8 LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT, NOVEMBER 27 COLLECTION Housing Coalition of St. Cloud / Sharing & Caring Hands The Housing Coalition of the Saint Cloud Area offers short-term emergency shelter and transitional housing for needy individuals, families and single mothers in the Saint Cloud area. Sharing and Caring Hands is a day shelter in Minneapolis that seeks to serve as a bridge between existing services and the inner-city poor, providing a lunch line, medical clinic, and shower facilities, as well as counseling, legal advocacy, and friendship. 9 SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT, DECEMBER 4 COLLECTION Benedictine Volunteer Corps The Benedictine Volunteer Corps is a program for recent SJU graduates who wish to participate in the work and prayer of a Benedictine community. These volunteers spend nine months to a year serving in an apostolate of their host monastery while sharing in the prayer and daily life of the monastic community. Volunteers are currently serving in Newark, New Jersey; Tanzania, Africa; Guatemala, Israel, Chile and Rome. It seeks to empower, accompany, and act as advocates for and with Latino individuals and families and to be a prophetic witness to the Gospel call to service and justice. 10 FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT, DECEMBER 18 COLLECTION Retirement Fund for Religious Over the years Religious Sisters, Brothers and Priests educated millions, founded hospitals, and reinvested community earnings in their ministries. Aging members were cared for by new members. However, as membership began to decline, it became evident that elderly members would far outnumber young, wage-earning members. In gratitude for what religious had so selflessly given, the Retirement Fund for Religious has been established to help ensure that the health care needs of elderly religious women and men are met with dignity and respect.
