Chris "Wisdom cries out in the street, in the squares she raises her voice." (Proverbs 1:20) In the beautiful collection of wisdom sayings ascribed to the great King of Israel, Solomon, we find the personification of Wisdom as a woman crying out in the city to all who would pass by --- calling them to turn aside and to listen to her reproof, to listen to her counsel. But none would listen. They all passed by and ignored her cry. What is wisdom saying? What is she crying out about? How does one hear her? What are the consequences of ignoring her voice? And most of all, what on earth does Jesus have to do with all of this? I am very much looking
2 forward to our time together this Sunday as we get the opportunity to listen to the voice of Wisdom herself. Amen. This Week in the Liturgical Year (Year A, Revised Common Lectionary, Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost) Proverbs 1:20-33 Psalm 19 James 3:1-12 Mark 8:27-38 Collect of the Week O God, because without you we are not able to please you, mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. Along with Brian and the music team, we are going to be highlighting one new song each month in the TEN, and we'll provide a link for those who would like to listen to the song ahead of our Sunday services... From Fr. Chris: "For our first choice, we have selected 'FALL AFRESH' by Jeremy Riddle. In this song, we are invited to address ourselves to two different persons. The first is our 'soul', our self. We are calling ourselves to 'wake up', to stir ourselves out of our spiritual slumbers and arise. The song is an attempt to stimulate within our souls the hunger and thirst for righteousness that Jesus speaks about. As the Psalmist cried out so long ago, 'Awake my soul' (Psalm 57:8), we too are invited by this song to join the chorus singing to our own souls, rousing them from sleep, to feel their need again. But our souls are not the only ones that are addressed in this song. As the title so clearly states, this song is ultimately a call to the Spirit --- a cry for the Spirit's presence. It is a prayer for 'our daily bread', that bread (manna) which 'falls' from heaven. Remember our Lord's words, 'The Spirit gives life.' (John 6:63) And this Spirit, is none other than the Spirit of Jesus. May Jesus, by his Spirit, fall fresh on us. Peace."
5 Announcements Car Needed to Keep Job --- A friend of HTAC who is currently without transportation has a huge need for a functioning car to get to work. If you have an extra car they can borrow, a car to donate or know someone who could donate a car, please let Fr. Chris know ASAP. Bobbie's Notebook Missing --- Last Sunday, Bobbie Holsclaw Paradine accidentally left her 1-inch, clear plastic 3-ring binder at the ministry center. In it was all the info she had been gathering for updates to our church-wide directory. It has a purple sheet in the front. (It's possible it got picked up last night.) If anyone picked it up or knows where it is, please let Bobbie know ASAP! Message for Parents --- Joshua Chang, who leads the Korean congregation, is now meeting with his folks at 12:30 p.m. on Sundays in the fellowship hall and sanctuary. Over the last few weeks he and Susan from the PCOB and a few others have noticed some of our kids outside unsupervised, and playing, as children will do, a little loudly right outside the fellowship hall where they are trying to hold their service. If you could please address that topic with your kids that would be great! Fall Small Group Studies --- Our summer study small groups have now finished reading and discussing two books in David Benner's three-book spiritual journey series. Our next book study will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 19 (for some small groups) and Sunday, Sept. 23 (for others) with the third book of Benner's trilogy: "Desiring God's Will." Moving forward, the group that meets at the Dominguez home will be meeting on Sundays from 5-7 p.m., and will be eating dinner together, so bring a side dish to share if you're planning to attend. Upcoming Servers' Training --- There will be a special training time for all those interested in being an acolyte, chalice minister, prayer minister, and/or a lector, on Saturday, Sept. 22. from 9 a.m.-noon. If you have already participated in a training for one of these ministries you do not need to go through it again. However, if you would like to begin to minister in one of these ways, please click this link to send an RSVP to Marrton, as we are trying to get an idea of how many folks will be participating. If you have any questions, please contact Fr. Chris. Special Sunday Evening Service, Saturday, Sept The PCOB will be using the MC on the fifth Sunday of this month, Sept. 30, so we will once again hold a special Eucharistic service in the MC on Saturday
6 evening, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. There will be no Sunday service on the 30th. HTAC Directory Update --- We're working on an update to the HTAC directory, so if you have any new info or need to take a new pic or if you've never before been listed in the directory, Bobbie Paradine Holsclaw. Use Amazon Smile to Benefit HTAC --- Don't forget to use the HTAC Amazon Smile site if you're planning to make purchases on Amazon. Money is accruing so make sure to bookmark our link!
