He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. Mark 16:6 (NRSV) The verse is from the Gospel that will be read on Easter Sunday. It was spoken to Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome; people who are grieving, in pain or hurt, worried, confused, hopeless, depressed. How do you think it made them feel? The verse is spoken to you and me; people who are grieving, in pain or hurt, worried, confused, hopeless, depressed. How does it make you feel? On Sunday, April 5th, we are going to be celebrating Easter. We will gather around the Word and Sacrament. We will join others who are at worship with us, who are at worship at other places or who are surrounding the throne of God! We will gather together to praise God who defeated sin and death. We will gather together to praise God and thank God for giving us eternal life. We will gather together with all of our emotions and feelings, our needs and wants, and hand them over to the one who has taken care, is taking care and will take care. Everyday we may be going to a tomb full of grief and despair. Everyday we may be going to a tomb wondering how things could have happened the way they have. Everyday we may be going to a tomb to weep. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. Mark 16:6 (NRSV) Worship Services will begin at 9:00 am at Salemsborg and at 11:00 am at Falun. At both congregations, we will gather in silence for the dressing of the altar, symbolizing Christ rising from the dead, the lighting of the candles and the lights being turned on. We will also celebrate the Eucharist. We hope you can join us to praise, worship and celebrate! Holy Week Schedule for Falun/Salemsborg Lutheran Parish Maundy Thursday: 6:30pm-Potluck Supper; Following the meal we will have worship with Confession/Absolution and Holy Communion Good Friday: All are invited to attend the TACOL service and/or St. Matthew s Passion at Bethany College. Easter Sunday: Salemsborg Worship begins at 9:00am Falun Worship begins at 11:00am There will be the dressing of the altar and and the celebration of Holy Communion at both congregations (There will be no Sunday School or Coffee Time at Salemsborg) Easter Lilies for Easter It would be great to have the chancels of both churches decorated with Easter Lilies for Easter. If you would like to purchase a lily and bring it to either church by Saturday, April 4th, that would be great. If you would like to dedicate the lily in memory or in celebration of someone, just write it down and get the information to Donna. A listing will be placed in the bulletin on Easter Sunday. 4 Parish Women s News Women of Salemsborg Minutes from 19th, 2015 Business Meeting There was no formal meeting due to the absence of our Chairman, Dianna Fairbanks. Pat Anderson announced her request to be replaced as Recording Secretary due to health problems. The membership should be considering someone to take her place. Ramona Tjaden, Treasurer reported a balance on hand of $5, We have not received a bill from Scott's yet for groceries, but a bill came for Christmas plants for $ Deposited was $500 for our help at Cecil Peterson's funeral lunch. Melanie Ryding presented information on the upcoming Cluster Meeting April 11, It will be held at Elim Lutheran Church of Marquette. Ramona made copies of a brochure sent to us concerning this meeting. Announcements included some liners being missed to the roasters in the kitchen. The last quilting day will include the mending of our flags. Ramona will check on them for us. Hostess, Co-Hostess & Lesson is Nita Kay Carlson Falun Lutheran Women The Falun Senior Citizens will meet on Tuesday, April 14th at 1:00pm at the church. Smoky Valley Cluster The Smoky Valley Cluster Gathering will be held April 11th at Elim Lutheran Church in Marquette, KS. Registration and coffee begins at 8:30am. The fee is $5.00 which includes lunch. The deadline for information needed in the May 2015 Newsletter is Monday, April 20th Change in Worship Palm Sunday We will not be having a joint parish worship service on Palm/Passion Sunday, the last Sunday in March. There will be a worship service at both congregations Salemsborg 9:am, Falun 11am We will have our monthly UYG meeting at Falun Lutheran around noon on Sunday, Mar. 29th. (NOTICE PLACE and TIME CHANGE) Salemsborg Cemetery Association Pancake Brunch When: Sunday April 19, 10:30-12:30 Where: Salemsborg Fellowship Hall Menu: pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, coffee and drink There will be a free-will donation for brunch and it is a time to bring your yearly donation for helping maintain the graves of family and friends at the Salemsborg and Smolan cemeteries. Any checks should be made out to: Salemsborg Cemetery Association. Come enjoy pancakes and help us keep our cemeteries looking nice! Affirmation of Baptism Sunday Confirmation day, Affirmation of Baptism, will be Sun, Apr 26th at both congregations. New Member at Salemsborg We welcome new member Kendall Banning to our congregation! Kendall joined us on Sunday, March 1, We look forward to worshipping with you and spreading the Good News of Jesus! Help Set Up for Synod Assembly The Synod can save a load of money if we can source volunteers to do some of the work, e.g. setting up the rented tables and chairs in Stroble/Gibson. We are asked to provide 4-5 people from each congregation to help with this task. The more volunteers, the faster the work. Probably will take around an hour. Weekly Communion It was voted at both annual meetings last week to offer the Eucharist every week. It is a gift of grace so remember that we partake not because we have to but because we want to partake. If you do not want to partake, that is just fine. All who believe in the presence of Christ for the forgiveness of sin are welcome at the Lord s Table. Thanks to everyone who does work behind the scenes at this Parish, your stewardship is appreciated!

