1 Prayer Of Agreement MEMORY VERSE: TAKE HOME POINT: Matthew 18:19,...if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by My Father in Heaven. (NIV) The prayer of agreement increases our prayer power. TO THE TEACHER: There are three points to the prayer of agreement: 1. It will increase your prayer power. 2. It will only work if everyone is in agreement. 3. You have to agree and ask. The prayer of agreement will increase your prayer power. If you are facing a big job like cleaning your garage, it goes faster when somebody helps you. Not just because there are more people, but there is something empowering about working together on a big job. Working by yourself can be lonely. This prayer only works if everyone is in agreement. Have you ever had somebody ask you to pray with them and you had this thought, I m not sure that God will do that for you? In that situation it would be better not to pray with them. Even Jesus ministry was impacted by other people s thoughts and unbelief. The Bible says in Mark, chapter 6, that when He went to His hometown, He could do no mighty works because of their unbelief. The prayer of agreement only works if both people are convinced of God s will and pulling the same direction. In other words they need to be in agreement. To pray this prayer you have to agree and ask. Many times you will hear people say, I agree with you. That is good, but you are only half way there. Once you find somebody who will agree with you, then you need to pray and ask God together. LESSON 7 PAGE 1

When we pray for something really big, it helps to pray the prayer of agreement, so that s why I asked my good friend, Dr. Rubenstein, to come and pray with us today. (Not Too Bright enters.) Not Too Bright? What are you doing here? Dr. Rubenstein couldn t make it, so I m here instead. Okay, well let s get to it. Dear God, we pray on behalf of our nation. We pray that our leaders will have wisdom They don t have wisdom. They re really dumb. Not Too Bright, you re not helping. Dear God, we thank you for the President and ask that you would give him strength as he leads this great nation. The Presidents a dumb doodie head! Please, Not Too Bright, we re praying the prayer of agreement and you re just interrupting and being negative. It s not my fault your prayers stink and they won t get answered. Why don t you think prayer works? Cause I m Not Too Bright! Well, prayer does work and there is great power when we agree in prayer. I won t agree in prayer. There must be something we can agree in prayer about. Let s pray that the sky falls down. We need to pray for good things, not bad things. God can t honor it when we pray that bad things will happen. That s why it s so important to agree in prayer for good things. I won t do it. I refuse. I ll only agree to pray if we pray that everyone stops going to school and just plays freeze tag all day long. We can t pray that. Well why not? Well, please just try not to interrupt while we re praying because the rest of us don t like problems. Dear Lord, we agree in prayer that this nation will be saved. We pray that your love will spread to every heart. (Not Too Bright makes obnoxious fart noises.) Okay, Not Too Bright, if you keep interrupting, I ll have to ask you to leave. Okay, go on. I won t interrupt. Kids, since Not Too Bright won t pray the prayer of agreement with me, will you? (Allow kids to respond) Dear God, we know that Your Word says that when one of us prays, it will put a thousand angels to flight, but two will put ten thousand to flight, so all of us here Except me! Except Not Too Bright, pray the prayer of agreement that our nation will prosper and know the love of God. (NIV) Take Home Point: What You Need: PREPARATION: We are stronger when we work together. Bundle of sticks Rope Gather 5-8 of the sticks together in a bundle tied with a rope, two if needed so they don t come apart. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: Make sure sticks are thin enough that they can be snapped in half, but strong enough when they are bundled together that they cannot be broken. Make sure the rope is tight enough that sticks won t come out. You may need two ropes to tie the bundle. Object Lesson Application: (Hold up bundle of sticks.) I have a bundle of sticks in my hand. Who thinks they can break this bundle of sticks? (Let some of the younger kids try to break the bundle in half.) (Now untie the bundle and break the sticks in half, one at a time, while you are talking.) By themselves, these sticks can be easily broken. When they were tied together, working together, they couldn t be broken. The same is true with prayer, especially if you are facing something that is really difficult. 9 Stick Together Object Lesson Continued Sometimes prayer is a private thing between you and God, but it can also be something that you do with your friends or family. Don t think that you have to do it all by yourself. If you are facing something big, find somebody who believes like you do and ask them to pray with you. LESSON 7 PAGE 9

10 Inter-active OBJECT lesson What you ll learn: What You Need: Instructions: Pull Together When you pray the prayer of agreement, everyone needs to be pulling together. Tug-of-war rope Select 4 older children of equal size and strength to have a tug-of-war. (You may want to do this ahead of time. What you want is to have a stalemate where nobody wins the tug-of-war.) Place two kids on each side and tell them to go. If they are of equal size, then neither side should win. Let them pull for a minute or two and then stop them. Spiritual Application: Wow! This tug-of-war game was a stalemate. Nobody won. How come Team #1 didn t win? Because Team #2 was pulling against them. What if I put all four of them on one team? (Now place all four on one side. Next have one of your teachers on the other side and start the tug-of-war again. The four older boys should be able to beat the one teacher.) Did you see that? When all four of the boys were pulling the same direction; they won. This is just like the prayer of agreement. When praying this prayer, you need to find somebody who will have faith and believe with you. Let s pretend that Johnny asks me to pray with him that God will heal him. If I have thoughts like, I m not sure that God can heal him are we in agreement? No. Johnny needs to find someone that believe s that God wants to heal him. LESSON 7 PAGE 10
