs. 12-Vs. 13 Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again-jesus was using the water as an analogy of not only the woman's spiritual thirst, but everyone else who came to that well. Vs. 14 Will never thirst again-the drink that Jesus gives is everlasting. Fountain of water-this water does more than quench a thirst, it creates something within us.

3 Vs. 15 Give me this water-from an eternal perspective the way of Christ is far more desirable. Vs. 16 Go call your husband-from a cultural perspective, her husband should have been there (since she was talking with another man). Vs. 17-Vs. 18 Christ has different doors for entering into different people s souls. Into some, he enters by the understanding; into many, by the affections. To some, he comes by the way of fear; to another, by that of hope; and to this woman he came by way of her conscience. (Spurgeon) There can be no conversion unless there is conviction.-jon Courson Vs. 19 It would have been better if she had perceived that she was a sinner. (Spurgeon) John 3 Talks to a religious man. Meets in the cool of night. Nicodemus initiates the conversation. John 4 Talks to an immoral woman. Meets in the heat of the day. Jesus initiates the conversation.

4 The Holy Spirit can reach us in different ways, but the message is the same, we need a savior.

Anytime you read God s word you have to put things into perspective. You also have to realize that the terms, not words, have meanings. As a group re-read John 4:1-19 Try a the Amplified Version and compare that to the NJKV, NIV, ESV, or NASB. Pick a few words and have a group member look that word up on blueletterbible.com or with their app. DISCUSS. 1. Where there any words or a particular phrase that jumped out to you? 2. Ponder what this woman may have felt as she discovered she was talking to Jesus and not some man? Who do you think she felt as Jesus stated she would never thirst again? 3. What are some things we thirst for in our society today, and how can this hinder our relationship with Jesus? 4. Jon Courson was quoted as saying there is no conversion without conviction.
