December 27, 2015 Holy Families So quickly after Christmas Day the Church celebrates the Feast of the Holiest of Families - Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Family life has never been as worry free as we might think. Our holiest of families shows this. Just think: there was no room in the inn, the couple had their child in the place where the animals were fed, there was the trip to Egypt because Herod had decreed all baby boys under two years of age should be killed, and then Jesus at the age of twelve remains in the Temple in Jerusalem really upsetting his parents! If the Holy Family is any model for us, we learn that family life certainly has its trying moments! Today is no different. Things happen: tragedies can occur, young people we know die in accidents, teens can sometimes be too independent, families go through divorces, tempers can flare, one member can be inconsiderate or downright mean to another member, divisions over wills and property, sudden arguments - all are part of family life. The Holiest of Families weathered all that happened to them. With prayer, faith, and trust our families can weather the challenges of life today. Let us pray for one another and for all the members of our families! Peace & Love,

THEODORE S Couples who are contemplating marriage in this coming year are asked to please contact Deacon Angelo as soon as possible to reserve the church before you sign a contract with a reception hall. Deacon Angelo can be reached at Many, many thanks to our choir, bell choir, children s choir and instrumentalists who gave us such beautiful music for our Christmas celebrations. The children s choir sang at the 3:30 Family Mass, some of the adult choir members and friends sang at our Christmas Eve 5:30 Mass, and the choir for 10:30 Christmas Eve Mass was made up of a few regular choir members, cantors and friends who love to sing for these special celebrations. We were also blessed to have wonderful instrumentalists, who added so much to our musical groups. May God bless you and may you have a blessed New Year. Thank you to all our faithful church cleaners and decorators. CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PARISH Did you know that you can make your contributions online through your bank? If you do online bill paying with your bank, add St. Theodore s Church as a payee. Use your envelope number as your account number and let them know how often to initiate a check. The bank will then send the check right to St. Theodore s and we will enter the contributions in our computer just as if you put your envelope in the collection basket. If you have any questions, please call Leigh Ann in the parish office. If you make your contributions in cash, please make sure to use your envelopes (or any envelope with your name and envelope number on it) so that we can track your contributions for you. Recently we have had some parishioners audited by the IRS and unfortunately they did not use envelopes and we were unable to give them a listing of their contributions. KIDS HELPING OTHERS... Share the Gift of Giving The students in the Faith Formation classes collected over 220 new hats, mittens and scarves for the Christmas gift baskets given out by our food cupboard. Mrs. Russell's 1st grade class collected the most from grades 1-5 and Mrs. Fallone's 7th grade collected the most from grades 6-8. Thank you for your support and sharing the true meaning of Christmas with others. Are you a parent of an infant or young child who struggles during mass to keep your little one quiet and leaves mass without knowing what was mentioned in the homily? Do you wish you could come to mass and reflect on the readings and receive the Eucharist without feeling like you just finished running a marathon? Are you an adult or teen who loves children? With the increase of young families in our parish, there seems to be a growing need for child care during the Sunday 9:00 a.m. liturgy. This would be for infants through 5 years of age. Children in grades 1 and up should be attending mass with their parents. In order for this ministry to happen, we would need enough adults and teens to volunteer on a rotating basis. Parents of the children using this service would also be expected to volunteer. Adults and teens 18 years and older would need to complete "Creating A Safe Environment". If you are interested in child care during Mass or if you are an adult or teen interested in volunteering, please contact Maureen Piehler at or mpiehler@dor.org. If we have enough families of young children interested and enough people to volunteer, we will begin offering child care as soon as possible!

3 Page Three St. Theodore s Church, Rochester, New York December 27, 2015 FOOD CUPBOARD NEWS St. Theodore s Food Cupboard provides assistance to many local people in need every week. We are always re -stocking our shelves with the food that is donated by parishioners each week. We encourage your weekly participation in this ongoing ministry by bringing the suggested food items to church and dropping them off at the table in the vestibule or in the parish center. In the New Year, 2016, please make a resolution to support our Food Cupboard by bringing in a non-perishable item each week. NEEDED ITEM OF THE WEEK: Tuna Helper HOSPITAL CALLS When you are hospitalized, it is the great desire of our priest and pastoral staff to visit with you when you are in any of our local hospitals. Be aware that due to privacy laws, we cannot access information about your hospitalization unless you indicate St. Theodore s as your faith community on your admissions forms. Better yet, have a family member call the parish office at with the dates of your hospitalization, which hospital you are at and a room num- PARISH OFFICE CLOSED The parish office will be closed Friday, January 1, for New Year s Day. Please remember St. Theodore's Church of Gates, NY in your will. On behalf of the parish staff, children and parents, we would like to thank Kathy Douglas for the AMAZ- ING job she did with the Children's Christmas Pageant this year. Along with writing the script, Kathy did everything from directing the children and teaching them the songs and dances to putting together the costumes and props. Thank you, also, to Judi O'Brien, Debbie Smardz, Kelly Menna and Alexa Manuse who helped Kathy. Everyone who attended the pageant was filled with the Christmas Spirit.
