President God our Father, your gift of water brings life and freshness to the earth; in baptism it is a sign of the washing away of our sins and the gift of life eternal. Sanctify this water, we pray. Renew the living spring of your life within us, that we may be free from sin and filled with your saving health; through Christ our Lord. Amen. GLORIA IN EXCELSIS During the singing of the Gloria the people are sprinkled as a reminder of their baptism into Christ which cleanses them from their sins Gloria in excelsis Deo, et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis. Laudamus te, benedicimus te, adoramus te, glorificamus te, gratias agimus tibi propter magnam gloriam tuam, Domine Deus, Rex coelestis, Deus Pater omnipotens. Domine Fili unigenite, Jesu Christe: Domine Deus, Agnus Dei, Filius Patris, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis. Qui sedes ad dexteram Patris, miserere nobis. Quoniam tu solus sanctus, tu solus Dominus, tu solus altissimus, Jesu Christe, cum Sancto Spiritu, in gloria Dei Patris. Amen. Glory be to God on high, and in earth peace, good will towards men. We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee, we glorify thee, we give thanks to thee for thy great glory. O Lord God, heavenly King, God the Father almighty. O Lord the onlybegotten Son, Jesu Christ, O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us; thou that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us; thou that sittest at the right hand of the Father, have mercy upon us. For thou only art Holy, thou only art the Lord, thou only O Christ with the Holy Ghost art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen. 4

THE COLLECT Let us pray. Almighty Father, who in your great mercy gladdened the disciples with the sight of the risen Lord: give us such knowledge of his presence with us, that we may be strengthened and sustained by his risen life and serve you continually in righteousness and truth; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. THE LITURGY OF THE WORD Please sit A reading from Acts of the Apostles. READING Acts Peter addressed the people, You Israelites, why do you wonder at this, or why do you stare at us, as though by our own power or piety we had made him walk? The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our ancestors has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and rejected in the presence of Pilate, though he had decided to release him. But you rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked to have a murderer given to you, and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses. And by faith in his name, his name itself has made this man strong, whom you see and know; and the faith that is through Jesus has given him this perfect health in the presence of all of you. And now, friends, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did also your rulers. In this way God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, that his Messiah would suffer. Repent therefore, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out. For the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. 5

Please stand HYMN Now the green blade riseth from the buried grain, Wheat that in dark earth many days has lain; Love lives again, that with the dead has been: Love is come again, Like wheat that springeth green. In the grave, they laid him, Love whom men had slain, Thinking that never he would wake again, Laid in the earth like grain that sleeps unseen: Love is come again, Like wheat that springeth green. Forth he came at Easter, like the risen grain, He that for three days in the grave had lain, Quick from the dead, my risen Lord is seen: Love is come again, Like wheat that springeth green. When our hearts are wintry, grieving, or in pain; Thy touch can call us back to life again, Fields of our hearts, that dead and bare have been: Love is come again, Like wheat that springeth green. Words: J.M.C. Crum Music: Noel Nouvelet NEH 115 Old French Melody 6

Please sit A reading from the first letter of John. SECOND READING 1 John See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God s children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. Everyone who commits sin is guilty of lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. You know that he was revealed to take away sins, and in him there is no sin. No one who abides in him sins; no one who sins has either seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. Everyone who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. For the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Please stand and face the deacon GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Choir All Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice says the Lord, and no-one shall take your joy from you Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. 7

The Lord be with you. And also with you. GOSPEL Luke 24.36b-48 Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke. Glory to you, O Lord. While the eleven and their companions were talking about what they had heard, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, Peace be with you. They were startled and terrified, and thought that they were seeing a ghost. He said to them, Why are you frightened, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet; see that it is I myself. Touch me and see; for a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have. And when he had said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. While in their joy they were disbelieving and still wondering, he said to them, Have you anything here to eat? They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate in their presence. Then he said to them, These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you - that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled. Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ. Choir All Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia. Please sit SERMON After the Sermon silence is kept 8

Let us confess our faith in God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 9 Please stand THE NICENE CREED For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

THE INTERCESSION President In the power of the Spirit and in union with Christ let us pray to the Father. Please sit or kneel These responses may be used Lord, in your mercy or Lord, hear us. hear our prayer. Lord, graciously hear us. Merciful Father, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. And at the end THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENT Please stand THE PEACE President The risen Christ came and stood among his disciples and said, Peace be with you. Then were they glad when they saw the Lord. Alleluia. The peace of the Lord be always with you and also with you. Let us offer one another a sign of peace. The peace is shared 10

