1 May 3, 2018 Sonar Weekly Update A Message from the Sisters: Always United with the Blessed Mother in Christ Dear Parents, We are so glad that our Middle School Students and Teachers had such wonderful experiences during their trips last week and are very thankful that all of our students are back safe and sound. With our student body reunited, it is now time to focus on the task at hand, helping the students finish their last month of school so they will be well prepared for the academic expectations of their next grade level. We thank you parents for your partnership and continued support. Calendar Highlights: Thursday, May 10th: Academy Arts/Café Night: 6:30pm: All are invited to celebrate the Arts at NDA as we combine Café Night and the Art Expose in the Dempsey Social Hall. If your child is interested in showcasing their talent in music, singing, dancing and dramatic performance, please contact Miss Deskin via sdeskin@ ndasd.org. Friday, May 11th Grandparent s Day/Art Expose: 8:15am-11:00am: We hope you have extended an invitation to all Grandparents and special family friends to attend this special day! If your son or daughter would like to participate please read the details below. Please will you help spread the word by forwarding to other families who attend the 9am Mass. Children and youth ages 5 and older, who arrive by 8:45am, are welcome to process in with the Celebrant. Please bring a flower for each child in the procession (a garden flower is perfect). Please meet at the back of the church (by front doors) if you wish to have your child in the procession.

Our Blessed Mother is the model of courage, humility, perseverance, and universal motherhood for all ages. The corona on is a way for us to express our reverence for Mary, the perfect follower of Christ. This ceremony also has a lesson to teach us about the Gospel. The greatest in the kingdom of heaven are those who are foremost in serving others. Please mark your calendar and plan on joining us for this prayerful experience. Mass Place St. Therese of Carmel Church Dress Code Full Dress Uniform Each child is asked to bring two, long stem flowers from your garden on Wednesday morning, May 16th to adorn the statue of Mary. If you would like to send in addi onal flowers that would be appreciated. There will be a table set up outside the teacher workroom for you to place your flowers as soon as your child arrives at school that morning. Thank you in advance for helping us to honor Mary. 6 Mrs. Sciocia s 4th Grade Celebrates Earth Day In celebration of Earth Day, Mrs. Scioscia s class created JunkBots! The challenge was to look around their homes and change typical trash into a robot. The students embraced this and built fabulous creations!

8 DOLPHINS DASH!!!! Last Saturday, April 28 at the Dick Wilkins Freshman/Sophomore Invitational Championships, Delaney Diltz and Nicole Hood (NDA Class of 2017), were two members of the Freshman 4 by 100 Relay team which not only took first place in the meet but also set a new record for the girls 4 by 100 Freshman at Cathedral Catholic High School! 9 NDA Spring Sport Report JV Boys Soccer The NDA JV(5/6) Boys Soccer team played their third North County Parochial League game on Monday at Pine Field against St. Pat s 6. The game was a defensive battle with NDA peppering the goal with multiple shots but coming away empty. The teams were tied at 0-0 at the half. NDA continued their outstanding play, but just could not find the net. St. Pat s was able to score late in the game. The final being a 1-0 victory for St. Pat s. NDA again had a very large crowd to support the boys. The team s record stands at Their next game is Monday (5/7) at 3:30 against Nativity at Nativity. Pee Wee Basketball The (3/4) NDA Boys basketball team secured their first win of the season behind the hot shooting of Alex Mendicino. Luca Zogbi and Lucas Lek contributed to the scoring as well, leading the Dolphins to a win over St. John of the Cross. Their next game is this Saturday (5/5) against St. Martin of Tours at 10:45am at Cathedral. The (3/4) NDA Girls won their first game last Saturday with a victory over St. James. The team played great with Sara Villarreal Damy and Makena Fatta scoring the bulk of the points. Simona Blasi also scored a basket and played some great defense. Lastly, special thanks to Natalia Fogliani, Daniela Bernitt, Sophia Nechita and Julia Noyes Lopez who volunteered to play for the other team that was short on players. Their next game is this Saturday (5/5) against All Hallows at 11:30am at Cathedral.

10 Please join us for Parents in PrayWhat is Parents in Prayer? We are school parents who meet weekly to pray for the needs of Notre Dame Academy. The purpose of Parents in Prayer is to provide an opportunity for parents to join together in praying for the students, staff, and families of our school. When do they meet? We meet each Monday at 8:05 a.m. in back of the Church sanctuary. Who is invited? All parents, grandparents, and parishioners are invited. How long does it take? It takes about a half an hour... but if you can only stay for a decade or two, that is great. Why should you come? Parents in Prayer gives you the chance to spend a short time meditating on the mysteries and praying for our loved ones. In our busy, hectic week, it is often difficult to find the time to slow down and pray. Prayer often ends up on the back burner but not because it isn t important to us. Parents in Prayer helps you to pencil in time on your calendar for prayer...each and every week. Why pray the Rosary? Most of us are familiar with the Rosary, and if we re not, it s easy to learn. There are sheets that list the prayers and the Mysteries of the Rosary to help us pray. Most importantly, we pray with Our Blessed Mother, asking her intercession and protection for us and those for whom we pray. What about babysitting? Children are always welcome! They will learn to pray as they watch us and quiet toys and books may be brought to keep them busy. Any more questions?
