4 4 For this session we will be reading The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd (author of The Secret Life of Bees). This is a historical novel which takes place in Charleston, SC in the early 1800s. "Inspired in part by the historical figure of abolitionist and suffragette Sarah Grimke, Kidd's novel is set in motion on Sarah's eleventh birthday, when she is given ownership of ten-year-old Handful. The Invention of Wings follows these two women over the next thirty-five years as both strive for lives of their own..." (Back cover) We will meet on the Mondays of June (5, 12, 19, 26) at 6:30 PM. More details on how much to read each week and where we will meet will be announced at a later date. Two volunteers are needed to host a session. If you are interested in attending this session, and if you would like to be on the list to order a book (cost - approximately $10.00), please contact Mickie Noel at (859) or (859) COMMUNION TO HOME-BOUND Every week our deacon and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, along with other parish volunteers, bring the Holy Eucharist to those who are not able to attend Mass. 5 5 PASTOR S POST by Celebrating Our Future! We rejoice over our First Communion candidates who receive the Body and Blood of Christ for the first time at our 11:00 AM bilingual Sunday Mass. It will also be their honor to crown Mary Queen of the May with all of us in our short May Procession immediately following the 11:00 AM Mass. We are proud of all of our young people, and we thank God for the festive spring season in which we can celebrate them in these wonderful ways. They are a source of great delight and hope in our lives for both the present and the future of the Church and of our parish. All of us, as the Church, are very grateful to their parents for forming their children in the practice of the faith, what the Church calls handing down the Tradition of the faith. Congratulations to them, as well! Congratulations and blessings to them all! Father Al HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION BREAKFAST! May 21-9:30 AM Following the breakfast the graduates are invited to attend 11:00 Mass as a group. High School graduates, their families, and the high school formation class are invited to attend the breakfast. All nongraduating high school students are asked to arrive at 8:30 that morning to help prepare for the breakfast. Parents of non-graduating students are asked to help with food. Please watch Youth Group FB page for details. SAINT ANDREW COLUMBARIUM A columbarium is the name of the structure that holds the cremated remains/ashes of a person. Our columbarium next to the bell tower is full with no room for practical expansion. The stakes next to the grotto indicate where 2 of the next four columbarium structures for the church will be built. That area will be developed into a court yard with privacy created through landscape plantings and shade trees. We plan to pour the first two pads this spring and complete one columbarium by the end of summer. A fairly accurate depiction of the columbarium project can be seen in the parish hall. Guidelines and pricing are being finalized so stay tuned for your opportunity to secure your final resting place.