THE PREPARATION OF THE TABLE OFFERTORY HYMN The altar is prepared and bread and wine are placed upon it. During this hymn an offering is received. If you pay tax in the UK, please place your offering in the envelope, remembering to include the details requested on the front of the envelope. Thank you 1 At the Lamb s high feast we sing Praise to our victorious King: Who hath washed us in the tide Flowing from his piercèd side; Praise we him whose love divine Gives the guests his blood for wine, Gives his body for the feast, Love the Victim, Love the Priest. 2 Where the Paschal blood is poured, Death s dark angel sheathes his sword; Israel s hosts triumphant go Through the wave that drowns the foe. Christ, the Lamb whose blood was shed, Paschal victim, Paschal bread! With sincerity and love Eat we Manna from above. 3 Mighty Victim from on high, Powers of hell beneath thee lie; Death is broken in the fight, Thou hast brought us life and light. Now thy banner thou dost wave, Conquering Satan and the grave, See the prince of darkness quelled; Heaven s bright gates are open held. 4 Paschal triumph, Paschal joy, Only sin can this destroy; From sin s death do thou set free, Souls re-born, dear Lord, in thee. Hymns of glory, songs of praise, Father, unto thee we raise. Risen Lord, all praise to thee, Ever with the Spirit be. Words: From a Latin Breviary hymn Tr Robert Campbell Music: Salzburg NEH 104 Melody from J. Hintze

The gifts of the congregation and Junior Church are received. The president takes the Bread and the Cup and praises God for his gifts Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation. In your loving care you spread before us the table of life and give us the cup of salvation to drink. Keep us always in the fold of our Saviour and our Shepherd, your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Blessed be God for ever. THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, always and everywhere to give you thanks, almighty and eternal Father, and in these days of Easter to celebrate with joyful hearts the memory of your wonderful works. For by the mystery of his passion Jesus Christ, your risen Son, has conquered the powers of death and hell and restored in men and women the image of your glory. He has placed them once more in paradise and opened to them the gate of life eternal. And so, in the joy of this Passover, earth and heaven resound with gladness, while angels and archangels and the powers of all creation sing for ever the hymn of your glory: 12

The choir sings Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus Dominus Deus Sabaoth. Pleni sunt coeli et terra gloria tua. Osanna in excelsis. Benedictus qui venit in nomine Domini. Osanna in excelsis. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, Hosanna in the highest. Please sit or kneel We praise and bless you, loving Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread and wine outpoured may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son. On the night before he died he had supper with his friends and, taking bread, he praised you. He broke the bread, gave it to them and said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. When supper was ended he took the cup of wine. Again he praised you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did, in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross. Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation, we proclaim his death and resurrection until he comes in glory. Great is the mystery of faith.

Lord of all life, help us to work together for that day when your kingdom comes and justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth. Look with favour on your people, gather us in your loving arms and bring us with all the saints to feast at your table in heaven. Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father, for ever and ever. Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia! 14 THE LORD S PRAYER President Rejoicing in God s new creation, let us pray with confidence. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD The president breaks the consecrated bread, saying Every time we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord s death until he comes. THE GIVING OF COMMUNION The president invites the people to receive the Holy Communion, saying

Communicant members of all Christian churches are welcome to receive Communion. All who are not communicants are invited to come forward for a blessing. Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis, Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis, Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi, dona nobis pacem. Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, grant us your peace. AGNUS DEI Jesu dulcis memoria dans vera cordis gaudia: sed super mel et omnia ejus dulcis præsentia. Jesus, the very thought of Thee With sweetness fills the breast! Yet sweeter far Thy face to see And in Thy Presence rest. MOTET Nil canitur suavius, nil auditur jucundius, nil cogitatur dulcius, quam Jesus Dei Filius. Jesu dulcedo cordium fons vivus lumen mentium, excedens omne gaudium, et omne desiderium. No voice can sing, no heart can frame, Nor can the memory find, A sweeter sound than Jesus Name, The Saviour of mankind. O Jesus sweetness to our hearts Thou living spring and minds light surpassing all our joys, and all desires. Words: Latin, Roman Breviary tr. Edward Caswall Music: Josef Rheinberger

Please stand President Let us pray. PRAYERS AFTER COMMUNION A moment of silence is kept Living God, your Son made himself known to his disciples in the breaking of bread: open the eyes of our faith, that we may see him in all his redeeming work; who is alive and reigns, now and for ever. Amen. Almighty God, we thank you for feeding us with the body and blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Through him we offer you our souls and bodies to be a living sacrifice. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. Amen. POST COMMUNION HYMN 1 If Christ had not been raised from death Our faith would be in vain, Our preaching but a waste of breath, Our sin and guilt remain. But now the Lord is risen indeed; He rules in earth and heaven: His Gospel meets a world of need - In Christ we are forgiven. 2 If Christ still lay within the tomb Then death would be the end, And we should face our final doom With neither guide nor friend. But now the Saviour is raised up, So when a Christian dies We mourn, yet look to God in hope - In Christ the saints arise! 16

3 If Christ had not been truly raised His Church would live a lie; His name should nevermore be praised, His words deserve to die. But now our great Redeemer lives; Through him we are restored; His word endures, his Church revives In Christ, our risen Lord. Words: SP 78 Christopher Idle b Music: Kingsfold NEH 376 Adapted from an English folk song by R. Vaughan Williams THE DISMISSAL President The God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the eternal covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well-pleasing in his sight; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always.
