2 Collect Almighty God, whose Son restored Mary Magdalene to health of mind and body and called her to be a witness to his resurrection: forgive our sins and heal us by your grace, that we may serve you in the power of his risen life: who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen. A reading from the Song of Solomon (3. 1-4) Upon my bed at night I sought him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but found him not; I called him, but he gave no answer I will rise now and go about the city, in the streets and in the squares; I will seek him whom my soul loves. I sought him, but found him not. The sentinels found me, as they went about in the city. Have you seen him whom my soul loves? Scarcely had I passed them, when I found him whom my soul loves. I held him, and would not let him go until I brought him into my mother s house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me. Psalm 42. (1-8) 1 As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and behold the face of God? 3 My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me continually, Where is your God? 4 These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I went with the throng, and led them in procession to the house of God, with glad shouts and songs of thanksgiving, a multitude keeping festival. 5 Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help and my God. 6 My soul is cast down within me; therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan and of Hermon, from Mount Mizar. 7 Deep calls to deep at the thunder of your cataracts; all your waves and your billows have gone over me. 8 By day the Lord commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life. A reading from St Paul s 2 nd Letter to the Corinthians ( ) For the love of Christ urges us on, because we are convinced that one has died for all; therefore all have died. And he died for all, so that those who live might live no longer for themselves, but for him who died and was raised for them. From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view, we know him no longer in that way. So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! A reading from the Gospel according to St John (20: 1, 2, 11-18) Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him. But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb; and she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. They said to her, Woman, why are you weeping? She said to them, They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him. When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for? Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus said to her, Mary! She turned and said to him in Hebrew, Rabbouni! (which means Teacher). Jesus said to her, Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God. Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, I have seen the Lord ; and she told them that he had said these things to her. Post Communion God of life and love, whose risen son called Mary Magdalene by name and sent her to tell of his resurrection to his apostles: in your mercy help us who have been united with him in this eucharist, to proclaim the good news that he is alive and reigns, now and forever. Amen.

3 Shared Sunday worship Next Sunday (July 29th) being the 5th Sunday in July, we will worship together with a special service in St Teilo s, Merthyr Mawr. A reminder that our 5th Sunday worship starts just a little later than normal (1100) and will be followed by a Bring n Share lunch so please bring a plate of food for sharing merthyr mawr, st teilo s church penyfai all saints church penyfai Laleston st david s church Licensing of the new Area Dean for Bridgend Rev d Ian Hodges, Vicar of Llanilid with Pencoed has been appointed as the new Area Dean for the Bridgend Deanery. Ian will be licensed this evening as part of an evening eucharist service starting at 6pm in St David s, Pencoed. All are welcome and we send Ian our very best wishes for his new appointment Please contact Anthony if you would like a name to be added to our Benefice-wide, prayer lists. 4 Afternoon Tea / Thought for the week Sunday Services for August 2018 Afternoon Tea in aid of Cancer Support This coming Thursday (26th July), Jenny Morgan will be hosting an afternoon tea in aid of cancer support. The tea will take place at Llewellyn House, Court Colman, Bridgend and starts at 2pm. 5 Upcoming Events / Meeting Bank Holiday Benefice BBQ & Boules afternoon A Benefice BBQ and Boules afternoon is being planned for August Bank Holiday afternoon Monday 27th August at the Blandy Hall/Gardening Club in Laleston. If you are interested in attending (or forming a Boules team) please speak to Jenny Morgan (All Saints), Jane Lewis or Liz Thomas (St David s) or Tom Green (St Teilo s) Pen-y-Fai Village Fun Day Pen-y-Fai s village fun day takes place on Saturday September 1st and contributions towards the bottle stall would be warmly welcomed. Any full bottles with a value of more than 1 would be gratefully received and further information about the bottle stall and other activities involving Benefice members are available from Delyth Parry Llangasty Drop-In Day The recent Llangasty drop-in day was so popular and well-received that another is now being arranged for Monday September 10 th. Llangasty is located on the shoes of Langorse Lake in the Brecon Beacons and the day-long trip allows people to saple the quietness and tranquility of Llangasty without having to engage in a full-on retreat. Anyone wishing to dip-their-toe-in-thewater or to try and repeat their recent lovely day out, should contact Jenny Morgan. Packed lunches will be required Altar Swap and Foodbank Sunday s / Congratulations Ministry Area News Altar Swap Sunday Our next Ministry Area Altar Swap Sunday is scheduled to take place on Sunday 9th September. This being a 2 nd Sunday in the month, it is also the day of our Monthly Benefice Eucharist and is due to take place at St Teilo s Church, Merthyr Mawr (starting at and followed by refreshments). Further details will follow about who will be leading worship and where Anthony will be headed that day. Foodbank Sunday s Following discussions at our recent round of Church Council / PCC meetings, it has been agreed that we will designate the second Sunday of each month (ie the day we come together for our Monthly Benefice Eucharist) as a Foodbank Sunday. As part of this we would like to encourage those who come to our 2 nd Sunday worship to bring contributions that we can pass on to the Bridgend Foodbank, and thus come together not just to worship, but also to make a difference in our local community. Thank you for any support you may give to this. Congratulations to Dan and Fran who were married in a wonderful service at St Teilo s Church, Merthyr Mawr last Sunday afternoon. Our thanks to them for bringing such a joyful occasion to St Teilo s and we wish them many years of happily married life together. We also than their very special friend Pastor Dave for helping to make the service so special and we look forward to seeing Fran and Dan again in the not-too-distant future.
