1 June 2017 Dear Fellow Lectors, Enclosed is our schedule for the summer. As you will see, it takes us through the 25th Sunday in Ordinary time, September 24. The Assumption falls on a Tuesday this year. We will be looking for Lectors on Monday, August 14 for the vigil Mass at 7:00 PM and Tuesday, August 15 at 7:00 PM. If you would like to volunteer to lector for the Assumption, please let Carol know. There are a few holy days throughout the year for which we need lectors at both the vigil Mass and the holy day. Please let Carol know if you would be willing to lector at an evening Mass. We would like to thank all of you who proclaimed so beautifully during Holy Week and Easter. Know that we appreciate all the work everyone does throughout the whole year. Some reminders: 1. Please be vigilant about getting a sub if you are unable to proclaim as assigned. Most of our missed assignments seem to occur during the summer. If you know you will be out of town, please get a sub. Once you have found a sub, let Carol know so she can send out a reminder. Let your partner know that you are getting a sub. A phone call is better than an that might be missed. 2. We ask that you get to church 20 minutes before Mass begins. You need to check to make sure the lectionary is set to the correct readings. Check to see if there is a deacon. If not, Lector 2 reads the prayers of the faithful from the ambo. 3. Despite the summer heat, appropriate dress is still required when we proclaim. Some lectors have commented to us about the number of times they proclaim. In the past, we scheduled lectors at all of the Masses. We changed that to scheduling you at the Mass of your preference. As a result, there are some Masses, especially 10:00 AM, which is the preference Mass. As a result, those lectors might have fewer assignments. Fewer people prefer 7:00 AM Mass so those lectors get more assignments. If anyone would like to change their preferences, please let Carol know. She works hard to try to meet everyone s request. When the Sacred Scriptures are read in the Church, God himself speaks to his people, and Christ, present in his own word, proclaims the Gospel. General Instruction of the Roman Missal, #29
