1 St Catherine of Siena T: E: NEWSLETTER W: Term 1, Week 9 March 31st 2017 Reflection A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Ephesians. You were darkness once, but now you are light in the Lord; be like children of light, for the effects of the light are seen in complete goodness and right living and truth. Try to discover what the Lord wants of you, having nothing to do with the futile works of darkness but exposing them by contrast. The things which are done in secret are things that people are ashamed even to speak of; but anything exposed by the light will be illuminated and anything illuminated turns into light. That is why it is said: Wake up from your sleep, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. The Word of the Lord. Dear Families, Holy Week is the final week in our journey through Lent and this year will be the last week of the holidays. Holy Week is especially significant and sacred as it recalls the last week of Jesus life in preparation for his death and resurrection. During Holy Week we have the opportunity to reflect on the events leading up to the death and resurrection of Jesus. His entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. The Washing of the Disciples Feet, the Last Supper, Praying in the Garden and Jesus Arrest on Holy Thursday, The Crucifixion of Good Friday and Jesus Resurrection on Easter Sunday. Through these events we see the humanity of Jesus. Thank you to Mrs Iacovino, staff and students who have prepared our Lenten prayer services to assist us in our reflections and preparation for Easter. Today our Year 5 & 6 students led us in the Stations of the Cross. Their representation of these events was prayerful and reverent and highlighted both the significance and poignancy of Holy Week. Thanks to Ms Russell, Mrs Coombes and our Yr 5 & 6 students for all of your efforts in preparing and presenting the Stations of the Cross. When we come back in Term 2 we will celebrate Easter and the Risen Christ with a whole school liturgy on Tuesday 18th April at 2:00pm in the church. Everyone is most welcome to join us for this liturgy. The Parish of Melton Easter Timetable is included in this newsletter, this lists the days and times for all liturgies throughout Holy Week. This week our Year 3 students have celebrated the Sacrament of Penance and made their First Reconciliation. This is one of the Sacraments of Initiation and is an important time for the children. Reconciliation gives us a chance to acknowledge our choices which may not have been our best in the sure knowledge that we are always forgiven. God s mercy and compassion for us, and our failings, is infinite, we can be sure that our sins have been forgiven and that we are right with God. Thank you to Ms Terrill, Mrs Downey, Mrs Morrison and Mrs Iacovino for preparing the children to receive this Sacrament, and well done to all of the children for their prayerful and reverent participation on the night. Already we are at the end of Term 1, the time has gone so quickly. Thank you to everyone for your support throughout this term. Best wishes to you all for a safe and happy holiday and Easter. I look forward to continuing to work with you all next term. Best Wishes for the Easter season Carmel Marantelli PRINCIPAL SCHOOL FEES Term 1 fees are now well overdue, families who have not paid this should do so early in Term 2. Please make sure that your account is up to date at all times. Families who have paid their school fees in full by the end of Term 3 will go into a draw to receive 1 term of fees ($400) paid back to you. Families who are on a direct debit payment and have this up to date by the end of Term 3 will also be eligible to go into the draw.

Easter Parade Our Easter Bonnet Parade was a riot of colour and fun; thank you to everyone who entered into the spirit of this and assisted with making Easter bonnets for the children to wear great fun was had by all.
3 A very big thank you to all the members of our Parents and Friends Committee for organising our Easter raffle and Easter bonnet parade. Your hard work and dedication is very much appreciated and the students had a wonderful time creating their Easter bonnets and participating in the parade. New members are always welcome to join the Parents and Friends Committee. If your are interested in joining or volunteering some time with the P & F please leave your details at the school office
4 It has been wonderful to see children receiving raffle tickets for being bucket fillers this week. Staff and students have been giving raffle tickets out to lots of students who have been bucket fillers. As I mentioned last week this book encourages positive behaviour by using the concept of an invisible bucket to show children how easy and rewarding it is to express kindness, appreciation and love by filling buckets. It helps children to understand bucket dipping is a negative behaviour, not a permanent label. It also builds on the concept that it is possible to fill or dip into our own buckets. Here are some ideas of how you can be a Bucket Filling Family I would like to thank staff and students for their participation and commitment to Social and Emotional Learning sessions this term. I would also like to thank parents for the great job you are doing to support your children to ensure we can provide a safe and happy environment for everyone to attend.