5 5th Annual Redeemer Concert Series Six members of the Kansas Bluegrass Association Treblemakers will perform Gospel and Traditional Bluegrass music at the concert. The band has been performing around the region for many years. Their new CD Here Comes Trouble! will be available for sale at the concert. All proceeds from the DVD sales go toward supporting the band s trip to Raleigh, North Carolina, for the International Bluegrass Music Association s annual convention in Oct. Current members are Dawson Tarrant (17, Conway Springs), Wayne and Mason Ruble (14 & 11, Minneapolis), Caitlin and Alyssa Carlson (17 & 15, Falun and members of Falun Lutheran), and Jacob Matz (14, Oxford). Directing this group of gifted young musicians is husband/wife team Jimmy & Karla Campbell of Wichita. The event will be held on Sun, April 19th at 4:00pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 743 Magnolia Rd, Salina, KS (across of South High School). A freewill offering to benefit Camp Tomah Shinga MATCHED by Thrivent Financial Wellness Totes The Wellness tote Project was started in Nov to help provide totes filled with items of hope, inspiration and encouragement to men and women undergoing cancer treatments. Wellness totes generally consist of a blanket, fuzzy socks, journal, water, lotion, lip balm, hard candy, tooth brush, hand sanitizer, crossword puzzles, homemade cards of encouragement, etc. The Wellness Tote project relies solely on donations, either monetary or donation of items to include in the totes. If you crochet or knit, please consider making hats or lap blankets to include in the totes. Please visit with Amanda Otto if interested in donating in any way. Call or wellnesstote@gmail.com. You can also check out these websites: Please let Pastor Ethan know if you need him to visit, bring Holy Communion, make a hospital visit, etc. He would appreciate your help because there are a lot of members in this parish and he may not realize the need. Pastor Ethan doesn t want to fall short of the duties you have called him here to do. Your help is appreciated! Jelly is needed for the month of April, however, any item you wish to donate will be greatly appreciated. Paper products, flour and small clean containers are always needed. A box is located next to the front door of the church for your convenience. Please contact Pastor Ethan or Donna Swanson if there are names that can be removed from our prayer list. Contact them as well if you would like to add someone We remember in prayer those who have been brought to our attention: Logan Peterson, 3 yrs old, stage 3 Burkitt s Lymphoma, undergoing chemo in Kansas City; Shy ane, friend of the Salzman s, jaw tumor surgically removed; Tammy Thaxton, teacher at SES, healing from cancer surgery; Marcus Petty, Lisa Newman s brother, apartment fire destroyed everything; CPT Eric Geiger, son of John & Barb Geiger, deployed to Africa on March 8th; Joyce Goates, LeRoy & Don s niece, cancer; we also pray for all members of the armed services and the police officers around the world and Christians who are facing persecution; All our friends at Bethany Home and the cottages as well as those living at Riverview in Marquette. We pray for peace, healing, strength and courage, that all will feel God's loving hands. We also pray for many unspoken requests. If we have missed anyone who should have been listed, please let us know. At the beginning of each month, the prayer list will be changed. If you have someone that you would like to place on the list, please let Donna or Pastor know. We are doing this to make sure all the needs listed are current. Some needs are continuous or immediately pressing and we do not want to miss the opportunity to pray for God s help for all in need.
