We would like to extend to you a warm welcome to The St. Clare Pastoral Center, located in Mount Vernon, Washington. We make every effort to offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere committed to inclusiveness, peace and justice, and the sanctity of all creation. We are part of the Ecumenical Catholic Communion (ECC), the largest independent catholic jurisdiction in the United States, and a member of the National Council of Churches. Our denomination traces its history through the European Old Catholic Churches who came together in opposition to the declaration of papal infallibility established by the First Vatican Council ( ). We offer valid sacraments that are open to all those seeking a faith community whose beliefs are grounded in the traditions of the early Christian church, while maintaining the basic integrity of the Catholic liturgy. The St. Clare Pastoral Center celebrates the Novus Ordo Mass, known as the Mass of Paul VI that was instituted in This Mass reflects the liturgical changes made after the Second Vatican Council ( ). Because of our concerns over its lack of inclusivity, the Pastoral Center has chosen not to adopt The Third Edition of the Roman Missal, introduced by the Roman Catholic Church on November 27, Our Pastoral Center is here for you, especially if you are seeking a spiritual home committed to the belief that God's love is unconditional and extends to all of us as God's sons and daughters. It would be a great blessing to have you join us as we grow our community together. Peace and Blessings, Rev. Liz Miller Rev. Jack R. Miller Pastors
HOSANNA! Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heavens! We use this shout during the Eucharistic prayer. We greet the coming of our Savior into the new Jerusalem, and we join his once-and-for-all Passover. This holy week we will ponder and worship the great works of the Lord on our behalf: his pass-over through death to new life and our nourishment in the Eucharist. Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus! 4 Meditation [Seated] Alleluia, Word of God (Farrell) Opening Hymn [Verses 1, 2 and 3 - Standing] Sign of the Cross / Blessing of the Palms Opening Prayer
This day is named after the Gospel readings that we will hear. The account of the entry into Jerusalem and the Palms the people waved is put against the account of the passion of Christ, his death for us told in excruciating detail. What are we to make of this contrast? How are we to apply this to our own lives? The reading from Isaiah with the responsorial psalm and the famous Philippians hymn that is our second reading interpret these Gospels for us. God sees us as all the actors in the passion. We are the ones who wave the palms, the ones who drive the nails and the spear into the body of Christ, we are Mary and Peter and the apostles; but above all we are to be Christ for others, we are to lay down our life for the love of neighbor. And because of this call to accept the life of Christ with all its joy and pain, the glory and the suffering, we can expect to share in the lifting up of the Philippians hymn, sharing in the Lordship of Christ to the glory of the Father forever. 6 The Liturgy of the Word [Seated] 1st Reading: Isaiah 50: 4-7 Lector: All: Responsorial: Psalm 24 Response: The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God Let the Lord enter; he is king of glory. 2nd Reading: Philippians 2: 6-11 Lector: All: The Word of the Lord Thanks be to God Acclamation: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ, king of endless glory! "I am the Light of the World. Everyone who follows me will have the light of life." Gospel: John 12: Presider: A reading from the Gospel of John. All: Glory to you O Lord....A Reflection by... Rev. Jack R. Miller Something Borrowed You are invited to share a short reflection if you desire.
Profession of Faith [Standing] We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, one in Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, by the power of the Holy Spirit, he was born of the Virgin Mary and became man. For our sake, he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered, died, and was buried. On the third day, he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen! General Intercessions Response: Lord, hear our prayer. Sign of Peace Presider: The Peace of the Lord be with you! All: And also with you!
Preparing the Altar (Meditation) He Came Riding on a Donkey (Common Cup) Liturgy of the Eucharist For the Bread: Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness, we have this bread to offer, which earth has given and human hands have made. It will become for us the bread of life. All: Blessed be God forever. For the Wine: Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness, we have this wine to offer, fruit of the vine and work of human hands. It will become our spiritual drink. All: Blessed be God forever. Prayer over the Gifts: Presider: Pray, my brothers and sisters, that our sacrifice may be acceptable to the God of all Creation. May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of God's name, for our good and the good of all the Church. Eucharistic Prayer: Presider: The Lord be with you. And also with you. Presider: Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Presider: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.
Acclamation: Holy, Holy, Holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna, hosanna in the highest. Eucharistic Prayer Bread: Cup: Take this, all of you, and eat it: this is my body which is given up for you. Do this in memory of me. (Vilatte Mass) Take this, all of you, and drink from it: this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven. And as often as you drink of this cup, do so in memory of me. (Vilatte Mass) Deacon: Let us proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ shall come again. The Great Amen Presider: And as we say together: Through him, with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, almighty Father, forever and ever. AMEN!
Lord s Prayer: Communion Rite: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Presider: Deliver us Lord, from every evil, and grant us peace in our day. In your mercy keep us free from sin and protect us in time of trial as we wait in joyful hope for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.
Communion Distribution: Presider: Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world. Happy are those who are called to the table of the Lord. Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but only say the word and I shall be healed. Communion Reception: Presider: The Body of Christ All: Amen! Presider: The Blood of Christ. All: Amen! "Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; For we partake of the one bread." (1 Corinthians 10: 17) Saint Clare Chapel welcomes all those who wish to receive Holy Communion. Everyone is Welcome at the Table of the Lord!
Communion Hymn [Verses 1 and 4 - Seated] Prayer after Communion Announcements
Prayer over the People Presider: The Lord be with you. All: And also with you! Presider: Let us bow our heads as we receive God's blessing: God of salvation, Let your Son's entrance into Jerusalem, be for us, our entrance into the heavenly Jerusalem, that we all will share in the covenant of new life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen! Final Blessing Presider: May Almighty God bless us all, the Father, the Son, + and the Holy Spirit. All: Amen! Deacon: All: Let us go in peace to love and serve the Lord! Thanks be to God!
