Even now the axe is lying at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. And the crowds asked him, What then should we do? He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing-fork is in his hand, to clear his threshingfloor and to gather the wheat into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire. Luke 3:18 (NRSV) RITUALS AND TRADITIONS The third candle on the Advent wreath is the candle of proclama&on and joy. Discuss or think about the joy that Jesus brings to the world. Read Isaiah 9:6-7 and a7er ligh&ng the first candle of expecta&on and hope, the second candle of prepara&on and peace, and the third candle of proclama&on and joy on your Advent wreath, say the following: Leader: In Zephaniah s song of joy he cries out, Rejoice and exult with all your heart! As we light the third candle, let us give thanks for the joy that Jesus brings. All: Thank you, Lord Jesus, for giving us joy. Fill our lives with joy this Advent. Amen. 9 Worship Assistant Opportunities O Antiphons There is still one opening for children interested in reading the O Antiphons and/or lighting the Advent candles. The date available is: Sunday, Dec. 23 at 8:15 service (reader& light candles) Christmas Eve We need children for the 7:00 1+ service to sing or play an instrument for the prelude. We need someone to play Joseph (Grade 5-8) at the 7:00 1+ service. We still need two Ushers for the 4:00 1+ and two for the 7:00 1+ service. If someone is not able to attend the program or if you want to enjoy it again later, Steve Cheramy is going to post a streaming tab on the website and you will be able to download your own copy of the program. Collections ending December 16 We are still collecting warm winter clothes for Kennedy Elementary School, baby items for St. Stephen's food pantry and items to fill flu care bags for Triangle Ministry. 11 Weekly Announcements December Social Ministry Collections Instant Pudding Boxes We need to collect 120 large boxes of instant pudding for the East Side Community Center at Truax Christmas food boxes. Collection ends Dec. 18. Please place the pudding in the box under the hat/mitten tree. Coordinator: Darilee Nelson, Mitten Tree Hats, Mittens, Scarves for men, women & children. These will be given to the Salvation Army. Collection ends Dec. 18. Coordinator: Darilee Nelson, Flower Chart for 2019 Is available on the Kiosk. Please sign up for the date(s) you would like to sponsor flowers for the Altar. Include your name and phone number. Cost is $35 for each date. We do not accept additional amounts for larger bouquets. You may pay for the flowers close to the time of your chosen date. One week prior, you will receive a call from the office for information you would like to have included in the bulletin, and for your choice of flowers. Christmas Luncheon Wednesday, Dec.19, Noon Note the date change! SAM will not meet the traditional last Wednesday of December as that is the day after Christmas. SAM will celebrate Christmas with our regular potluck on the 19th and the Middleton Jazz Band will perform a Christmas concert for us. Bring a dish to pass and your tableware. This is a great time to bring a friend as we celebrate the Christmas Season. 11 Prayer Shawl Ministry The next gathering of the Prayer Shawl group will be Monday, December 17 at 3:30 23 at the home of Marg Reek. Lenten Devotionals Seems odd to be thinking ahead to Lent, but it will be time to start writing the devotions before you know it! Holiday Family Pictures We continue to gather pictures for our On-line Member Directory. Christmas is a great time to take a family picture!
