32 Lenten Journal SATURDAY DAY 10 The purpose of Jesus life was to save us from our sins. He did this by dying for us on the Cross. By obeying the Father even when it was very, very hard, He showed us how to obey. By giving all He had for others, He showed us how to love. By rising from the dead, He showed us that heaven really exists, and that there is a new life that begins after death. He has opened heaven for us and wants us to follow Him there to be happy with Him forever. Jesus said to all, If any man would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me. (Luke 9:24) The cross He gives us is never as hard to carry as His was, and by accepting suffering gladly, we imitate Him in all things. He picked up His own Cross, carried it to Calvary, and gave His life to save us Jesus accepts His Cross from our sins. That is why for many centuries Christians have prayed The Way of the Cross, or The Stations of the Cross, as a special way to walk with Jesus during the last hours of His life. Blessed Pope John Paul II prayed the Stations of the Cross every Friday. During Lent, he prayed them every day. Every Catholic church has the Stations of the Cross somewhere, so that you and others can go from station to station to pray and think about what Jesus did for you.
